From NASA Science News:

November 10, 2003: Even on the advanced spacecraft of the future, sooner or later things are bound to break. Space travelers on an extended mission to Mars, for example, would need to be ready to do small repairs just in case, soldering this, welding that.

I had such a clear image of Jayne in one of the EVA suits, welding something on Serenity's outer hull...very shiny indeed!

While channel surfing last night, I came across Young Guns on WGN. Truthfully, there's nothing about this movie that's even remotely similar to Firefly, aside from the Western genre. But during a confrontation on the road between the "Regulators" and the outlaws they were after, I was suddenly taken back to Jayne and Mal on the wagon in Our Mrs. Reynolds. I fully expected at any moment for Mal, Jayne and Zoe to show up. Why? I don't know. The outlaws deserved to get hauled in and the Regulators were doing the job they were supposed to. It just seemed like they should be there.

A sportscaster on the news this morning filtered through my pre-coffee fog with the words "not so much" and I found myself wondering if he actually picked it up from Firefly (or any Whedon production for that matter) or from general pop culture use. Inquiring minds...
