We're only liars, but we're the best

There are some things about Captain Reynolds I can’t quite understand. Mainly...why he keeps calling me a whore. I figured he would have figured out by now that being a Companion is one part prostitution, one part being traditional and comforting and one part being a good liar.

I’ll admit. Companions can be liars, but good ones. It’s part of ‘telling a man what he wants to hear’, as Mal once put it. Mal called me a bad liar once, but those were under...certain circumstances. I don’t think he’s aware of what I can do.

Companions are powerful women. With the right ones, you seem to boosted up the social ladder. I guess it’s considered ‘having almost famous friends’ if a well known companion is on your arm. And with our fashion sense, we can start the latest trends among the debutantes of the Central planets.

And Mal still calls me a whore.

I swear, if he wasn’t so dense, he’d see how being a good companion and a good thief can be similar. I don’t hold it against him though. Something about that density is a bit charming...

Not to mention it’s like having an almost famous friend myself with his reputation...
