Chapter 5: Passion play
The Captain snickered at her and put her eye patch back on. “Muchas gracias,” she said. He didn’t respond. He proceeded to carefully untie her legs and arms, re-handcuffing them as Jayne looked on. She didn’t even make a peep. The captain led her out the door and down the corridor to one of the passenger rooms which were converted into a holding room some time again, with River and Kaylee looking on. . She looked up at them and Kaylee was staring at her with big doe eyes. River was another story; she narrowed her eyes and looked over at Simon who was sitting on a chair.
Maria closed her eyes and River responded by closing her eyes also. Again- They stood toe to toe. “I’m this close, River,” Scorpion said. “Can you taste it?” “This close to what?” asked River. “This close to having your man at my mercy,” Scorpion said with a smile, eyes shining. River screamed and the Scorpion quickly opened her eyes.
“What’s wrong?” Kaylee asked as she tried to calm River down who was going wild. Scorpion just smiled and stood there as Simon hurried up the stairs to try to calm his mei-mei.
“She isn’t going to hurt you, River,” Simon said, trying to reassure her.
“Not me. Not me,” said River.
“Like hell I won’t,” Scorpion chuckled. Captain Reynolds responded by elbowing her in the stomach. “You know you aren’t very hospitable,” she said as she responded to his blow by stomping down on his foot and followed it with a head-butt.
Before Jayne could react, she kicked him in the face and hurried up the stairwell and barrel rolled into River, avoiding Zoë’s shotgun blasts. She made the act seem effortless, even with her hands tied behind her back. River countered with kick to the neck and Kaylee moved out of the way as Scorpion fell backwards.
All of a sudden Inara made an appearance. “What’s going on?” she asked as she peeped out of the door to her shuttle. It looked like she had just arrived. “Never you mind, ‘Nara. Get back in your shuttle now!” Captain Reynolds commanded as he took out his pistol and aimed it at Scorpion as she ducked a blow from River.
“Ok! That’s enough,” Scorpion said. “This is between her and I and no one else is to interfere.”
“Like hell…” Jayne said as he trudged up the stairs and got her in headlock, pressing Binky against her throat. She stopped and pouted. Simon came up and injected something into her arm. And then he uncharacteristically slapped her in the face. She spat at him and smiled sadistically. She looked over at River-who had a look of triumph over her face. Scorpion winked and closed her eyes.
“All in good time,” she said as she passed out. “I still say it was a bad idea,” Zoë said. Captain Malcolm Reynolds looked more tired then usual as he responded. “She’s just doing what she was trained to do,” he said as he turned his attention to Jayne. “Whatever you’re going to do, do it quick. I want her off my boat before any of her friends come looking for her,” he said, turning heel.
As he was about to walk away, he turned back to Jayne. “And do me a favor Jayne, make sure you get the information first, before you finish her off, if you need to finish her off.” Jayne rolled his eyes. He knew the Captain meddled in his affairs but he was giving him a direct order not to use death if it were unnecessary. He threw her over his shoulder and carried her the rest of the way to the holding room. He threw her on the bunk and sat in a chair, staring at her as she slept. He couldn’t wait for her to wake up so he could rip her to pieces. Something in his John Thomas stirred. He didn’t know why he was so excited.
~~~~~ She was surrounded by the black again. This time she was under a spot light. Random people stepped forward as her life was judged by an unseen force. The dark master: “Life is not worth living, death is the only choice.” “I have already died. Over and over,” Maria responded River: “Death is not a choice.” “I did not choose death. It chose me,” she responded in turn. Her mother: “Abandoning hope is not the choice.” “Then what is?” she responded again. Her father: “To be free is to have choice.” “I am not free!” she screamed. Malcolm Reynolds: “You are not free.” I know that! Who is going to free me?” she yelled. River again: “You must free yourself.” River was right, and Scorpion nodded in agreement as she fell back into the darkness.
~~~~~ River opened her eyes, hoping she’d made a difference. At the same time Scorpion opened her eyes and sat up. Her hands were bound behind her back and her feet, and she felt woozy and a little flush from the drugs.
“Ok, lady. We are going to play by my ruttin rules, dong ma?” "Chur ni-duh," Scorpion responded as she spat at his feet. “Now there you go hurting my big bad feelings,” he responded gruffly, with a little bit if sarcasm in his voice. “Listen Cobb, I have been beaten, tortured and raped and all of that was from my boss, what more can you do?” she said “I can do lots of things to make a girl like you squeal,” he said as he ran his knife down her face. The look of red hot heat that crossed her face was unmistakable. She licked his knife and smiled flirtingly and closed her eyes.
River was there and Scorpion stuck out her tongue as she opened her eyes.
