The Browncoat symbol is upside-down. Very shiny otherwise.

I froze the pilot and checked. 56 seconds in we see Mal tearing off the patch. The officer is lying on his back, his head on the left of the screen from our view, and the triangle is pointing right, meaning it's pointing down his body, meaning that if he were standing up the triangle would be upside-down and the star right-side up. Check it yourself, if you like. It takes some close looking and very precise timing, but I promise I checked very carefully.

But if you can point me to these alleged screencaps I would be happy to look at those as well. I tried to get a cap of the scene I was looking at and my player wouldn't let me, so I just had to make a note of exactly where it was on the timer.

My gorram DVDs are on loan...but even if your right about it being wrong, it has pretty much been widely accepted that the inverted star on the upright triangle is the syumbol of the Browncoats, if not in the show, then those of us who call our selves Browncoats. Additionally, there is merit to the inverted star theory because the green and yellow background with inverted stars is common among African rebel groups fighting their oppressive governments, so it kinda makes that Independent v. Alliance all the more meaningful. Remember, it's about believing in something...and we
believe it to be inverted. ;)

So in conclusion, I'm not saying you're wrong, just saying we're not on the losing side. Keep flyin'! :)

In the pilot, the LT's patch is clearly not inverted and point down when it is pulled off his arm, but the one on Mal's right arm is point up and star inverted. i don't recall if there are any patches on Mal's arm The Message. Personally, I like it point up and inverted; it just looks better that way.
