Hey kids,

As some of you were probably aware, I was in the process of writing a story called THE ENDLESS ROAD when the BSR was hacked. Unfortunately, the three chapters I posted have not been recovered (nor has the other story I wrote, OF A THOUSAND). To add insult to injury (and a sense of deja vu a la the series being broadcast out of order and then cancelled), our university network was recently hit by a virus and a lot of people lost a lot of work. Among the casualties was the next seven or so chapters of THE ENDLESS ROAD. As I'm in danger of forgetting where I was going to take the story - I can't finish it as I can't remember some events I had planned - I figured I'd share the plot here so the people who read it (only a few, I'd wager) would get some closure.

If you recall, the following events had happened
- The Alliance Military Council were looking to overthrow the Parliament in the wake of the Miranda Broadwave and intended to use River Tam to achieve this objective.
- The crew of Serenity had made contact with a new fence named Leamonde who wanted them to take a job on Cataract.
- Badger had other ideas and kidnapped the crew, forcing Captain Reynolds to decide which one stayed in captivity (Inara). They were then sent to Dynasty to find a man named Newstead.
- Simon was forced to masquerade as a Companion so the ship could dock planetside, as Dynasty required all landing ships to have a Companion on-board.
- Inara escaped from Badger's clutches when the Alliance raided his "offices" and bought passage to Dynasty with another Firefly named Tantalus.

That's as far as I got before the BSR was tampered with and I lost the next few chapters. Given the response to the three I posted and the comments to OF A THOUSAND, there was som interest in the story, so here's what I had planned in terms of plots and sub-plots:
- Zoe would be having hallucinations of Wash who would be acting out of character. Zoe would approach Simon as she would be afraid she was forgetting Wash. Simon would help her to create a manifestation of Wash from her memories.
- Newstead would be dropped off on Persephone and sent to Badger, who managed to escape charge. He was a researcher into memories and would be an important part in Inara's subplot surrounding her phial of black liquid from the pilot. It would prevent aging and delay death, but at the cost of her memories. The diaries were not simply how-to guides, but her way of remember who she was.
- The crew would land on Cataract (named because there were frequent solar eclipses) and contact Jensen, the captain of the Luminesence. She would take them into the Lohengrin Carbine Mines, which produced the main ingredients in laser and carbine weapon charges. Their cargo was a consignment that was considered too impure ro be used in weapons and so was given a secondary function: it was used in the manufacture of Inara's drug.
- Leamonde and Jensen would be working together to stop the drug from being produced by Michael Cazslic and the Alliance's Special Projects Office (the people plotting the coup), who intended to use River to unearth evidence of Inara's drug and its connection to the Alliance. The people would then call a vote of no confidence and the Military Council would take control of the Parliament and continue the hunt for River Tam, believing she knew more secrets.
- It would be revealed that Jensen was the daughter of Cazslic shortly before he was killed. Cazslic, however, refused to recognise Jensen just as he passed away, leaving Jensen to question whether what she was doing was right all along. Her fate would be left in the balance in case I wanted to bring her back for another story (much like Han Solo getting himself frozen in carbonite; he could have been dead or alive).
- The final scene would have been Zoe talking with the Wash fabricated from her memories. He would ask her to destroy him as while he had no doubt she would remember him forever, he was afraid he would change too much if he was living on the ship the way he was. Zoe would agree and Wash's final lines (and the story's final lines) would be repeating hers from the deleted scene of the pilot: he never left Serenity, he simply learned to live there.

And that was about it. Unfortunately I won't be able to write it as I've forgotten a lot of the details of what happened in the middle. Still, I thought a few people might have been interested to know.
