THEMANTHEYCALLMATT

I've never written a fanfic, for Firefly or anything else. I'm absolutely in love with the 'Verse, and I'm a decent writer, so I'd like to give it a try. The problem is that I have no idea where to start. I want to steer clear of shipping for now, I just want to write a general, canon-like, post-BDM story of short to medium length. So, does anyone have any plot bunnies they're willing to donate? I will be eternally grateful... or at least grateful for a really long time

SAVEWASH

Now I am learning about scary.

Sorry, no bunnies here, just a friendly bump so that maybe someone qualified will see this.

Good luck!

DAYVE

hey, MatTheManthey...call - well you've got a good writers name anyway...

but some time back (i don't remember the thread), but someone started a story and asked for folks to build on it - anyway, as i remember, the ship was boarded by the Alliance, and they were looking for Shepard Book - (someone correct me if they see and remember this)... I missed the results of the story - but thought that was a pretty good start -

for what it's worth

DESERTGIRL

Good luck with the writing. I have written a few stories. Some have been better received than others. I find that the best way to write is to start with something in the real world that you are passionate about. Create tension around that issue, translate into the future and insert our favorite crew.

For instance in my story "Traditions" I had just gotten into a heated political debate with my father in law. And it struck me how he was so accepting of our government, because they were the government. It reminded me of Gabriel Tam's not accepting that the academy could be hurting River. The story just came out after that. And having Mal pistol whip GT made me feel better about the whole situation.

In my story "The Additions" My kids kept asking me to tell them stories of spaceships, so I had to think of a way to get kids on Serenity and keep them there. Again once i figures out the tension, the story just came.

I also remember from creative writing class that a good story picks one central character and watches them change or grow. I am not sure I managed that but I tried.

Oh and I also highly recommend having someone beta read. I can never see the missing "the's" and the misplaced "there’s and theirs in my own work"
Good luck and I will be watching for a story.

That's excellent advice, thanks! Hopefully sometime soon I'll actually have time to give it a try...

STINKINGROSE

Blink, blink.
Plot bunny? What is this creature?
Is it like a dust bunny, because I've got lots of those,or is it more of a thingy which is a generative source of plots?
Hubby read my first fanfic before I posted it and gave general critique. I'm writing without a net lately.
I think I'm doing my own beta. I run a spellcheck then go through and line by line look for inconsistencies. They tend to jump out at me when I'm reading. Not so much with the writing, though..

Welcome, and I look forward to seeing your stories. It's a friendly old 'verse around these parts.
