Kaylee convinces Jayne to break one of Mal's rules. *set before the series* Jayne/Kaylee oneshot. Don't ask for more!

CATEGORY: FICTION    TIMES READ: 2986    RATING: 9    SERIES: FIREFLY

God, I can't believe I'm posting this. I don't even like this pairing. But I owed 'Itsawash' for her shiny S/K fic

Title: Breaking the Rules

Rating: PG-15

Synopsis: Kaylee persuades Jayne to break a rule.

Author’s Notes: This takes place months BEFORE the series began. Because no one will ever be able to convince me that once Simon got on board, Kaylee ever had eyes for anyone else but him. Disclaimer: This story is not meant to infringe on the copyright of any person or company related to the trademarked characters and situations depicted in the Serenity movie or Firefly series. I make no money from this. Only done for fun – and a desperate craving to have more stories told about this wonderful ‘verse Joss Whedon created.

--------------------

I owe Itsawash for writing me a S/K fic. Consider yourself DAMN special for getting even this little bit out of my brain! :)

Thanks to Washie for the beta.

--------------------

“I need to get off this boat, Mal,” Jayne followed the Captain all the way to the cargo bay, brushing by Kaylee without a single backward glance. He’d been warned the minute he stepped on board not to touch that girl. And so far, despite how hard he got at the mere sight of the mechanic, he’d not so much as looked at her the wrong way – well, when anyone was looking, that is.

“Learn to control your hormones, Jayne,” came Mal’s exasperated retort.

“It’s been weeks!”

Kaylee crept closer to listen, her curiosity piqued.

Mal didn’t answer, simply double and triple checked the cargo before pulling himself to his full height and staring down the mercenary who’d only been on his ship for a few short months.

“I need some trim, Mal. C’mon, a man’s got needs.”

Kaylee raised an eyebrow, her eyes darting from Jayne to the Captain and back again. Jayne wasn’t the only man who needed a good lay.

When Mal opened his mouth to answer, Jayne glanced up at the shuttle, “Unless you’re – breakin’ your own rule.”

Mal rolled his eyes at the thinly veiled implication that he was relieving his needs in the Companion’s bed. “Wash and Zoe are already breakin’ my rules.” The disgust was evident in his voice at their blatant disregard for his number one rule – no shipboard romances.

Jayne’s mouth quirked into a knowing smirk. “Couldn’t afford her ‘eh?”

Mal huffed in annoyance. “I’ve never bothered to ask.” He raised his finger like a father scolding a small child. “And we’ll be on Santo within the week. You can get your needs met then.”

Kaylee flattened herself against the wall as Mal strode through the door and up the back stairs, grinning as she thought of the Captain and his rules. She’d grown up breaking every one her parents put in front of her. And she’d turned out quite fine.

When she poked her head around the door, she landed cheek-to-chest with a very tall, very muscular Jayne Cobb.

Kaylee’s eyes went wide with surprise but she didn’t step back. She stood her ground. Refusing to be intimidated by this hulk of a man that simply oozed sex before her very eyes.

“Spyin’ll get you in a heap of trouble ‘round here.”

Kaylee cocked her head to the side and grinned at him. “Only if it’s you doing the spying,” came the confident retort.

“Yeah, well,” Jayne took a step back, unnerved at her behavior. “I got – things to do.”

“Uh huh.” Kaylee’s eyes swept down the length of him and then back again. “Got near a week before –“

“Don’t,” Jayne raised his hand and silenced her. He didn’t like the way she was looking at him. No, he corrected himself, he was instantly aroused by the way she was looking at him. But Mal’s warning echoed in his head and he wrinkled his nose in disgust that he was even concerning himself with the Captain’s opinion. Jayne Cobb was not a man to turn down a willing woman. Ever.

Kaylee’s eyes flashed with hurt for a moment before she shoved her hands onto her hips and challenged him with every inch of her petite frame. “I ain’t good enough for ya?”

Jayne’s eyes widened and he opened his mouth to speak but she wasn’t finished.

“Girl’s got needs to, y’know. I ain’t had none in longer than you probably.”

“Ya don’t want me, girl,” Jayne snapped, willing his feet to take a step back but unable to force his brain to connect with his limbs.

