Had me a table, had me a chair
Saw me a devil sitting over there
Got me a lantern, got me gone
Gonna look for a good home

Just a little further along...
Just a little further along...

Got me the straight road, got me the bend
Got more money than I can spend
Silver of the starlight, Gold of the sun
Gonna take my riches to the counting house

Just a little further along...
Just a little further along...

Words On A Wing. Part Three:

When you are hugged by Malcolm Reynolds you really feel it. These were the times, the clashing of plates, the scrape of cutlery, the banging of cups, the sudden bursts of laughter – the hugging – that Kaylee sometimes hoped would never end.

As the captain gently disengaged himself and sat down, Kaylee studied the two new additions to Serenity’s family; the Boy – quiet in his oddly formal suit, muttering in chinese as he reached for all the food he could grab – and the Girl, Ryadni, smiling shyly from under her curls.
Her bracelets and rings made no sound, even as she demonstrated something by stretching and rolling her arms. How’d she do that? Kaylee wondered.
“Dancing. My lady is teaching me to dance”
Simon and Wash hanging on her every word.
Kaylee concentrated on eating for a moment then looked up as she heard the girl say -
“So I am here. It’s a test. My first time... away from home. With strangers”.
There was chorus of sympathetic murmers from around the table.
Ryadni gestured to her side. To the boy. Her words sounded well remembered – a lesson learnt perhaps from an early age.
“Can I be a fitting companion to him?
“’Fitting?” Jayne’s voice was amused. “Now what does that mean”
“And provide for his needs – provide distraction – in a pleasing manner.”
Jayne leered openly. “Well now, there’s only one distraction all men find pleasing – you old enough for that yet?”
He chuckled – then stopped.

“Seems to me I minded you about your manners at table once before.” Mal’s voice was quiet. Quiet enough to cut off the sounds from the table completely.
