SERENITY screening in Raleigh: 6th year
Sunday, May 29, 2011

Every year, Browncoats around the globe hold "Can't Stop the Serenity" charity screenings of the sci-fi movie SERENITY to raise money for Equality Now and other worthy causes. In Raleigh, we also support Kids Need to Read.

This is Raleigh's 6th year as a CSTS city. Since 2006, screenings in Raleigh have raised $18,290.00 for Equality Now and $1,737.00 for Kids Need to Read.

This year, our charity CSTS screening is Sunday June 26, 2011. Doors open at 6pm for raffle, costume contest and food/beverage orders at Raleighwood Cinema Grill. This is a full service restaurant and movie theater, with appetizers, salads, entrees, pizza, desserts, coffee and alcoholic beverages. SERENITY begins at 8pm.

TICKETS are available through eTix -- check the event website at http://www.NCBrowncoats.com (Tickets are not available through Raleighwood. Last year, the event sold out 2 weeks prior, so tix were not available at the door.)

COSTUME CONTEST: Any Firefly/Serenity related costumes welcome. No pre-registration required. Arrive early so you don't miss the line up (usually around 7pm).

RAFFLE: Shiny prizes from around the 'verse. Donations welcome from individuals and businesses. All proceeds go to our charities.

SPONSORS: Minimum contribution is $100, tax deductible, to be a sponsor. Sponsors receive a link on this website, an ad in the event program, and four tickets to the event. Current sponsors are:

* Berkeley Cafe
* Jen Hilton
* Aaron and Sarah Stone
* Raleighwood Cinema Grill
* Wake Forest Awards & Engraving
* Susan Sewell
* Magic Corner
* The Mutineers: Serenity RPG Group
* Steve Burnett
* SeTech Support

EMAIL us at RaleighBrowncoat (at) gmail (dot) com if you'd like to be a 2011 sponsor or would like to donate a prize for our raffle.

CHRISTIANA ELLIS award-winning local author and podcaster will be at the event signing copies of her book, "Nina Kimberly the Merciless," a fantasy novel with a modern sense of humor, about the headstrong teenage daughter of a barbarian conqueror. The podcast was an inaugural nominee for the 2006 Parsec Award for Best Speculative Fiction Long Form and was also nominated for a Podcast Peer Award. In 2010, Foreword Magazine awarded Nina Kimberly the Merciless with the Bronze Award for Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy Novel of the Year.
