i just got to thinking the other week, weather or not reavers had any type of social structure, or hierarchy? Like reavers are some what of a mystery to me. A walking contradiction if you will, as they are clearly able to fly complex spacecraft and make complex battle plans, as well as plant traps for there enemy's and at the same time be able to live in harmony with all the other reaver fractions. But the only time we ever see reavers in the open is when they do a bums rush chanting Brains, Brains..... and trying to naw your head off.

is there a side to reavers we are not seeing...lol this is getting really weird. (me pictures a reaver based Sitcom) But seriously they must have some type of reaver leadership, someone in command and telling the others where to fly the ship to next. also on that same thought, ships need fuel to fly, so where do the reavers get theres from? Captured ships? maybe that why they attack other ships.... to siphon fuel.

also can reavers reconize other reavers, and is that why they avoid attacking each other? or maybe its like a pheromone thing.

well thats my two cents on reaver philosophy.

Very interesting thought...

Mal said once that "if you run from Reavers, they have to chase you, it's thier way", which also happens to be pack behavior. So...that might mean the Reavers have a pack heirarchy.

Which leads me to the question...Are there female Reavers?

I always thought it was one of the better aspect's to it, especially when we're getting into the zombie movie fun in the BDM ^^ monster's are always scarier when they're inexplicable, when you don't understand them, in this case, when they're relentless, horrific, murderous, well, things, they are just blood and carnage.

Makes them far scarier then a structured enemy would be ^^

Ever wonder if that's why we anthropomorphise animal behavior? Why we seek to place our own motives and values onto that which is alien to us? Purely to make it less scary? xD

So what about the way that reavers first became reavers (the chemical released into the air on Miranda) and the way that one guy became a reaver (by watching all the other reavers do devastating things)

You're right, one of my earliest and scariest things to nightmare about were the zombies from Night of the Living Dead. They had no social structure, no way to convince or trick them into stopping, good point!

I was originally thinking of a wolf pack mentality, that's pretty scary. Wolves at the door and all that. But you're right, it's ;ess scary.

I prefer a nice Pugliese, or a sourdough baguette.

Actually BrownCoatJim (possibly my favorite fic writer here) did a good Reaver horror fic. Basically there was an 'Alpha' Reaver who was still as psychotic as the rest of them, except he still had some smarts left in him.

So it ties back to the 'pack' structure for them, and thats how i'v always written them. It works fairly well too.
