Absolution

Still from the scene in the BDM right after Haven is destroyed. Any other suggestions on text are welcome - I knew what I wanted the feel of it to be, but I struggled a little with the text.

I love the stuff you've been uploading. You're obviously quite talented.

One minor point, though, it's generally considered somewhat bad form to flood the BSR with more than 1 item a day.

I love this ... and I have to say that as I've noticed a lot of people uploading more than one item a day, I can't see how it's bad form! Keep up the brilliant work!

Beautiful still. I agree the text isn't quite there. I'm thinking that instead of questions, Mal might be more of a statement kind of guy... e.g. "No absolution. No forgiveness. No God. What have I done?"

In BDM, Mal looks at Book and says "It should have been me." The question of 'what have i done' seems to take ownership of the situation more than the others.

If you pm me some of your other ideas for words, I'll play a little more. But overall, I think you've captured a very nice emotion!

As for flooding, I'm far more guilty of it than you are and since no one can clock the actual influx of items into blue sun, there's no given rate on what constitutes a flood. Don't take it personally. But some advice: the image thumbnails only appear once, so be careful you don't flood yourself out of the list ;)

Yeah, I can see the text for this one is hard. Since Mal ain't looking for help from on high, he might not look too hard to a God for absolution, either. Mal's question, way I see it, might be more along the lines of: "Can I find piece with myself for what I've done?" Like your second question.

Ultimately, you're the artist, of course, and it's entirely up to you to portray Mal's religious beliefs in any way you see fit -- especially since none of us really knows exactly whether Mal just doesn't believe in God any more, or is just too disappointed in Him to ever set himself up for a fall by believing in Him ever again.

Love this, especially how you have married the image of Mal to the emotion. Ali D :~)

Brilliant stuff, Nidrian! Definitely a perfect screen shot...though the words are a tad bit hinky;)

And flooding? If the rule of thumb is supposed to be 1 upload per day to avoid dumping a lot of people off the submissions list, then there are more than one violator of that rule around these parts. I think that it's all dependendt on how busy the BSR is on a given day. Slow day means a bit more leeway since you're keeping the average turnaround time generally constant. Fast day? That's where a probelm arises;)

Out of Gas Mal - SMALL
OK so I fixed the size on this. I didn't realize it was soooo massive....anyway same commentary cut and pasted from the massive version: Wow, it has been a super long time since I have posted anything! I have been really busy with my classes and stuck in a creative funk which pretty much sucks. I have decided to try to teach myself how to draw - I'm using the middle school art class tactic of square-by-square which is a sort of cross between freehand and copying. At least thats how I see it. Anywho, this is my first attempt - the mouth is a little weird, the eyes aren't exactly the way I thought they should be and my scanner didn't pick up all the nuances of the shading but, eh, what can ya do? Not too shabby for a first go of it. Comments are like candy. I can never get enough!

River - Bushwhacked (Blue)
Second version with similar uncreative title. Comments are great, as always.

River - Bushwhacked (Red)
Very uncreative title, I know. I kinda struggled with what to do with this one...I started with the background but it needed something more - I came up with two versions, the second of which will be posted shortly. Anyway, comments are awesome and I always love hearing what everyone thinks! =D

Melted III
Third and final color scheme. No text version available upon request.

Melted II
Second color scheme. No text version available upon request.

So, I have been having kind of a rough day (don't worry, I won't prattle on about the details, suffice to say a close friend is in the hospital) and as always, photoshop becomes my therapy to get my mind off of things for a little while- I had about three different color schemes for this and I think this is probably the best. If anyone would like for me to post the other two different color schemes, just ask and no-text version is available upon request.

Broken - No Text
For anyone who likes no text better.
:)

Broken
Ok so the text I came up with myself and boy was it tricky. I wrote two verses and I wasn't happy with the lines but then just as a goof thought I alternated first and second verse lines and I think its rather schnazzy now. Overall, I am very very pleased with how this turned out, especially with the images of Inara - The image of Mal gave me one hell of a time, but I think it turned out ok. No text version can be posted if desired, just let me know. Anyway, comments are always awesome.

River III
Third River wallpaper that I've done, kinda sorta happy with how it turned out, I'm still deciding. The more I look at it, the more I like it, but I'm not sure it's 100% as great as it could be. Anyway, comments, as always, are great.
