A Man Named Jayne
Tuesday, October 24, 2006

This is a silly poem I wrote describing a normal Jayne day. Well...maybe not so normal. Can be sung to the tune of "Ghost Riders in the Sky" if anyone remembers that song.

CATEGORY: FILK    TIMES READ: 5098    RATING: 8    SERIES: FIREFLY

A man named Jayne went ridin' out one dark and windy day,

Upon a ridge he rested as he went along his way!

When all at once a mighty herd of red-eye ghosts he saw,

Come rushin' through the ragged skies and up a cloudy draw.

He shot his way through flashing swords, though razor sharp they were,

He bopped them on their little heads and then ripped off their spurs!

All the while a giant smile beamed from ear to ear,

He knew he had them on the run when he used Vera.

This man named Jayne will always be as wild as they come,

He won't ever stay at home or let himself be glum!

He says "no!" to stayin’ clean and sitting in a chair,

Even though he really wants to become a millionaire.

He has saved the town long before from dark and threatening things,

And has been named the best Hero from neighboring towns and kings!

He has taken all the honor with a smile and wave,

While fighting all the magistrates an' sends them to their grave.

But one such threat has made him grow a sharp and witty sense,

Even though it seemed to have impossible defense!

A young man showed with back-up teams of many angry chickens,

When Jayne Cobb fought them back, his pace then swiftly quickens.

Soon Jayne’s breath is very short an' his muscles tired and worn,

His gun is out of ammo and his expression quite forlorn!

The young man standing over him was laughing very loud,

Proclaiming that his rifles were old and he was cowed.

It strikes a chord deep within our Big Damn Hero’s soul,

Eyes snap open sharply and he pounced with no control!

The young man realized his mistake in making fun of him,

When Jayne hit him on the head, showing his demur.

The man was beaten soundly and the chickens sent back home,

Leaving Jayne Cobb all free to leave the town and roam!

Watching closely over things and spotting any trouble,

He will always be close by and be there on the double.
