Strawberry Caper
Monday, June 28, 2010

Excerpt from the electronic diary of Kaywinnet Lee Frye, dated June 28, 2517

Hǎo-wā! Just had the shiniest idea ever! Okay, so I was walkin' around Eavesdown, the nice area? And y'know them strawberry bushes the city businesses plant for pretties?

This idea came on me, all a sudden, I don't think they're eatin' 'em! So I stayed back, kinda sat myself on a knoll, and true as I thought, not a body stopped for some.

Free yummies! :D

Cap'n told me I was jīngcǎi but we still hafta buy canned protein.

MINCINGBEAST

What Byte said. I'm guilty of equating angst and depth. That, and she's a ginger.

Mal is not whiny; he's a martyr. He does his whining symbolically and stoically.

I like Spiderman, yet I'm also getting somewhat more appreciation for Batman.

I just wish they weren't both so whiny. Especially Batman, because even though he lost his parents, his life demonstrably doesn't suck. But I guess that kinda made him crazy.

Mal's kind of the right combination for this, if you get down to it. Depending on the scene and situation, he's reckless, rebellious, a grinning scoundrel, or a stoic brooding antihero with pragmatic cynicism.

I've heard people call Mal whiny, I can't say I see it. If he's whiny, it's played for laughs because his plans are crashing down around his ears. Otherwise he doesn't tend to complain about his lot in life.

AVERYFINECOMPANION

Ohh I understand that. With superheroes I prefer the dark anti-hero types as opposed to Superman or Spiderman.

I usually get all kinds of dirty looks and yelled at for saying so.

Micingbeast likes dark, bleak characters and stories. So it's either that he finds her chipper attitude grating and a distraction from parts of Firefly he finds more interesting, or we're looking at a vampire-like reaction to her sunshine brightness.

I like Kaylee, actually I'm a lot like her sometimes, though I can't say she's the character who interests me most.

ANOTHERSKY

What mincingbeast says just below me.

Are we going to have a Kaylee diary to complement River diary <>?
(which IS COMING BACK--tomorrow!)

Bet it'll be a lot more intelligible. xD And a lot less creepifyin.

Got her voice pretty good.

True, Kaylee is awful. No cause for concern, though you may consider the implications of your spot-on Kaylee voice. They're chilling.

Good luck with the caper, and beware of guard hornets and wasps, and so forth.

Haha, I know you don't like Kaylee. Should I be concerned?

This is a case of real life writes the plot. I plan to rustle some free-range strawberries myself, and then once I committed, the blog required the correct voice.

I concur with the butterflies (a good luck symbol in China, along with, strangely, bats) and also suggest sketches of flowers and hearts everywhere. Some of them might have names of whoever Kaylee is crushing on that week, crossed out as necessary.

I probably ought to spruce up a little (and find a horrible disgustingly cute emoticon, maybe with sparkles), but I fear the end result of that would fall under "seizure and diabetes inducing eye sore."

very nice Kaylee voice! i suspect Kaylee would be unable to express herself electronically without exotic emoticons. i image her diary as something old fashioned, with lots of butterflies on it.
