There's an EXCELLENT mailing list for vidders, with all sorts of advice and resources, on yahoogroups. Most of my vidding friends use FinalCutPro or Premiere, but that's because the vids are ported out to video to be shown at conventions and such. From what I've seen of FinalCutPro? SHINY. And fairly easy to use, cone you figure out how to capture video...

If you're just putting them up on the web, and they're only meant to be viewed on computers, you can probably get by with using QuickTimePro to edit the video. But I'm not sure how to lay the music track...

There's a music vidding convention in Chicago in August, actually--I've vidded, but only VCR to VCR. I've never done digital vidding before, and I'm really looking forward to learning, once I can afford the hardware (my iMac doesn't have a capture card, and the Dazzle bridge can't cut it for captureing source over 240x320) and get the software loaded.

I HIGHLY reccomend Pinnicle Studio (version 7 or above) because I'm made entire MOVIES on it before and it is wonderful. You could also use Final Cut Pro, but that means longs, tedious, and pointless renderings.

TRAGICSTORY

Here is what I use:

Virtualdub for cutting up vids using huffyuv as a intermediate compressor.

Adobe Premiere for putting it all together and exporting it. I love premiere for all the cool things it can do. I only wish it was cheaper.

http://www.animemusicvideos.com has lots of guides on how to get started.

Quick tips:
you need TONS of hard drive space.

Print out the lyrics, sketch/draw/write the storyboard next to them.

Better quality input = better quality output
(If you can choose the 30MB file or the 300MB file as your starting material, go for the larger one, ripping it off a DVD is the best)

FINALLY: Its alot of work. up to 60 hours or more sometimes. Use the save button and walk away if it isn't doing what you want, then come back to it.

PS> having a good strong buzz while doing music vids REALLY makes it less work and more fun.

PPS> Dont use songs you really love because you will get SO SICK of it after hearing it over and over and over and over again.

I use Premiere, Virtual Dub and TMPGEnc.

Sometimes I use Goldwave if I want to clean up the audio track.

I've got 150 Gigs of hard drive space and an ATI 128 MB All in Wonder card. Video editing kicks the crap out of your computer's resources.

I also use VirtualDub and TMPGenc as well as PowerDirector.

Can anyone tell me the best way to clean up the crappy audio track in the 800meg H.O.G file I downloaded?
