Mad Rant: Clinton had the Devil in the Blue Dress, Bush gets the Woman in the Red Dress Pt. 2

When God gets Mad.

So global level disasters are down (global being determined by level of awareness not necessarily gravity; the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and its tsunami swarm, followed by hurricane Katrina), local disasters are on the rise. Which is truly more devastating? A huge number of casualties all at once, or steadily mounting death tolls trickling in over time?

Boat Carrying Haitians Capsizes on May 4th
The Stats: 25-30 foot sailboat, 150-160 Haitians aboard, 78 rescued, 36 dead (“some partially eaten by sharks”), 30-40 missing.
The Story: “Every year, Haitians by the hundreds set off in rickety boats hoping to escape poverty by sneaking into the U.S. The perils became gruesomely apparent Friday when a crowded boat capsized, flinging migrants into shark-infested waters. The Coast Guard said the migrant vessel had capsized while being towed by a Turks and Caicos police boat at 4:30 a.m., but local authorities denied that. Alternate ending: “As lightning crackled overhead, some passengers panicked, causing the boat to capsize. A Turks and Caicos boat attached a line to the [ already ] capsized vessel and began towing it to Providenciales.” Finger pointing and rebuttal? Already? Is that really necessary? Let’s focus: "I lost one of my two daughters that made the trip with me. I wanted to save her, but I could not because everyone was excited and was screaming."

So if that weren’t enough, No Survivors In Kenya Airways Jet That Crashed In Cameroon Carrying 114 on May, 5th. What? We didn’t reach the quota?

While promising to be a month of new birth and regeneration the month of May continues to take a heavy toll. More people I’ve know personally have died in this month than any other. Has anyone else noticed this trend?

Finally then, we have oddball murders. As if there were such a thing as a normal one.

May 4th, 2007: Wichita Sixth-Grader Admits To Stabbing Ducks (To Death) With Pencil Mental illness is suspected of course. (Desktop Hippie the prophetess should take cover immediately for calling this one.)
Same day, Vengeance is Mine sayeth the LORD: Tornado Flattens Greensburg “Deadly ‘Finger of God’ tornado misses target, strikes southwestern Kansas Friday night, destroying most of the town of Greensburg” by mistake. Twice. Eh, what’s a hundred miles? The Duck Killer Kid is somewhere in Kansas…

And back in my ‘hood?

Not to be outdone by the story from Batavia OH on March 19th, 2006: Boy Killed For Walking On Lawn “A man who neighbors say was devoted to his meticulously kept lawn is charged with [and just convicted] murder in the shooting of a 15-year-old boy who apparently walked across his yard,”

good old Detroit bring us these headlines:

April 24th 2007: Teen [17] Shot Dead on Detroit Front Lawn "Evidently he said, 'Stay off the grass, stay off the grass.’'”
May 6th 2007: Detroit Man Fatally Shot While Mowing Lawn Lawn rage is threatening to unseat road rage, not in numbers; just in severity.
