Interesting opposition about the themesong:
Saturday, October 9, 2004

I didnt write it, but I think its written well:

Okay, I really did enjoy Buffy: The Musical, but that doesn't mean that Joss Whedon should go around writing theme songs. In fact, after hearing the theme song for Firefly, I'm going to insist that he stop. Now. Twangy guitar and fiddle music plays as a man sings about how "they" can take his land and all sorts of important stuff away from him, but nobody can "take the sky away" from him. "You can't take the sky from me" is repeated over and over again as the credits show the typical cast list of our intrepid would-be anti-heroes in action. Fine, I can't take the sky away from him, but if I can get my hands on that guitar, at least I won't have to hear about it.

I enjoy laughing at those that I disagree with. This is a good anti-firefly comment. I disagree completely (especially after hearing several hundred people sing it at Dragoncon).

i like the simplicity of the song. instead of having this intense, nearly orchestral theme song such as on buffy and angel (don't get me wrong, i love those songs too), joss went in a very different direction for a show that goes in a very different direction. but hey, that's just my opinion. whoever wrote the comment is entitled to their own opinion, and i do appreciate how well they made their argument (at last, a blog entry that doesn't involve the words 'bigot' or 'facist'.)

so i have to pay attention to the theme song now... man what is the world coming to? why cant i just grab my coffee and nibbles during the three to five minutes it takes to have the intro,ad break, that commercial tv insists we must do... i think that at 1am ANY theme song is irritating...but that might just be my caffined out brain stating its aversion to having more caffine dumped into it.

i know, everyone is thinking "why dont she just get the dvds??"

this befreckled little glowyrm cant FIND the dvds, let alone AFFORD them,
and NOBODY is taking the hint about what i want for my birthday in a fortnights time!!!.

'cept it aint anti-firefly of course. it's just anti-firefly-themetune. personally i agree pretty much entirely and thanks to the well mastered dvds i can skip straight to the end of it every time i watch the show. hurrah.

it kinda fits the western theme of the show, and it hits a sort of nostalgia about the show being cancelled and all, plus i'm sure the dragoncon experience woulda worked for me too, but the style of the song kinda grates to my ears.

I fully agree with you (and pretty much fully disagree with the author of the message.) This IS "good" anti-firefly commentary, and I applaud someone for having the willingness to say their piece and a sense of humor and decorum to say it well. That said, I think they're nuts.

This is one of the best, most memorable theme songs I've ever heard and I'm not a huge fan of fiddles and twangy guitars...