One glance at his rapidly tenting cargo pants told Kaylee all she needed to know and she grinned coyly at him, eyes dancing. “You want me, though.”

Jayne growled, glanced down at his hips, and swayed forward, towering over her. “Boy gets all excited over any pretty little thing.”

Kaylee took a small step forward and Jayne could feel the scent of engine grease and sweat on her skin. It was a heady smell that made him want to push her up against the wall and take her right then and there.

He knew how she’d gotten her job on this boat. Despite that sweet, innocent face, there was a lusty aura that surrounded this girl. He could see it in the sway of her generous hips, in the swish of her hair, the way her eyes danced over any handsome boy she met, or, the clincher that sent him straight to his bunk without dinner, the way she ate a strawberry.

“Don’t mean nothin’, Jayne.” An inch closer and he could feel her breath on his skin. “Just want ta feel somethin’ down there for a change that ain’t run on batteries.”

Jayne swallowed thickly. Gorram girl was gonna get him thrown off this boat.

Long, thin fingers tapped out an uneven rhythm against his chest as at once those puppy dog eyes turned from sweet and innocent to feral and hungry.

He hadn’t even felt her put them there.

“Mal catches us and I ain’t likely to make it to Santo alive.“

The flash of smile across her pretty mouth told him she’d noticed how his voice had dropped, revealing his barely contained arousal. “It’s just sex, Jayne.” Kaylee said with a shrug as she turned around and walked toward the passenger dorms, her dirty coveralls hugging her curves in all the right places.

It took the big man a moment to regain his senses as the synapses in his brain shorted out due to the pooling of every available blood cell in his groin. With a low, determined grunt, he willed his legs to move and he caught her just walking by the first dorm room. He wrapped big, thick arms around her waist and slid open the door, growling, “That’s right, girl, that’s all it is. Just sex.”

He was going to hell. But he knew the satisfying rut he’d have between her legs would be worth it.

END

Yes, I still love Simon. Yes, all the rest of my fics will have Simon and Kaylee together. I just loves them! :)

This was written as payback for Washie and posted because she nagged.

okay, first let me get over the shock! intense and unbelieveable shock.

*stares into distance as she continues to attempt to realize Leiasky just wrote Jaylee*

I like that you set it before the series. I mean how long were they on the ship together... two people of that sexual magnitude, i always figured they at somepoint got drunk or really horny.

Liked it, shocked... but i liked it.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

*deep breath*

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Is it OK that I feel dirty 'cause I kinda liked it? I think it's because no-nonsense, I'm-gonna-strip-you-down-to-yer-shorts-in-5-seconds Kaylee makes me "GUH".

OMG! Kaylee and Jayne?? Ick that is so gross! This is total blasphamy!

LOL Alright I've had my fun for the day. Yeah, I had to do a double take when I saw the Jayne/Kaylee in the tag line. I think I was shocked still for a full minute. I'm without words except this:

Jaylee sex *snickers*.

Yes, and THAT comment just put one HELL of an idea in my head for something Kaylee can do to Simon . . . writing it now. . .

>OMG! Kaylee and Jayne?? Ick that is so gross! This is total blasphamy!

It IS! SO glad you agree with me! I never thought I'd see the day!

Heh, Jaylee is like an addiction for me. I love pairing both of them out with other characters, but Jaylee is just dear to my heart. What can I say? Just can't help myself and Adam *sigh* I have more photo ops at Flan with him then I know what to do with. I'm still cracking up at the idea of *you* writing Jaylee. I think the 'verse has turned itself upside down.

Okay ... wait a minute ... what is going on? ... Did I just wake up in some alternate universe where everything that was up is now down and everything that was left is now right?

ZOINKS! I cannot BELIEVE you write S/J! I just .... can't ... OH MY GOD!

However, I am greatly looking forward to whatever little Simon/Kaylee moment you've got going ...

Still, I think I need to lie down for a bit - didn't you tell me once hell would freeze over when you wrote S/J?

No wonder it's gettin' a mite chilly!

I'll never write S/J. I can tell you're shocked. This is J/K. . . LOL!
And I'm sick today... cold and all, you know. . . so my world IS a mite chilly today.

