Yup, I've done a vid to a japaneese song. There are some english here and there, but it's sung with a japaneese accent... lol.

The song is "Redemption" by Gackt.

The vid is mostly centered around River and the trouble that follows her. Clips from both Firefly and Serenity

Comments are welcome, good as well as bad, just comment damnit... I welcome all kinds of feedback, because I want to learn from my mistakes as well as mark what I do well... lol

And for those of you who wants the english translations for the lyrics here they are:

Good editing of action clips. How many hours work was that?

What editing program are you using? The width and height settings are out of wack. Widescreen is supposed to be 720x480. Your volume is also too high - it's distorted no matter how low you play it, which is aggrevated by the compression codec.

Thanks to Firefly, I've started listening to Jap and Asian music. At least I haven't heard it 100 times before.

I started working on it a couple of days ago, I did some editing, then saved what I had so far, then continued the day after, over half of the vid was finished yesterday, the amount of hours I can't remember.

I use Windows Movie Maker and it has two settings you can have, I chose the widest to accommendate the widescreen-ness of Serenity, I wish I could change the settings to make it truly widescreen, but I'm afraid that's not possible... The volume, hm... maybe I can do something with that, I didn't make any changes to the volume of the song, just kept it in the settings the original song file had.

Thanks bunches for your input. The song is pretty new, it's Gackt's newest song, one of my roommates got it. She's my resource for J-rock :)

NUCLEARDAY

Oh wow, just got done watching it and I'm constantly amazed at how creative the Browncoats are!

Really liked the opening scenes, even watched it over a couple times just for that. Real nice transitions there, and the cuts and your scene selections really fit very well with the music. I thought it was quite shiny :) Really liked some of the moments in there (the sped-up part with the Alliance soldiers searching the galley during the pan out to River and Simon outside was a nice touch.)

Also, very nice rockin' out space battle! If I had a criticism I suppose that that sequence shifted some of the focus off of River at a climactic point in the video? If that makes sense. And don't get me wrong, that's a very small nit-pick on my part. Emotionally, though, I think everything was very tight. Double-plus shiny good!

I guess in a way you're both right and wrong. True the focus went off being directly about River (hence I had said it was only "mostly" about her), but it was an indirect focus on her, it was her past, her secret, her battle. How the crew suffered and fought for her. So in a way it was still about her.

And could you recomend some good video editing software? Preferably on the affordable side, I have very little extra cash.

Well, I use Windows Movie Maker, which is as basic as you can get, if you have Windows 2000 or better you have a version of it under "accessories". If you have XP with Service Pack 2, you have Movie Maker 2, which holds a couple of effects you can use as well ;)

Excellent video! All the comments by the previous browncoats are spot on--you have awesome action sequences, and they are very well synchronized with the music. I watched it over and over again, it was so good.

My only quibble--and there are always quibbles, no matter how good something is! I know this because I am a writer and get and give feedback from a writing group--is along the lines of what Nuclearday was saying, but maybe slightly different. I feel a little disoriented at the end where River is shown in the bright daylight on Miranda, upset by the souls of the people who are not doing anything, just lying down. This comes at a point in the video after the battle to get to the surface to transmit the hologram, so it loses some continuity that way. Of course I have no idea how it would fit in musically to put it earlier in the video, but it seems to be a step backward for River, who has already kicked a$$ and shed a lot of her academy-induced neuroses, and is now back to "getting all helpless".

Just my 2c--this is an awesome video in spite of my dumb little quibble and I think you should seriously consider sending it to Gackt. Maybe they could get permission from Universal/Fox to use the footage and make it their video!

Thank you. Well the last sequence I wanted to have River crying for redemption (just as Gackt sings "redemption") as she feels guilt over how people has suffered in order to protect her, fight for her. The miranda sequence is the closest I got to a visualization of that. So it was more the visiual aspect I brought it in, not story-wise... lol

Well Gackt already have two official videos for this song. The music video and an adverticing for a game, which I can't remember the name of, but if I remember correctly it's kinda like Final Fantacy, only not exactly. But I thank you for the compliment ;)
