Since the "In earnest, Mal: why’d you bring her back on?" question came up again in General Discussions, I thought I might as well repost this item that was lost in the last server crash. :) Haven. Mal, mostly to himself, I reckon, says: "I had an out. Hell, I had every reason in the 'verse to leave her lay and haul anchor." Upon which Books utters the truest words ever offered a human soul in this crap-heel 'verse: "It's not your way, Mal." Mal chooses not to abandon River. This is the theme. The difference between day and night is that of the light in this 'verse deciding to do the right thing or not (Extended Commentary below).