Ah! I'm sensing a Jaylee vs. Silee rumble, for both Kaylee's affections and Leiasky's authorship.

Two men enter. One man leaves with the mechanic and a story line, one slinks back to his bunk as a supporting character.

Gentlemen (and ladies, 'cause damn if Zoe, Inara, and River wouldn't want to watch a Jayne/Simon grudge match, too), welcome to...Kayleedome!

Sorry to say, but unless it's a battle of wits, Simon's probably toast.

No, I haven't been drinking. Why do you ask?

Wee, fun! And, oddly, you didn't have to stretch the characters to make it work. Good job!

And look what a stir you've caused! Let's hear it for bonding between the S/K and S/J crowds!

With Leiasky as the author, you can feel safe putting your money that Simon will win. Lol. I'm still waiting for this to be like some cosmic joke.

Oh... my... God... okay, I feel all... dirty and betrayed now... Leiasky, HOW COULD YOU!!!!! Hah, no, kiddin'... or not... Damn, I really thought (and hoped) that I'd never see the day... I think I need a shower now...

*does a Chicken Little impression from the complete shock*

The sky is falling! The sky falling!

*runs away*

*comes back to say*

I feel like I should say something about how out of character it is for Kaylee to want Jayne at all...

Isn't that how we review Jaylee fics these days?

I gotta agree with mordsith (like there was ever any doubt that I would), I'm waiting for the cosmic joke punchline to be revealed.

ITSAWASH

She shoots, she SCORES! TEN! TEN! I say again, TEN! Sigh. I wrote my own NC17-ness in my head after that last line, Leiasky, so no worries by the feedbackers are necessary, they can just ask me and I'll lay it out for 'em.

But the way you left it was perfection. No better way to do it, leaving me all het up and wanting and happy, so happy! I've read some good sex and some good almost-sex, but this one is better than both of them, because it goes right up to edge and teeters so sweetly, so well, Leia.

"My" Jayne would be so happy to live the pretty scene you set for him in this fic. Jayne and Kaylee's voices are so well-written, I could see and hear them all through it. Thank you for having the cojones to write this and POST it. I see it as a tribute and I'm gorram grateful for such talented work as this getting to breathe air in Blue Sun.

ITSAWASH

And to Mordsith, Lucas Harper and others: Anybody who's seen how Jayne worried, hiding outside the operating room when Simon had Kaylee on the table, and seen how he teased her unmercifully at the dinner table because he'd seen her flirting with the brand new tenant, Simon, can see that there's wanting there.

And anybody who saw the ep with Kaylee up against the engine room bulkhead with Serenity's ex-mechanic between her legs and if you've heard her talk the goofy prairie brand of English that Jayne uses, well, it's natural to realize Jayne and Kaylee are enough alike to make their being a pair a natural suggestion. It's Simon who's off, here. Attack me for the opinion if you will. It is, after all, only my opinion, but it's as valid a thought as any writer could have. Ya'll Silee folk are loving the canon, the Joss-ness, but we Jaylees are just as entitled to our love of our pairing. Thank ya again, Leia, for being diverse and wonderful and talented and brave to post something outside the Silee comfort zone. I know how it feels, having posted a Silee of my own. The Jayne inside my head cringed when I did it, but it felt good nonetheless!

ARTEMISPRIME

Hmm, interesting little debate going on here about Jaylee vs Silee. How about we focus on the stories rather than the emotional bias we have to the pairing.

This was a well-written story that showed Kaylee being very Kaylee-like. I found this line "“Ya don’t want me, girl,” Jayne snapped," interesting as Kaylee didn't deny nor agree with it. Wonder what that says.

Lol yeah we like Jaylee. Me and Leiasky have talked about this through PMs before and she told me she'd never write Jaylee! I'm still in shock. But it was well done Jaylee.

