Mal was buying the drinks that night and for that Jayne was in a good mood. Wasn’t often the captain reached in and pulled that stick out of his ass but when he did it was a great day for everyone. The job had gone good for once, almost no hitches at all. Put a man in a right good manner. It was nice to be celebrating; there hadn’t been much to rejoice about lately between the slow in work and Miranda. Seeing Zoe smirk like she was though…well Jayne was just glad to be seeing thing go back to normal.

“It’s about time he got his act together, sir,” Zoe laughed, nursing her mug of beer.

“They sure are making up for lost time though,” Jayne shook his head. “You gotta move my bunk or somethin’ captain. Think little Kaylee might be in heat. The sounds that are coming outta that girls mouth...”

“Jayne,” Mal said, a light warning tone in his voice.

“What?!” Jayne leaned back, downing the rest of his beer. “If you had t’hear them ruttin’ day and night you wouldn’t have pretty words neither.”

If this had been a normal day, Mal might have threatened him or something worse; instead the captain just grinned and ordered another round. “It’s a small boat, we all hear them,” Mal said.

“Whatever that doctor is doing though…he must be doing it right,” Zoe mused, the smile widening on her lips.

“Just been so long for Kaylee she don’t know good sexin’ from bad,” Jayne grunted.

“You jealous?” Zoe asked, raising an eyebrow at Jayne.

“Hell no I ain’t jealous!” Jayne replied indignantly.

“Sounds like your jealous,” Mal agree, sharing a look with Zoe before they both started laughing.

“I said I ain’t fuckin’ jealous,” Jayne growled.

“The man says he ain’t jealous,” Zoe shrugged, taking a drink of her beer and exchanging looks with Mal. Jayne wished he could understand their looks sometimes, he hated being talked about behind his back, ‘specially when it was right in front of him and they weren’t even talking. Got under a man’s skin.

“That he does,” Mal agreed.

“Stop that,” Jayne grunted. Mal and Zoe both gave him innocent looks but stopped their staring at one another.

“So, Sir, what’s our next job?” Zoe asked, moving the topic of discussion much to Jayne’s relief.

“Got another meeting with Fanty and Mingo. Seems their willing to renegotiate that 40 percent cut they thought they was entitled to,” Mal said, grinning and sipping his drink.

“’Bout time those two came to their sense,” Jayne laughed, drowning the last of his drink.

Oh...this was seriously brilliant, Mordsith! Definitely could see Mal and Zoe riffing at Jayne with silent looks and zingers at his expense;)

And we all know Simon's a doctor...man's gotta know the right places to visit;)

Gettin' better all the time, kiddo.

Jayne admit he's jealous? You'd have to torture the man, really seriously torture him and then he STILL might not admit it.

Loved this: < “Just been so long for Kaylee she don’t know good sexin’ from bad,” Jayne grunted. >
