Leighkohl, Tamsibling and I decided to take a common theme (this one being what happened in that few seconds Simon and Kaylee were in the kitchen at the end of the film) and see how different our stories came out. This is my version.

------------------

Kaylee’s hand brushed Simon’s as she handed him yet another box to stack in the kitchen. When he lifted his eyes to hers and smiled, her knees went week and her heart lurched sharply against her ribs. It was simply unnatural for him to have such an affect on her.

They’d been working on stowing all of the food supplies the Operative had provided and they had the last of these boxes to go. But it was increasingly difficult, following their satisfying afternoon in the engine room, to think of anything else besides wanting to throw him up against a wall and simply have her way with him.

Kaylee was amazed at her restraint thus far. But looking at the way that shirt hugged his well-muscled torso, leaving very little to her very overactive imagination, was making her mouth water. Not that she had anything to imagine anymore after feeling those strong, lithe arms wrap around her body, while his skilled hands made her moan and plead like she never had before.

The anticipation that had built over the last eight months paled in comparison to the real event and Kaylee felt her knees go weak just thinking about the last few hours – and when they could start making up for that lost time – again. He wasn’t very talkative during the act, but then, she didn’t care so long as he cried out her name like that for the rest of his life. She let a soft sigh escape her lips, working robotically to hand the boxes over the counter to Simon. She was so completely lost in her thoughts, remembering him crying out her name earlier, that she didn’t realize when he was speaking it now.

Kaylee blinked and shook her head. “Oh, yes? Sorry, Simon.”

She felt her skin tingle when he flashed her a knowing grin. He knew what she was thinking. He had to. No doubt his mind was filled with the same lusty thoughts.

“Hi you two.” Inara glided into the galley, smiling at the couple

With difficulty, Kaylee tore her eyes away from Simon and turned her attention to the Companion. Out of the corner of her eye she saw Simon nod respectfully to Inara and then turn back to his work, whatever he was going to say to her lost upon Inara’s arrival.

“Hey ‘Nara.” Kaylee hugged her friend, the smile that had been plastered across her face for the past few hours spreading into her eyes, leaving nothing to Inara’s imagination as to just why Kaylee was smiling like that.

“Everything going well?” Inara asked with a raised eyebrow. She knew that look in Kaylee’s eyes.

“Shiny, ‘Nara,” Kaylee tossed a look over her shoulder at Simon’s back and licked her lips. “Real shiny.”

Inara laughed behind a delicate hand. “Glad to hear it, mei mei.” Inara exchanged a conspiratorial look with Kaylee before deciding that she’d better leave the two to their work. She’d get all the sordid details from Kaylee later. “I’ve got some unpacking to do, so I’ll leave you two to your – work.”

“Unpacking?” Kaylee’s eyes widened and even Simon stopped what he was doing and turned around.

“I’ve decided to stay,” Inara confirmed with a smile.

“Oh!” Kaylee launched herself into Inara’s arms and hugged her tight. “That’s so shiny, ‘Nara! Bet the Cap’n’s all excited!”

“The day that man shows excitement for anything but a –“

But Kaylee shook her head, causing Inara to falter. “I don’t wanna hear it ‘Nara. You’re stayin’ for the Cap and you know it.”

Inara shot a look of mock horror at Kaylee and then called to Simon. “I think you need to examine Kaylee, Simon. She’s feeling a bit under the weather.”

Simon leaned against the counter and chuckled while Kaylee pouted at her friend. Both women missed his gaze as it swept down Kaylee’s body, lingering for a long moment on her shapely legs.

“I’ll let you get back to your – work.” Inara winked at Kaylee and made her escape, slipping out of the room before Kaylee could stop her.

After watching Inara’s departing back disappear around a corner, Kaylee turned a sultry look on Simon. “’Nara said I needed examined.”

Simon grinned at her and stepped away from the counter, knowing it wouldn’t keep them apart if he gave in to that beckoning look.

When she sauntered towards him, hips swaying in that tiny little skirt she’d slipped into after they’d showered, he found it very difficult to resist the temptation. But they needed to finish this or Mal would blow a gasket. They’d been distracted – thus causing unnecessary delays – for the last few days already and they both knew Mal was getting annoyed with the change in their relationship.

Simon decided to try one last time, knowing – and hoping – that his attempt would fail. He really didn’t want to be subjected to another one of Mal’s lectures on shipboard relationships. “We have work to do, Kaylee.”

Kaylee pouted at him, and he had to restrain himself from throwing her right onto the table right there in the middle of the galley. Giving in to desires that had been long in coming had given him a freedom that he didn’t know he would ever find and after sampling the delights of her body already twice today, it was becoming increasingly difficult to resist her when she pouted so prettily at him. Remembering her soft skin beneath his hands, his mouth; hearing her cry out his name as they moved together was a memory that would linger until his dying day.

