of anything, ever.... it was quite fun to make but took forever... is there a resource somewhere where i don't have to rip every scene from my dvds?

so here it is, be nice!

it's My Hero by Foo Fighters, featuring Simon.

Hey that was a good first fanvid. If I may make a couple of suggestions?

The song is great, but I think it'd be a better song for someone with more action like Mal or Zoe or Jayne. It's too energy-driven for the doctor shots, ya know?

The first time the chorus hits you have a shot of Simon gettin totally owned by Jubal Early and it says "there goes my hero" and he's gettin owned.. so maybe that very first shot of the very first time we hear the chorus have it be a more heroic shot of Simon.

With this pace of music, don't have the shots be too long.. you want faster cuts with this type of music.

Try to avoid long shots of peoples mouths moving because the audience wants to hear what those mouths are saying and its sort of frustrating when you don't hear it. Stick to shots where just facial expressions or actions show what you're trying to say.

I like the idea you have in the beginning, of Mal saying "he's my hero..." but (and this is no fault of your own), the titles in the beginning of the episode is sort of distracting. So maybe have the audio over a shot of Simon doing something (maybe in slow mo), or over black (and maybe make your title at that point).

The ending just didn't seem to fit really, but I see what you were trying to do.

I'm sorry if I sound like a smartass or anything, I'm not trying to be anything of the sort, just giving out some pointers. Overall, very good job for your first fanvid!

thank you very much for your super quick responce! i too wish i could get rid of the text in the beginning, but i don't know how to edit frame by frame (which i would do if i knew how).

i chose to do simon with this song because he's *not* a typical hero, and he's ordinary. and he's a hero of a different sort.

(i also thought doing mal or jayne would be way too easy for this song)

i did try to stay away from too many long shots but my ripper wouldn't get me all the shots i wanted so i got a little annoyed and had to use what i could...

Yeah, I totally understand showing Simon as a hero, it's just my opinion that song doesn't fit with shots of Simon.

There is no real way to take out the text.. well there is, but you have nothing to replace where the lettering went.. more than likely it wouldn't look very good. What I had meant, was take the audio and use different video. I don't know if you've seen my video "this is my sister" but for example.. there is a line where the fed from "serenity" says "there's nowhere you can take her the law won't find." I took that quote and put it over different video.

What did you use to edit this?

Roxio VideoWave (aka the free one that came with my computer that i had never used before)

i did see "this is my sister", and thought it was wonderful... definately one of the best. you told a great story with it. it was actually one of the ones that made me want to try it.

but also one i could never aspire to... i don't have that much imagination... might someday have more skill, but for now...

so what (preferably free) program do you recommend and did you rip all your clips or did you find them online somewhere to download? (downloading would take so much less time... took about 10 hours to rip and 2 or 3 hours to assemble)
