“I got a surprise for you,” Kaylee said as she came bounding into the cargo bay. Jayne looked up at her with a cocked eyebrow and shook her head. Girl had more energy than was normal for any one person.

“Gotta get these crates loaded,” Jayne said, turning away from her to finish up the work Mal had assigned him.

“Ya get t’wear a blind fold,” Kaylee tempted, batting her eyelashes at him innocently. Jayne paused what he was doing and looked over at the mechanic. What kind of surprised involved little Kaylee and a blindfold? The mercenary was intrigued. A wry grin spread across his face as Kaylee handed him the black cloth. “Turn ‘round so I can tie it,” she ordered.

Jayne did as he was told, taking a seat on one of the crates so Kaylee could reached. The black cloth came over his eyes and immediately all sorts of dirty things were running through his mind. Couldn’t really blame him though, not the way her body brushed up against his back while she tied the cloth. He couldn’t help but have a few less more than platonic ideas going through his mind..

“There,” Kaylee announced, stepping back and moving around him. She reached out and took his hands, pulling him to his feet. “Now no peeking.”

Jayne felt her tug him along. Girl wasn’t doing much to hide her destination and Jayne was quick to catch onto where they were going. What fun could they have in the lounge? After a few seconds Jayne was being back up until his legs him the couch. She slowly eased him into a sitting position before letting go oh his hands. There was a moment of feet shuffling before she was back in front of his again.

“Alright, take it off!” she declared. Jayne reached up and pulled the cloth down over his eyes, a grin wide across his face. The grin fell as soon as he realized what she was holding. His throat went dry.

“Kaylee…”

“You like it?” she asked, beaming proudly.

“Why are there gorram flowers painted on my gun?” Jayne asked, standing and quickly snatching the weapon out of her hand. He looked over the weapon and felt his eyes near bug out of his head “Ai ya! A butterfly!! Butterflies are on Vera!” He thought his heart was gonna pound out of his chest. He looked up at Kaylee, ready to spit fire at the mechanic, but her face was already crumbled and she looked about ready to cry.

“You don’t like it?” she asked, her lower lip quivering. Crap. Gorram girl was gonna cry. Jayne searched for anything not mean to say, but nothing was coming.

“Damnit Kaylee…why the hell did you put flowers on my gun?”

“Well you said you liked the flowers I painted in the kitchen,” she pointed out, still looking like she was gonna cry.

“I was jus’ bein’ nice,” he growled, but immediately regretted it when she flinched. Jayne sighed and looked at Vera. Flowers…did it have to be flowers? He opened his mouth and closed it again, searching for something to say that wouldn’t have her balling her head up. “It ain’t…it ain’t that bad, I guess. Gorram crazy women in this boat.” Screw Kaylee, Jayne thought he was about to cry. What had gotten into her head that made her think painting his gun (his favorite gun at that) with flowers and butterflies would be a good idea? Jayne heard a choked sound escape Kaylee lips and cursed himself. Mal was gonna blast him out of the airlock for making Kaylee cry. He looked up at her, ready to tell her it was alright when he stopped.

“Are you laughin’, girl?!” he growled. There was a second and then Kaylee doubled over, holding her stomach and laughing harder than he’d seen anyone laugh in a long while. “What’s so gorram funny?”

“You…oh Buddha, Jayne…your face. It was priceless!” Kaylee managed out between giggles.

“You painted Vera for a laugh?!” he roared, which only made Kaylee laugh harder.

“It’s washable Jayne, it’ll wipe off with some water. Spent all my coin getting’ the paint for that too, but it was worth it,” she laughed. Jayne just shook his head and stormed away. Gorram crazy womon.
