I don't know If I ever told anybody this but I quite like origami. Recently i've been doing other sorts of papercrafting, with a sideline in trying to make it as a saleswoman of assorted papercrafting pretties, but as all that is rather bulky I couldn't take it with me when I went to folks for the Christmas period.

So pack my origami folder I did and after making a few spirals and fireworks and snowflakes and contemplating making a koi carp (scareily hard looking) I looked around for new ideas - and came across Senbazuru. The idea is you fold 1000 cranes and string them together into garlands, and if you manage it within the year it is meant to bring good fortune. Theres a very lovely but sad story attached if you look it up.

As I like nothing more than making things hard for myself I promptly bought a pack of 1000 papers on ebay and set about making the cranes. I reasoned I'd need to make just over two strings of forty cranes per month to stay on track. I made my first one at 1am January 1st 2011 - whilst a trifle drunk (I named him Frasier) - and as of this evening I've made sufficient for 3 strings.

I'd pat myself on the back if my fingers weren't so damn sore.

Anyway, that is what i'm doing with myself nowadays. Off to make some more cranes.
