The truth behind Serenity 2's fate

WARNING: the geeky info below came off the top of my head, and I'm not afraid to admit it!

Okay, there is a "this just in" kind of article from Ain't It Cool News about Alan's recent quote on Serenity 2, http://www.aintitcool.com/node/34342. It's not a happy article, just very truthsome.

Immediately, I shared it with a fellow browncoat in an e-mail, and I couldn't help but compare it to "Star Trek: TOS". That show started in 1966 and ran for 3 seasons before it was cancelled by CBS (FOX didn't have a TV network then, so someone had to be the bad guy). Since then, there have been 9 movies plus #10 currently in pre-production (when will they start filming it?!?!) and 4 spin-off series. The truth is that Serenity 2 is going to happen eventually fallowed by more films and possibly another series (or more!). It is just inevitable. I feel it in my bones. There is so much story to be told about the 'verse that is worth telling, even away from the BDHs we already know and love. IT WILL HAPPEN SOME DAY!

Angel spun out of Buffy. Maybe we will see Monty's crew flying the verse, or Yo-Saff-Bridge can marry Badger and rip off everyone around them.

Let's also bear in mind that the first Star Trek movie was a box-office flop. I dare not say the same for our beloved BDM, but I damn well will say that if Trek went on to become such a huge movie/spin-off franchise, why can't we someday claim the same fame?

When I said "spin-off", I was thinking of something like Bellflower (http://bellflower.sigil777.com/index.php). Of course, there is always (hopefully!) the chance of renewing the show!

The kids of Serenity... or... set it during the war... or... just a brand new crew/same old Firefly... all of these have probably been done to death in fan fiction, but I can see these as being viable options for a "spin-off"

I dunno. I agree that someday there will be a Serenity 2, (if it's called Serenity 2) we just don't know when. As for the spinoff series... That's an interesting thought. Who/what could they spinoff of? I'm sure there is something, but, to make it run a long time, what?