“Do your worst, pendejo!” she snapped. She didn’t say anything else, but licked her lips.
He approached her and inhaled heavily. He lingered for a few moments and pondered what to do next. “Just tell me what I need to know,” he said. He should have said please because right about then him sounded like a fancy pants. “Stop being sly and get to it,” she said in a huff.
“Sly? Who you callin sly?” Jayne said angrily. He grabbed her by the hair and held the knife to her throat. She took the opportunity to move her around his and slowly move her foot up and down the back of his thigh. He was more confused then anything, but he knew one thing: he didn’t hate where this was leading to. … In her mind she skipped around River faster and faster. River was unmoved. … She moved her other leg around Jayne’s waist. She didn’t have any hidden drugs left but she knew one sure way to knock any man out. Her other leg moved around to his waist and she applied pressure. “Could you find it in your heart to untie me?” she asked.
“Nope. I may be dumb but I ain’t stupid,” he replied. “Kinky,” she said as she grinded against his bulge. He licked his lips and was swept of his feet as she flipped him over. Now she was on top. She proceeded to lick his neck. He pushed her away. “What is your game, woman?” he asked as he pushed her away. He got up in a huff and tried to regain his composure. Did he want to fuck her or punish her? Perhaps he wanted to do both?? “No game,” she said, smiling. He pushed against her shoulder like a confused chimp. She rolled her eyes. “So you wanna play rough?” she asked as she kicked him in the face. Instinctively he tackled her onto the bed but it was to her advantage. She resumed her licking his ear as she whispered, “Hurt me. Please, hurt me.” She didn’t know what passion or love was. The only thing she knew in this world was pain. Their eyes locked. In her eyes he saw sorrow and in his she saw understanding. He never kissed. Never. So he avoided her mouth by ripping open her shirt and attacking her breasts. “Untie me?” she asked between heavy breaths. “Not on your life,” he said as continued the frontal assault. With one hand he unzipped his pants and with the other he undid hers. He found her center of being and she moaned a little. Was this supposed to be like this? ~~~~~
She closed her eyes and stared at River, who was crying. “I will use him and run. He is yours. I’m sorry,” Maria said. “I will be free.” River grabbed her hand and they embraced.
~~~~~~ She opened her eyes to see Jayne looking at her, the heat evident in his eyes. They shared a moment: two hired guns, two lost souls. And she told him her story- naturally between thrusts. It was wild and passionate, but there was no love there. And the feeling was mutual. Naturally he fell asleep when it was over, as she thought he would. She used Binky to get free and opened the door and left. She noticed how quiet it was. Was everyone asleep? She reached the main cargo hold when she heard a click. It was Captain Reynolds. “And where do you think you are going?” he asked. “I told your man back there what you wanted to know. I’m gonna make this thing right,” she said “You probably told him some sort of falsehood before you got free. How - did you get free, by the way?” asked Mal. “I did him duh.” Scorpion said bluntly. He understood but didn’t lower his weapon. She told him as well. “Now, I’m not some sort of Saint. I know what I did was wrong. I’m just going to correct it and join my parents as I should have during the war,” she said. “The war may be over, but the Alliance is still out there and they need to pay for what they done,” he replied. “They didn’t do anything to me. The way I sees it, I don’t think it was them that did me wrong. In times of war, the military forces can do terrible things. You ought to blame the politicians behind them and the big corporations behind those puppets,” she said. “Well, you figure that kind of right. Too bad you won’t be living to bring on any of that change,” replied Mal. “So what? I may be dead but at least I will have tried, instead of hiding in the black like a dog still licking its wounds,” she said. “She is right, you know.” Inara said from the ledge. She had heard every word. “You stay out of this,” Captain Reynolds said. He turned his attention to Scorpion. “Did you just call me a coward?” he asked. “I would never do anything of the sort. You took on fugitives and treated them like family. Sometimes somebody has got to take the bull by the horns and fight. And some people just got to lie low and wait for the fight to start up again. I will not take River this day or ever. You just protect her; I’m going to gut that son of a whore…” She looked over at Inara “No offense ma’am.” “None taken, if he truly did those things to you he must have learned no manners,” Inara responded.
“Thank you.” Scorpion turned her attention to Reynolds. “I am unarmed and I don’t plan on coming back. If I do-shoot me, right between the eyes,” she said. River came down the stairs with Scorpion’s Katana sword. “Keep it little one, you are going to need it for the fight ahead,” Scorpion said softly. River nodded. And Scorpion bowed slightly and turned and walked out the cargo bay door. Reynolds and Inara gave each other a look, and Jayne came out of the cell staggering and scratching his head. “Where’d she go? I was just getting started,” he grumbled. River looked at him “You are such a boob.” ~~~
