Addendum:
The reflection at the top of the axe is quite remeniscent of Luke's lightsaber on the original Star Wars poster.

That is a terrible poster. Sorry, had to be said. Everyone's beautiful, of course, but how is that in the spirit of Firefly? Or is our BDM taking a turn toward 2001: A Space Odyssey?

Yeah, 'cause it's not like "2001: A Space Odyssey" is a classic or anything. (Although I fail to see how that poster is reminiscent of Kubrick's film.)

Personally, I pretty much dig it. Summer always looks gorgeous, but her pose is slightly cheesy. But, whatever, I like the sort of barren nature of the poster.

For God's sake, like 2001 being a "classic" has anything to do with our BDM!! Give me a break. Do you really want to see the movie turn toward the slick, clean "office-buildings-in-space", "stand back--for this is a forbidden planet"
Hollywood sci-fi CRAP that gets foisted on us? That poster may be technically beautiful, but it DOES NOT fit the spirit of Firefly, unless they've sucked all the western out, pumped up the sci-fi, got rid of the hand-held shots, cleaned up all the lens flares and bad framing and basically turned our BDM into every other sci-fi movie ever made. If that's what you're going for, then this is a great poster.

But honestly, are we not allowed to be critical? Since when did being a Browncoat mean that we have to like everything that's shoveled our way? I personally detest this poster as not being in the spirit of Firefly. Look out everyone! Independent thinking!!

You sound a mite twitchy, InevitableBetrayal.

When did I say you couldn't be critical? You voiced an opinion, and I voiced mine. I didn't say it was a great poster, I just said that I kind of dug it. I don't really think Summer's pose fits, but the barren desert background seems appropriate for the frontier spirit of "Firefly." It is not my idea of an ideal poster, but, frankly, I never really expect marketing types to agree with what I think is best.

And as far as "2001: A Space Odyssey" goes

As far as "2001: A Space Odyssey" goes. . .HAL 9000 just tricked me into hitting "submit my comment" before I was done.

Anyway, as far as "2001" goes, I took your comment to mean the content of the movie itself, not the art direction. I was just thinking that if people (i.e. non-Browncoats) end up thinking of "Serenity" in the same context as "2001" - that is, that it's intelligent, adult science fiction - then I think that is a good thing.

I didn't make this, but I love it and I'm using it as my desktop wallpaper: it is a famous painting by Hopper called Nighthawks (people who are up all night...) and it has been used in humor by a lot of people, who ever did this really did a great job!

Okay, this doesn't actually look like Kaylee's shirt: http://fireflyfan.net/sunroomitem.asp?i=12175

there was some recent interest in my doll, so I thought I would show him again: he has more weapons now, and a little tiny Blue Sun shirt I made for him... the teeny tiny Jayne hat I bought from MaggieBurns (from the Universal board) who makes them for 6" or 12" dolls: maburns@uplink.net
