In Cannon or Non-Cannon ships, which stories have you seen enough of?

IE, Simon gets shot and Kaylee nurses him back to health or whatever.

also

Are you more orless likely to read a story if you know it prominently involves another character that the author made up in a relationship?

Such as Mal and (fill in the blank) Someone not from the ship?

Hope that all made sense...

Mal: You know, you ain't quite right.
River: It's a popular theory.

I think I've seen enough of 'space-spawn.'

I love reading stories with OC's, actually. Love them originals.

One thing that I never see 'round here are cross-overs.

I don't think any storylines are completely burnt out; I think there are some that are overused, but that only becomes a problem when the author is lacking in the imagination and talent to write a good story out of it.

Heck, you could probably have ten different people write an identical "Mal rescues Inara from some horrible fate and they hook up at long last" fic and come up with several good takes on it. Some would be repetitive and/or not believable, but some would be original and powerful.

I would really, really like to see less slash and more "Firefly-like" fics. Slash can be good, but it so rarely is.

"Love keeps her in the air when she oughta fall down, tells you when she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home." .......We love you, captain.

"This is the captain. We may experience some slight turbulence and then.....explode"

Heh, heh...I'm corrupting minds round here, then. Can't be doing with Firefly:TNG either...

You looked at my stuff? We got OC's, and I'm working on two crossovers at the moment. One's a Pratchett Xover, and the other is so odd, it's hurting my head. I'll post 'em soon.

Hurt/comfort bugs me, if only because people recover from trauma too quickly, with few repercussions.

Hmmm...like 13 I'm a bit tired of someone (usually either Zoe or Kaylee) becoming pregnant.

OC's I tend to be a bit leery of due to the large percentage of Mary/Marty Sue-isms that tend to propogate in them. I've found this tend to be a much higher percentage if the OC is a love interest for one of the main characters.

Relationships? Speaking strictly for myself, I don't read slash. I don't have a problem with those that do, I just personally don't care for it (and would like for folks to please label them as such from the onset.)
I also have a problem with Mal/River stories, and ya can't swing a dead cat without hitting 'Rayne' stories, but I will actually read those if the description catches my fancy.

But I am a sucker for a crossover story, which most folks think of as devil-spawn or some such.

Frankly, you should write what interests and excites you. Why? Because if you don't enjoy writing it, chances are, it'll show in the fic, and most likely other folks won't be too thrilled with it, either.

I remember something from English class in 9th grade about there only being like 6 actual types of stories ever written, and that all stories are just variations of them. I wish I could remember them, as that might actually be considered the least bit insightful, but sadly I didn't pay much attention in high school.

I'd say in general that I get tired of seeing love itnerests for main characters. I was actually a little dissapointed that Mal ended up with that one hooker, even for a night. It made his character seem less desperate. It's a common ailment I see in action films and the like, they throw in a main squeex for the protagonist just to have a woman in there. It's annoying as shit.

I don't think that there are any stories that are particularly played out, becuase when you come down to the heart of it all, this is about these characers, and where you can take them, and how far you are willing or able to take them. None of these characters (with the exception of kaylee, of course) are particularly nice people, and they all have pasts, so there is no end of great things you can do with them.

Simon: "Were there any Feds?"
mal: "No, no Feds, just an honest brawl between folk."
