Ah, I haven't written a Firefly filk in a while.
When listening to certain country songs I've always thought of Serenity.
Here, Mal tells his own story, to the tune of . She said “Thanks for answering my call” I said “It’s the least I can do” She said “it’ll all go down before the next day is through And you’ve been staring at that gun Twice as long as you looked at me I want to make love to you but I ain’t selling, this one’s for free” I said, “Nandi, I ain’t as good as I once was, And the years have got me down and it’s been some time, since a woman so fine Took ahold of my plow But if you need some love tonight then I might have just enough I ain't as good as I once was but I was good once, as I ever was” I had some run-ins with my crewman Jayne not sure that I’d call him friend as a fighter he’s great, but he wouldn’t hesitate if he got paid to turn us in We were in a real tight spot And he didn’t like my plan I said “Do you want to run this ship? Well, Jayne, you know you can’t” I said, “Jayne, I ain’t as good as I once was There’s a lot that I can’t do but if you wanna get paid, then you do what I say Long’s you’re on my crew And if you want to fight tonight Well I just might call your bluff I aint as good as I once was but I was good once, as I ever was” I used to be hell on wheels back when I was a younger man now my body says, "You cant do this boy" but my pride says, "Oh, yes you can" I ain’t as good as I once was even I got to say but I still go and get tight, start up a fight on Unification day If the Alliance wants to mess with me Well I’m ready to play rough I ain't as good as I once was but I was good once,as i ever was maybe not be good as I once was but I'm as good once,as i ever was
