Blue Sun redesigns Serenity Logo
Sunday, May 31, 2009

Mal Reynolds was pleased when he sold the screen rights for his life-story. He said to the exec at Blue Sun Studios, "For five million cash, you can do whatever with my legend." Mal stopped smiling. "Now pay me." Mal though he had made a smart deal until Blue Sun paid ten million to River Tam for her part of the story. After talking about the good-old-days on the phone, River explained to Mal how her deal was done. "Zoe in a business suit is a fierce-some contract negotiator. She terrifies 'em." River added, "You never did have a head for business, Cap'n." Mal had mellowed enough to admit that was, possibly, true. As part of Blue Sun's universal marketing plan for the biographical movie about Mal, Chris Kiser of KiserDesigns redesigned the Serenity logo. http://kiserdesigns.deviantart.com/art/Serenity-2-0-78128380

Now we need to know how Blue Sun twists the story.

"Fierce-some"?

Causal asked why "Fierce-some"? Fiercesome, invented in 1999, is primarily used as a more efficient word to express great strength or ferocity. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=fiercesome I was thinking that River would use slang to express herself to Captain Reynolds. Rather than invent a funny new word, like 'gorram', I checked the urban dictionary.

Somehow I imagine the central section (orange with lettering and grey outer band) either bouncing around inside the outer circle (so that the gridlike background is behind), or possibly rotating on it's central axis. Good work. And I too love the anecdote ... how much did Jayne get?

Damn - used the wrong 'its'.

Jane0904 asked how much did Jayne get?

Jayne got nothing because it would be a conflict of interest for him to be paid by Blue Sun Studios. He already works for them making movies with lots of explosions, crashes, and blood. Also plenty of gratuitous sex. He is kind of a demolition & high explosives expert for somebody like Jerry Bruckheimer / Michael Bay. Jayne's philosophy of quality cinema: “Bigger bangs bring bigger boxoffice bucks.” Jayne is very successful at what he does although he did lose part of hearing in an explosion while making Pirates of Caribbean in Outer Space.

And if you can't believe that Jayne is now a big shot, the alternate universe story is that Jayne is in prison for tax evasion. He has never filed an income tax return and refused to take any money from Blue Sun because the Alliance would have confiscated it for those taxes that he owes. Dumb move, Jayne.

TENTHCREWMEMBER

Sometimes you can improve on a good thing, and this is an example. Doesn't make it better, mind you, but does make it shiny!

I need to convert this into decals for my car... ;)
