Hi, I'm a long time lurker here but I only recently registered, and this is my first post. I've been a Firefly fan since The Train Job first aired back in 2002, and recently I've started a project related to that very episode. I don't know if this is the right forum for this, but I could use some help and this is the best place I could think of to find it.

I introduced a friend to Firefly to by loaning her my boxed set of the show, she liked it so much I let her have the set, and bought myself another. She has a hobby of making custom barbies; tearing out their hair and re-rooting it with different colors and styles, and having custom outfits made. Her birthday is coming up in a few months, and with these two facts in mind, I've decided to make a custom barbie of Inara to give her as a gift. I learned enough of it from watching her to know how to do all the basics, but where I'm falling flat is in the outfit. I don't plan on making it myself, because the only options there are to either piece it together from existing barbie accessories, or to learn to sew tiny dresses. Neither would provide satisfactory results in the time I have to do it, so I hope to find somebody that does this kind of thing for a living. What I need right now is reference of the dress I want her to wear.

I went through the entire series as well as the movie on my computer and took screencaps of every scene inara was in. From the two-dozen or so outfits she wore, I've decided the one I want to dress her in is from the scene in The Train Job. Specifically; the red dress she wears when she rescues Mal and Zoe from the local sheriff and in the scenes following it. I've managed to get decent shots of most of the dress, but I haven't been able to find a good view of everything. I'm particularly lacking on the back of the dress, the cape she wears with it, and her shoes.

From what I've put together already, and provided I can find somebody who actually makes custom barbie dresses, I'm pretty sure I can get a decent copy of the dress. I'm a bit of a perfectionist though, and I'd like it as close to screen accurate as possible given the scale I'm working with. Would I have any luck trying to contact Shawna Trpcic and asking for any pictures she could provide? Or is there anybody else that can help me with getting a closer look at her outfit? Also, if anybody around here has any experience with custom barbie creation and can suggest a good dress maker, that would be very helpfull. My friend has a girl that does her dresses, but I don't want to tip my hand and ask her for an email address.

Thanks for reading all of this, I tend to ramble, but any help would be much appreciated.

Have you tried this site? It doesn't have "Train Job" dress but it has others.

I have Ms Trpcic's email address if you want to try that route. Email me. ETA: Actually don't. I see there is a contact link through the costume auctions; that would be the better way to go.

Personally I think you're going to have a tough time getting Barbie to look like Inara; totally different body and face shape. They don't make a Barbie pretty enough to be Inara.

Thanks for the comments guys, I did send her an email asking for help, hopefully I hear back soon. I know I've got my work cut out for me, I'm just hoping I can get a likeness close enough to recognize who she is.
