TRISTAN

Hello, all! I spent the past few days building another Browncoat, and I'm here to offer it for sale. For those who don't know what's going on, check these links:
http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=13&t=22745
http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=13&t=22196

This coat is designed to fit me (6'1" tall, @200lbs, 44-46" chest), as I was the only model available at the time
I am asking $300.00 plus shipping. I am going to find out about shipping costs this week. If you are interested, PM em with your city and state/country and I can give you an estimate on shipping. This coat is ready for a home!

I am still open to taking orders for these, so again, PM me or contact me at tristan71@cableone.net. I have a few orders already, but can still take several more before I get bogged down. DragonCon is not all that far away!

I apologize for the length of time this takes to load, but I wanted to put as many pictures here as I could. If you need more, let me know!

Morning, all!
I received an email about this coat yesterday, so it may not be available anymore, but I can still make these per order. All I need are measurements and about two weeks. Then you, too, can have your very own Browncoat (interpretation, of course!). If you are interested, please let me know.

The wife will be taking a boxed Browncoat down to UPS today to get it weighed. By tonight or early tomorrow, I will be able to give estimates on shipping costs.
If anyone is interested, please drop me a line tristan71@cableone.net

Ok, the wife has been to UPS, and I can now figure out shipping costs using a zip code. If you were waiting to hear about the shipping costs before showing interest, please email me at tristan71@cableone.net and I can give you the total cost of a Browncoat.

I have not heard from the original emailer, so I am going to assume they are no longer interested. This coat is still on the market. A rough estimate for shipping from UPS (in the Continental US) is @$20.00 for Ground and @$50-$60 for 2nd Day Air. With a Zip Code, I can give more specific shipping fees.
Thank you!

Hi Tristan. Wonder if you could maybe find some fake suede and make some browncoats for about half this cost. Would getcha a lot more orders, probably. Just a thought from a frugal-minded chatter.

ItsaWash, thanks for the input. The reason I decided to build one out of leather was that Mal's coat is leather (deerskin, actually, but that is cost prohibitive). The few that I found already out there were quite a bit more expensive than the one I built. There are a few places out there that offer the fake suede versions, but I am an authenti-crat when it comes to this coat...while I may not be making an exact replica (I do not think that would be legal), I think mine is a pretty good interpretation of the Browncoat. And having it made out of leather gives it a closer look and feel to the original. I built the original Browncoat for myself because I could not afford the $500 or $1200 the other places are charging. I discovered they are not too terribly difficult to build, so I got the idea to offer a less-expensive, more "authentic" looking coat to the Browncoat world. I found a sketchy source for leather, bought what I could, and offered my version to the world. I know that $300.00 is a pretty chunk of cashy money, but had there been a coat like this out there for that price, I probably would have bought it before I built my own.
Thank you for the idea, though...I may start tinkering with a cloth version sometime in the future...assuming I can't find a less expensive source for leather!

UPDATE
This coat is still up for sale. $300.00 plus shipping (which is something like $20-30 by UPS Ground in the US). DragonCon is not all that far away for those of you going...and for those of you not going, this is still a shiny coat!

Email me for details or if you are interested:
tristan71@cableone.net

I am also taking orders to custom-make these coats to your measurements. Price is the same, and it takes about two weeks to build one. All I need are your measurements, and you can have a custom-built Browncoat of your very own!

Ok, this does not seem to be going as I imagined it would. I am to the point where I will entertain offers on this coat until Thursday. If I get nothing, I will take it to D*C with me and sell it there. If you are interested, please email me: tristan71@cableone.net
Thanks!

I can still take orders for these; price is still $300.00 plus shipping. I am not sure if I can get another one done before D*C, but there are always other days you'll find yourself needing one of these!

Thanks for looking!

Alright, last constructed Browncoat will be winging it's way to it's new home come tomorrow. I am still taking orders for these, but it will be after DragonCon before I can get any built. I will also take orders at DragonCon, too. WickedWren has been nice enough to offer me space for business cards on the Browncoat table there, so if you are interested, please take one! I *should* have one more constructed Browncoat by then that will be for sale...so, find me at DragonCon!

My email is still tristan71@cableone.net

Dear Tristan,

I'm really, really tempted. I was searching in the net for a Browncoat, and as you said, they start around 500 $. And I like the leather idea. I think 300 $ is not too much for a real leather coat, even if it's not tailormade and fireflyrelated.

Having this said, 300$ is still some money, so I'm still thinking about it. While Im thinking ... could you tell me, which data you would need from me, to make a coat in my size, and how much the shipping to Germany would cost? Oh, and since import tax will rise in Germany as from January 1, do you think you could make one still within this year?

UrG!!!
Interested but unemployed.
Once I have a steady job and enough cashy money for one of these I will definatly contact you. This coat will have it's own savings jar.

Quick question, would you be able to alter the cut ever so slightly for a woman? Not too much, just a little shape around the waist or some such. Military uniforms have different cut coats for the women's versions and I like me curves.

Just a thought. And not a very valid one either since I can't afford one of these coats right now anyway.

Esther,
Thank you for your interest. I actually do tailor-make these coats. I use your measurements to build the coat. As far as shipping to Germany, I am not entirely sure off-hand. I just shipped one to Great Britain, and the cost for that was $78.00. And yes, I could probably get one built before the end of the year! They take one to two weeks to construct.

Kayna,
I believe I could build one of these with a more "feminine" cut...it would take a bit of experimentation on my side before I was able to create a solid pattern, but it is one of the things I plan on looking into when I return from DragonCon.

Alright, all! The response to these coats has been overwhelming so far. I want to thank all of you who have ordered one (and those who have received them), and are bearing with me in regards to waiting until DragonCon is over before I start. I can still take orders for these, as they do not take all that long to build...it's just a matter of what happens in the "real world"! I will have my own coat at DragonCon, and one extra for sale, so if you are the type of person that needs to see something before you order one (I'm that way, too!), you'll have a chance to see and touch the coat in person. Just find me, I'll be more than happy to show it off (and sell the one I have!)
Once DragonCon is over, I will be back to making as many of these as I have orders for. Just to be sure everyone knows, I build these to your measurements...they aren't generic small, medium, and large; they are made to fit the individual. I'll try to get a measurement requirement chart made so y'all can see what I need.
I have also been asked to make a more feminine version of the Browncoat, so I will be experimenting with that, as well...cut diferently to show off the curves more. I'll let you know how that goes, too. I may also attempt the Zoe vest, as well...it's leather, seems like it wouldn't be too hard (famous last words...)

Again, a big thank you to all of you for looking, commenting, and sometimes buying my coats. I am pleased that I created something shiny for our 'verse!

Direct email is tristan71@cableone.net

Hopefully, byt he time you have a working pattern for the women's coat I'll have some cash and can buy one.

I'm glad this seems to be working out for you. Become a wealthy maker of Browncoats and other costumy things (as you are obviously so talentede at it) and help finance a BDS

And I have to say it out loud. That coat is so awesome!! You rock for making these available to the rest of us costume impaired 'coats.

I'm hoping that the modifications won't be all that difficult and will still retain the look of the Browncoat...we shall see!
I appreciate your comment. I'm happy to have been able to create something that other Browncoats think looks good. I hope to continue doing so for a long time, and expanding the costume pieces I am able to offer.

Thank you again!

Hmmm, that is an incredibly nice coat! I like the all-leather idea too! Am waiting to see how the women's version turns out (I like my curves, too...) and I finish dropping some weight and then....my very own brown coat...!!!
