I own a large format printer that I have lately been using to do very inexpensive prints for friends of Serenity/Firefly stuff (mostly fan-based stuff).

If anyone has any fan-based art they want duplicated in fairly decent quality (up to 3feet by 12feet), drop me a note -- I'm not charging any profit or anything, so costs are under 50 cents per square foot. If you do your own fan-based art, this would be a cool way to get that stuff out to your friends dirty cheap (like $6 for a 3'x4' poster).

I use an HP DesignJet 3800CP with UV/water-resistant inks. I can print any size up to 54"x1200" (yes, 4.5 feet by 100 feet)

I can do 15 3ft x 4ft prints on 32lb bond for $20 including shipping.

just wondering why you`d have such a large printer.......
i might try one on ya sometime, just to see the quality, i`m set to create not print so much....if you don`t mind that is, i do live in the UK though, which makes postage a wee bit more expensive.....

No, not a professional printer. I dedicated (most of) my life to providing free charitable media services for houses of worship, so I've been lucky to have a lot of hardware donated to me (in the hundreds of thousands of dollars range). Because of this, I am able to also provide printing services for side projects and pet projects and friends and family -- at a significant discount (as long as I replace the media and ink myself).

Next week we're getting some even better stuff donated -- like a aqueos coating laminator that is 55" wide and does amazing glossy UV-resistant waterproof coatings. Cool stuff.

I was really thrilled to hear you were considering selling your work. You are definately one of my all time favorite Firefly artists (and with the talent displayed here that is no mean feat!) I'm desperately job hunting at the moment but the second I have some spare cashy money I'm gonna be dropping you a line!

Krispee,

your work is beautiful! I'm just starting to dabble in painting, I usually stick to oil sticks.

I love the play of light on your work

You might also try posting at www.serenitystuff.com There is a "Submit Stuff" link on the right near the bottom. Your work is very good. I'm sure it will be popular.

I hope you know your copyright/trademark law very thoroughly or this could get extremely messy for you.

micjwelch: cheers, i`ll have a look at that.....

grizwald: well, i have asked around a lot over that and it isn`t an easy question to answer, no-one seems to have the same one anyway....as far as i can tell as long as you haven`t copied it exactly you are ok, and if you are only selling a few then they wouldn`t bother with you anyway, cost more than they`d get in return. if you are paiting parts and making something new from it then that`s ok as well, as far as....i have seen other artists paint these characters without submitting to Universal for copyright without a problem.....posting them on sites like these isn`t a problem at all either.
but it is a good question, one that i have wondered about, how far can you go, no-one seems to know....

Apparently you have not asked an attorney. Where money is involved, it would be wise to get a consultation with an attorney well versed in copyright/trademark law and check what you are going to do to save problems down the road. Asking people on the message boards is not going to do the job. What are you gonna do when you are standing in court someday, say, "Well, I asked around the message boards and everybody said it was okay, so..."?

I don't mean to be nasty, I'm trying to be realistic. It's not just Universal. Nathan Fillion owns his own face. Gina Torres owns her own face. You aren't supposed to sell their faces without their permission. Is this making sense?

Posting stuff in the Blue Sun Room is different; it's a violation, probably, but nobody cares since there is no money changing hands. But when you go to sell something, you step into territory where the chances of people/companies bothering to enforce their rights are much higher.

grizwald: ok, i hear you, but in that case this is probably not worth bothering about. i have better things to do with my talent than waste it looking into something that has only 1 of 2 possible outcomes: either the attorney/solicitor will tell me i can`t do it or he will tell me to contact the parties involved. then they will say yes, but pay me a royalty, or they will say no.
either way i won`t make any money.
i have a lot of other projects to invest with my time that have no copyright issues.....
