Part 7: Understanding

As Jayne began to kiss her back, passionately, Kaylee let her hands move up to his face, the sore hand gently cupping his jaw, the other moving around to the back of his neck, drawing him closer.

“Kaylee!” he groaned.

She pulled back, letting her soft brown eyes gaze into his cool blue ones. She felt like she was drowning in the sea of desire and longing she saw there.

“Darlin’ what about the Doc?” he asked, caressing her cheek.

“Oh, Jayne, I stopped wantin’ him WEEKS ago!”

“Ya wantin’ anyone else now?”

“I’m wantin’ you! Ya oaf! Why d’ya think I was kissin’ ya back like that?!!” she grinned.

“Well, now. I guess I was hopin’……” He left the end of the sentence hanging, that sexy smirk she found so adorable plastered across his face.

She reached out to touch him again, and hissed with pain as her burn started to sting.

“Bao-bei, ya need another smoother?....” he asked in concern.

“I’m shiny!” she grinned. “Come here. I can’t stand to have ya so near and not be able to touch ya….”

He pulled her into a tight embrace, her head resting on his chest. He sighed deeply, hardly able to believe that she was finally letting him hold her close.

She yawned.

“Come on, sleepy head! Ya need to lie down and get some rest, or you’ll never heal up.”

“Ya won’t leave me, will ya?” she asked as she leaned back down.

“I’m gonna stay right here, all night.” And he rested his head on her shoulder, curling his hand around her waist.

“Good night, Jayne” she whispered, gently stroking his hair.

She kissed the top of his head as she heard him start to breathe deeply and gently start to snore. Smiling at the sound, so companionable, Kaylee started to drift into sleep herself.
