Simon Says

There was a game called Simon Says that children used to play

And I got teased with “Simon Says” quite often in my youth

I thought that if I learned enough I’d have my say in truth

But no one ever listens to what Simon has to say

Simon says he’s frightened, and Simon says he’s lost

Thrown in with total strangers who he doesn’t understand

His life and independence held within a gunman’s hand

He doesn’t know the future and he doesn’t like the cost

Simon says he’s worried for his sister’s sanity

He vows that he’ll restore her to the girl that he once knew

He must admit right now, though, that he doesn’t have a clue

And if there is an answer it is one he doesn’t see

Simon says he’s homesick for his family and friends

He misses the stability of living in the Core

And every misadventure here just makes him miss it more

Caught in a life of running, and the danger never ends

Simon says he’s lonely, he longs for one to hold

Though there is one with whom he’d take a chance

He’ll never give the concept an opening to advance

Until the future story of his life can be foretold

Simon says he’s hopeful of how things will turn out

The strangers that he feared have now become a family

Each one in their own way giving him a place to be

Giving shelter to his sister, reassurance to his doubt

Simon says he will go on and do the best he can

For his sister and his someday love all the friends he’s found

By the ties of blood and danger, and loyalty he’s bound

To give up the child of “Simon Says” and grow into a man

Geezer...both of these are wonderful! I would love to say more, but I can't.

Long live and write, O thee of the poet's hand!

How do you do it time and time again? This is fabulous, as always! Heartwrenchingly beautiful. I always look forward to reading your poetry.

This is really, really good. You've really got inside Simon's head and captured his character perfectly, and the rhyme scheme works so well- usually rhymes seem forced in fan works, but I can't point to a single one here that does; they all just flow naturally.
