BDM = Big Damn Movie i.e. "SERENITY".

the term comes from a reference in the episode "Safe" where the ship shows up to rescue Simon from the fundamentalist Christians who want to burn River for being a witch. Mal strides up with the exclamation:
"Well look at this. Appears we got here just in the nick of time. What does that make us?"
To which Zoe responds: "Big Damn Heroes, sir."
Says Mal in repsonse: "Ain't... we... just!"

Nathan deserved an emmy just for that line.
