BLUE SUN ROOM FILK
Mal's thoughts when he first meets his three passengers near the beginning of the episode 'Serenity' - who can he trust? He's got to know...
CATEGORY: FILK TIMES READ: 2081 RATING: 7 SERIES: FIREFLY
(to Kenny Rogers' "The Gambler"
As we're lifting off from Eavesdown
And we're heading out to Whitefall
I met up with the passengers
Who'd joined as paying fares
I could feel each one hid something
You can bet I weren't too happy
I can't afford no ignorance
In my gorram boat's affairs
The first one, he's a shepherd
Full of good-book quotes and guilt-trips
Claims he just wanted to walk the world
After bein' too long away
But he knows far too much 'bout
Things a shepherd shouldn't know of
So if I ain't seeming too trusting
I'm sure you'll forgive my ways
See, I need to know when to stow 'em
Know when to throw 'em
Know when to ask real nice
When to get tough
Can't afford no more mistakes now
Need to stay right off the radar
Cos' while flyin' free might not seem much
For me 'n' mine, it's enough
The second one's a doctor
Spoiled rich kid with a secret
Soft white hands that never did
A day of work in their whole lives
And I can't stand the way that
He looks down his nose at real folk
But his money's good - keeps us afloat
So his tenancy survives
Third one's an enigma
Got no inkling of his story
Ain't one for askin' questions
'less the answers concern my crew
But there's something not quite right 'bout
The way he acts around us
So I'm thinkin' there's decisions comin'
'bout what I have to do
See, I gotta know when to stow 'em
And somewhere on our journey
Someone tries to send a signal
Alerting Feds from near and far
We've stolen goods aboard
And a part of me wonders
Why it never can go easy
And wonders which one sold us out
And what was his reward.
See, I shoulda known when to stow 'em
Known when to throw 'em
Known when to ask real nice
Cos' while flying free might not seem much
Yeah, while flying free might not seem much
