Fanfic update and computer issues
Sunday, October 12, 2008

So. Guns is done and there's plenty more where it came from. I promised, so you're gonna get it, whether or not you're going to read it. However for two glowering reasons, 'Where They Don't Follow' is going to be a short while in coming: First of all I have to get enough of the dang thing rough-drafted in longhand to get it typed, betaed and posted on a semi-regular schedule (might end up being bi-weekly instead of the weekly Guns postings). Which leads to second of all, the big problem, a problem I'm getting extremely frustrated with right this moment:

This damn computer will not stop scrolling up by itself - at the least predictable moments, no less. Browsers, Word, Notepad, everywhere. Makes typing extremely difficult and results in typos in the most inconvenient places. It has done so a half dozen times so far in this one paragraph (and there's #7 now). I've noticed recently that the scroll pad is considerably warmer than normal, and I'm taking a scientific wild-assed guess that that has something to do with it. If anyone here is at all familiar with Toshiba laptops, is this a known issue, particularly with the A135-S4437? And if so, is it an easy fix or does it require Geek Squad attention?

Any assistance rendered is very much most appreciated as this is getting very, very annoying.

Lotsa xie-xie.

Hun, try taking a look at your mouse/pointing device options.

Some devices will have a section for "virtual scrolling." If you have this setting, disable it. You will still be able to use the scroll bars provided in the applications.

The other setting to check is any double-click or triple-click options. Sometimes, these settings can go a bit wonky. Try setting them to none and reboot. Also make sure you don't have any ClickLock (allows you to highlight without dragging the pointer) enabled.

Hope it helps!

I've had a Toshiba for about 3 months now and don't have that problem. I do have a cursor problem. It skips around a bit at the least predictable moment too. It maybe that I'm touching the touch pad by accident but I'm not sure.
