TRISTAN

Hello, all! I finally built a version of Zoe's coat that I am happy with. As with the Browncoat, this is not an exact replica...it is my interpretaion of Zoe's coat. This is the one seen in the flashback sequences of OOG....also in Safe and a few others.

Some details...
The coat pictured is made out of a cotton twill. After playing with several types of cloth, this gives the best "fall and flow". Including the lining (the coat is fully-lined), there are about 10-12 yards of cloth in these coats. They are heavy without being overwhelming. The model is my sister-in-law, and she is not a Browncoat...but she still loves the coat. She says it is very comfortable.
Alright, pictures and then we'll get to the pricing and sizing:

I can build the coats in full sizes (like 10-20+)...I'd need your bust, waist, hips, arm length, height, and from the nape of your neck to about mid-calf (for overall length). You can email these to me at tristan71@cableone.net

Pricing. I am asking $180.00 for these coats plus shipping. They take a lot of cloth and a little more than a week to build. Remember, I DO NOT accept any money before building you a coat. An email order is what I start with. I'll let you know when I start the coat, and then email you pictures of the finished coat before sending you a PayPal Money Request. For a shipping estimate, email me with your Zip Code. I work on a first-order, first-served policy...if there are orders ahead of you, I will let you know.

I think I covered anything. If y'all have any questions, feel free to post. I hope to sell a lot of these!

Thank you for looking!

Thank you, KelKhil! I am also trying to work on one of these for the guys...an Independent soldier coat, if you will. I really liked the way they looked, and am planning on bulding one of those costumes for next D*C, so I hope to have one of those rolled down the runway in the near future!

Hah, Tristan has my measurements so I'll have my ZoeCoat before you! Squee! So 'cited. It is lovely, lovely, lovely!

See, it looks a lot like a regular overcoat. I can wear it to work every day. Only I and Browncoats will know that it's really a ZoeCoat. I guess if I sew a 57th Brigade patch on the sleeve, I'll kind of blow that whole subtle thing, eh?

By all means, save for D*C! It is more important that you make it here.
It took about two weeks of tinkering to get it to the end product you see. Now that I have the pattern, it should only take about a week, all told.
Thanks, I will pass it on to her!

My curiosity and attention to not always so important stuff: is that a pocket on the back? Can you reach behind and grab a grenade if you wanted to?

TPage, yes, it is a pocket...I have no idea why it's there, or what it could be used for...although a grenade is a good idea!
No, when I started building this and posting the first pics, someone (not sure they want to be named ) asked if I was going to put the pocket on the back...to make a long story short, I had to go frame-by-frame on OOG to look for a pocket...and it turns out I had been looking in the wrong place! I was looking around the waist... So, there is a pocket in the middle of the back...for what, I don't know.

How close are you to starting (i.e. have you finished the Kaylee jackets for people unknown to me)? I've been making my SQUEE of uncontrollable, excited glee for some time now.

My ZoeCoat is coming. My ZoeCoat is coming.

The beauty is that it looks like a regular overcoat and I can wear it everywhere. Only I will know that it is a symbol of my unwavering holding. Well, me and all the people that I blab to.

Shotgun? That seems a little impractical to me, not the shape or well anything that would fit a shotgun. Not to mention the fact that Zoë normally wears the shotgun on her thigh.

If nothing else, contrary to the movies and the 'cool' factor, drawing a shotgun from behind your back would take much longer to draw and shoot (believe it or not it is easier to bring a weapon up than down; our muscles are used to pulling things up, whereas pulling them down isn't) which would in turn affect accuracy.

Methinks Zoë would want to be able to draw fast and accurately, especially with the military background.

Hell's Kitten....you always make sense! The pocket...from what I can tell from the photos, and what I built, is stitched on three sides...so no shotgun, I would imagine. I really have no idea. I am just putting it there because...well...it's there in the series.

TPage, I am trying to remember when Zoe wore a shotgun on her person...I know about the Mare's Leg, and she has carried a shotgun, but not in a holster that I can remember...

My apologies, there is a good chance I am wrong. I am far from access to Firefly right now. Going on memory and I have this image of Zoë wearing her holster (I know she did at least once or not if I'm wrong ), and obviously that has stuck.

At any rate: grenades fit!

SHAMELESS

This is incredible! Do you make anything else? And anything less expensive, say, that Kaylee or River wears? I'm hoping for less than $75, but I understand that most handmade clothing of decent quality is pricey (you shop around for ren faire gear and garb, you learn verrrry quickly that it's ten times cheaper to make it yourself - unless it's a bodice. Because that would require massive skills)... But beautiful coat, I'm sorry that I can't afford that!!!

Edit: Silly Shameless must learn to look at other threads that may answer her questions. Was thinking more about her usual attire, though... her jumpsuit/pink shirt, y'know? How much do you think the pink shirt would cost?

------------------------------------------
RPG launcher bought in third world country illegally - $10
Landmines - $50 per
Attack/track dogs bred 1st class - $250-500 per
Highpowered assault rifles - $600 per
The look on your face when I show up on your doorstep with a bigfoot - ... Priceless

Shameless, thank you for the compliment!
Right now, I build a leather Browncoat, the Zoe coat, and a Kaylee jacket. I am also going to be working on the coat and vest of the Independent Soldier, and I am hoping that coat will end up being very inexpensive. I know the vest will be! I did not have any intention on building shirts or such, but I have built a Kaylee jumpsuit before.

Zeph, thank you, too!
The Zoe vest is still in the process of being "tweaked". I'll probably be getting back to it sometime in the middle or end of December. And I know what you mean about the common woe!

Howdy, AgentRusco!
Um...it's coming along slowly. I have built two so far, and both had minor issues that needed fixing...so, probably one more before I am ready to sell them. They are a pain in the buttocks to size properly, so I do not know how many I will build before I get frustrated and decide to quit. Unlike the other costume pieces I build, these things have to be built to a high measurement tolerance in order to look right.
I'll probably get back to the vest around the middle or end of December. Thanks for asking!