KAYNARA

okay so, first, the reviews are longer than the story! and i'm a little disappointed about that because, hell, all that jaylee lovin' was kinda hot. it's like you're a natural at writing jaylee, leiasky, and okay, i'm gonna shut up before you never speak to me again lol!

anyway, re your little tale:

"He knew how she’d gotten her job on this boat. Despite that sweet, innocent face, there was a lusty aura that surrounded this girl. He could see it in the sway of her generous hips, in the swish of her hair, the way her eyes danced over any handsome boy she met, or, the clincher that sent him straight to his bunk without dinner, the way she ate a strawberry."

as you know, i love that passage. beautiful, dead-on kaylee description from jayne's voice.

the only part i was unsure about was this:
"He wrapped big, thick arms around her waist and slid open the door, growling, “That’s right, girl, that’s all it is. Just sex.”

i think it is evident that jayne has a crush on kaylee (that goes beyond just being attracted to her) from the series. maybe this crush develops out of an encounter like the one you wrote here? for her, it was just sex, but for him it was something more? very interesting....

RIVERISMYGODDESS

Sorry it took me so long to feedback, been a busy weekend.

I like how you made the setting before your precious Simon got on board, probably the most believable setting for a Jaylee fic.

~ hehehehehe

She’d grown up breaking every one her parents put in front of her. And she’d turned out quite fine.
~ Who follows every rule they’re given anyhow? Certainly not Mal, or anyone else on board Serenity.

simply oozed sex before her very eyes
~ I thought she liked participating, not just watching :P

the way she ate a strawberry
~ You have most certainly been influenced at least a little bit by Washie

Long, thin fingers tapped out an uneven rhythm against his chest as at once those puppy dog eyes turned from sweet and innocent to feral and hungry.
~ When Kaylee wants something/someone, she has no problem just taking it/them.

“That’s right, girl, that’s all it is. Just sex.”
He was going to hell. But he knew the satisfying rut he’d have between her legs would be worth it.
~ Great ending lines here.

I am so very glad that you took the chance and wrote this story. I think it is excellent, and I think you did a good job of opening up your mind a little and trying something new. :)

all of the beginning was a perfect mal and jayne combo. just like 'em.

"Kaylee flattened herself against the wall as Mal strode through the door and up the back stairs, grinning as she thought of the Captain and his rules. She’d grown up breaking every one her parents put in front of her. And she’d turned out quite fine." <<lol, nice. i like this line

“Girl’s got needs to, y’know. I ain’t had none in longer than you probably.” <<heh, that's our kaylee, always upfront like that.

"He knew how she’d gotten her job on this boat. Despite that sweet, innocent face, there was a lusty aura that surrounded this girl. He could see it in the sway of her generous hips, in the swish of her hair, the way her eyes danced over any handsome boy she met, or, the clincher that sent him straight to his bunk without dinner, the way she ate a strawberry." <<LOVE LOVE LOVE this line

muah ha ha!!! oh yay, leia wrote jaylee!!! shiny shiny jaylee!! :) I like it. you tease the reader and have good characterization. I think Kaylee wouldn't be THAT unconcerned about having sex with jayne, but i'm a romantic with them. btw, is this before simon came on board, or after? cause it would make a little more sense about kaylee being more like she was if it was before. :) overall i'd give it a 10....any chance i'll be able to get more jaylee???? *makes puppy dog eyes* pawease...... :D i know i know....never again...when hell freezes over...*secretly puts hell in the freezer* FREEZE! FREEZE I TELL YOU!!!

Very proud of you here! Having the skill to go outside your typical subject matter...great job! And your skill with the voices was superb also. I'm glad you took the challenge...cause you made it work very well.

“I need some trim, Mal. C’mon, a man’s got needs.” *Yeah....Jayne's got needs, always has em' and his way with words....you did a great job of capturing them here.

Jayne’s mouth quirked into a knowing smirk. “Couldn’t afford her ‘eh?”*LOL now that was funny, and typical of Jayne to make a comment like that to the captain.

It took the big man a moment to regain his senses as the synapses in his brain shorted out due to the pooling of every available blood cell in his groin. *Ummmm.....good descriptive typinig here, especially the snyapses in the brain shorting thing.

Very good story here, I know you are partial to Silee, and thats fine, but you've given us a fine example of your ability to go "out of bounds" for yourself. The mark of a good writer say I. I'm bettin' at some point in time you'll do it again.