Suddenly, River was beside her brother grinning knowingly at him. “Not that kind of work, Simon.”

Simon’s eyes widened and he quickly stowed the box that was still sitting in his hand. “Very funny, River.” He turned away to hide the flush he knew was creeping down his neck. While not at all uncomfortable with the subject of sex, just knowing that his sister could read his mind was not the most pleasant of thoughts. This was a conversation he never wanted to have with her – ever.

River smirked at him and turned to Kaylee, taking the girls hands in her own. “It’s about time.” She leaned forward and kissed Kaylee’s cheek. She needed to get to the cockpit. The Captain was done speaking with Inara, and she knew his elated mood at the prospect of the Companion remaining on Serenity would need to be curtailed or he would be simply impossible to deal with. Even more so than her brother now that he was getting laid on a regular basis.

She moved toward the doorway and could feel her Simon’s relief that she wasn’t going to torture him further with vocalizing her knowledge of his newly developed physical relationship with Kaylee. Instead, River giggled and leaned against the doorway and called back toward the new couple, “Oh, and Simon?”

Kaylee turned bright eyes on her and she waited impatiently for her brother to lift his own eyes toward his bratty sister, certain that she was going to say something to embarrass him.

“What is it, River?” The annoyance in his voice was clear and River bounced on the tip of her toes and twirled up the steps.

“We work before we play.”

Before Simon could formulate a retort, she danced through the door and up toward the bridge, knowing the Captain was on his way.

Simon stared at his sister’s departing back for a long moment while Kaylee tried to stifle her giggles. “You know,” he began, rubbing his hand over the back of his neck. “Some days I wish I was an only child.” When he shifted his eyes to Kaylee, he could see the difficulty she was having containing her laughter.

“Go ahead,” he sighed as he stepped out of the little kitchen area and approached her. “Let it out. I imagine we will have many more moments where River does her very best to embarrass me.”

When Kaylee noticed the exasperated look on his face, as he tried so hard to look annoyed, she doubled over, giggles turning to full out laughter. She backed toward the table and he stalked toward her, his eyes never once veering from her beautiful face.

“We have work to do, Kaylee,” he chastised as he rested his hands at her waist and lifted her to sit on the table.

“Uhm hmm.” She sobered instantly at the predatory look in his eyes. Parting her legs, she shivered when he immediately stepped into them.

“We don’t have time for play right now.” His hands traveled from her waist to her thighs, his fingertips lightly ghosting over the bare skin the short skirt revealed.

“Nope.” A smile turned the corners of her lips as she slowly wrapped her legs around his.

“Then why is it all I want to do is take you back to my bunk and –“

His words were cut off when Kaylee leaned forward and kissed him, shoving her tongue into his mouth to completely eradicate whatever he was going to say. She locked her legs around his thighs so he couldn’t pull away, but she shouldn’t have worried. By the long, low moan that reverberated through his chest and into hers, she knew he wasn’t going to let her go until she was well and truly sexed.

Kaylee wrapped her arms around his neck as his hands slid to her backside and lifted her off the table and into his arms. Cursing her ability to get to him so easily, he stalked toward his bunk, planning just what he was going to do to her when they got there and hoping they would not be needed for the next hour.

Jayne’s leering grin followed the couple until they disappeared into the passenger dorm hallway. Putting his now empty bowl on the table, Jayne stalked after them, intent on making sure the uptight doc could really measure up to all of lil’ Kaylee’s expectations – and, ‘o ‘course, to do a little peepin’ of his own.

You know I love this! River's moment was perfect as was her timing and Simon's response to Kaylee of "Go ahead." letting her know she could laugh at his discomfort, was absolutely perfect.

Of course the notion that these two can't keep their hands off each other is not new, but the way you write it is exquisite!

And I still want to know what Simon was going to say to Kaylee before Inara interrupted - tell me!

I love it! My fav line-
She sobered instantly at the predatory look in his eyes.
Just love that image of Simon being predatory! And I want to know wahr Simon was gonna say too!!! This is all around fun, especially River taunting Simon and Kaylee getting the giggles form it. Jayne is so perfect, lusty and curious! Can't wait for part 2!

>“We work before we play.”

*snerk!* She is SUCH a brat lol. A perfectly in-character brat, of course. I can just picture her lurking around the ship in the early days of Simon and Kaylee's relationship, thinking up new ways to irritate her poor brother. :D

Jayne at the end...hee!

Part 1, eh? Shiny! This is off to a promising start.

And we NEED some new S/K fic around here...a LOT of it.
