“I’m starving” “Mmm” “Aren’t you hungry?” “Nnn” “Really?” “Uh-huh” Simon stared down at Kaylee, her head resting in his lap while she was stretched out across the couch trying to take a nap. It had been a long day. Things had gone awry yet again, a job that was supposed to be a milk run turned into a colossal misunderstanding. Mal had inadvertently insulted the buyer’s brother while negotiating a price, leading to a brawl. Simon had a front row seat, as of late he seemed to be going out on more and more jobs. Quickly assessing the fastest route to the door, Simon dodged a fist and lunged for the bag holding their payoff. It was in between the legs of a really large, hairy, smelly, thug, Simon thought he might be related to Jayne. With all the fists flying, Jayne’s “cousin” was completely distracted and Simon was low enough to grab and sling the bag across his shoulder. Reaching out to tug Mal’s collar, Simon ducked, missing Mal’s fist by seconds then motioned with his head towards the door. Jayne was having too much fun slamming skulls together but responded when Mal screamed out, “C’mon!” The brawl had turned into a full blown melee, making it easy for them to slip out but not before the pretty brunette barmaid called out from underneath the table by the door, “Bye Jayne!” She waved coyly from her crouched position, stopping Jayne dead in his tracks and plastering a toothy grin across his face. Mal reached back, dragging him by the arm into the street. Zoe already had the mule running. As she pulled up, Simon jumped in the back, landing on the floor and not the seat. Jayne easily leapt into his seat as did Mal. They’ve had more practice, Simon thought to himself as he slipped up onto the bench, ignoring Jayne’s cackling. While speeding back to Serenity Mal turned to Zoe. “Might’ve needed a little help back there?” Without even turning to Mal, completely focused on driving, Zoe responded, “I started the mule.” Mal squinted slightly at her remark then grabbed for the comm. “Girls, fire her up.” “Cap’n, I just started rewirin' the nav controls, ya said we’d have at least another-” Mal interrupted Kaylee, “Do whatcha gotta do, just get her goin‘!” He turned back to Simon, eyeing the bag still slung around his chest, "Nice job Doc, knew I brought you for somethin'." "I am the criminal mastermind."

"Nothing with that man is ever easy," Inara lamented as she held a mess of wires in one hand and shone the light for Kaylee with the other. Kaylee smirked to herself but was concentrating hard on getting the controls back up. With a quick electrical spark, the panel above lit into being. “That’ll havta do for now. ‘Nara, could ya open the doors, I wanna make sure nothin’ goes haywire up here.” River immediately began lift off procedure, her deft fingers buzzing around all the switches with instinctive accuracy. Inara gently laid the wires in her hand on the floor, who knew which ones were live? Still clutching the flashlight she quickly made her way down to the cargo bay, slamming the button to open up the doors. Moments later, the mule flew in, all it’s occupants in one piece. She hit the button to close the doors and began on the comm, ”They’re i-”, but never finished as Serenity jolted up, racing to leave the planet.
After leaving atmo, Kaylee was stuck in the cockpit trying to rewire the nav system while they were in flight, a time consuming task that she needed to focus on, no distractions. Simon thought it would be best to stick to the passenger lounge and read while he waited for her, but ended up passing out sitting up on the couch. He awoke to find Kaylee’s head in his lap and his stomach churning. His hand gently smoothed back the hair that had fallen into her face, then rested it on her shoulder. She smiled slightly but still did not open her eyes. With his other hand Simon wiped the sleep from his eyes. His stomach growled, protesting loudly to have not being fed. “Bao bei, I’m sorry. I’ve got to-” “You’re very loud”, River reprimanded as she headed down the stairs carrying a plate in her hand. “Thank you, mei mei”, Simon replied as his sister handed the plate to him, ”Is there any left for Kaylee?” “Ate already” “She didn’t wake me up for dinner?” “You were snoring, thought you were too cute to wake”, she answered climbing back up the stairs.
