Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

"Trump Supporters Boo the Constitution as Trump Cheers Them On"

"Protesters holding up pocket-sized U.S. Constitutions in reference to Khzir Khan’s speech at the Democratic National Convention were viciously booed by Trump supporters Thursday."

subject: protesters
verb: were booed (ie protesters were booed, not the Constitution, just to be clear)
adverb: viciously (How do you 'viciously' boo?)

ETA: I hope you don't think I'm defending Trump. But I see you - not anyone personally, the plural you - being manipulated like children by vested interests and nonsensical adverbs. Was anybody in a fluster because of this? viciously booed

Hey, here's some booing

and some more booing

IT'S JUST BOOING! Common, ordinary, everyday, booing. Surely you've done it yourself!

Let me just point out that the author left out vital relevant facts in the opinion piece. Doing that is known as cherry-picking. And whether you do that in the news, in discussion, in debate or in opinion, when you distort the facts, you've changed the nature of your communication into propaganda. But WE don't have any of THAT in the US, do we?!

You're going to compare Booing at a sports event to Booing the very fabric of our union. Yeah, it figures. Delegitimize the president and our core values, it follows. Gestapo spank otherwise.

It's just Booing, it happens....nothing to see here, move along.

They are disrespecting the very thing that gave them Trump the Liberator, Trump the Compassionate, Trump the King of All. One man, and one man only can fix it. Who needs the very document, nay, the very thing that built and propelled this country into greatness......Democracy.

I agree, it's messy and loud, but ultimately it's uplifting and positive. One is forced to defend it, the real democracy and not this sham. Imagine, for a moment, any of those who fought against British rule, or who crossed with Washington into Valley Forge seeing this spectacle. It's like spitting on the flag. Real patriots would have shot anyone Booing. Ask my in-laws, who proudly served, and you would get a response.

And btw, the PEOPLE were being booed, not the Constitution, as the article makes very clear, and despite EC's misleading thread title.

That OTHER PEOPLE, EVEN DEMOCRATS, BOO doesn't make Trump a good guy - he's got other things to answer for - but the booing doesn't make him the devil incarnate, either. IT'S JUST BOOING.

You are right as usual. Just Booing.

They were only Booing the people, not the document. Right. When I made that
statement it was to illustrate a point. That document is a symbol, like the flag, and represents all of the supposed freedoms that we enjoy - like the
much-mentioned 2d Amendment.

Let's say a protestor shows up at a Clinton rally holding up a poster with the 2d Amendment written on it, and the crowd Boos. Do you think that people
will say..........."Listen, they're just Booing the person and not the
"Right of the People to Bear Arms." I dare say that it would be interpreted
in a negative manner.

The Constitution is the law of the land. What Trump represents is that that
law does not apply to him or his followers: Banning people based on religion, censoring the press, etc. Yet, the very fact that they have assembled to cheer on their candidate is protected by the "laws" within
that document. Khan correctly stated that the "equal protection" clause applies to all Americans. Even to those "booing," who are rightfully exercising their right to protest; as were those who held up the pocket
document. But the perception was that they were booing the very symbol of
freedom that allows them to "protest" in such a manner.

Basically they were both right. Each group had the right to do as they did.
The protesters left peacefully, no harm, no foul.

Sometimes you have to hash out an argument to learn something.

Not to worry, my grip is fine.

P.S. As far as Trump being the Devil incarnate, the jury's still out.

Personally, I would assume the person was being booed. And if I were to boo, it would be directed at a person, or people. Booing is social shaming. You can't socially shame an inanimate object. /ETA: look at it this way. if the 2nd amendment was tacked on a wall, or even displayed on a large sign, or highly visible screen with no one nearby - would people boo it?/

Though honestly, you'd be within your rights if you did boo an inanimate object, if you draw an analogy to flag-burning. Come to think of it, if people were to BURN copies of the Constitution, then I'd say they were protesting the Constitution.

Yanno, I'm just trying to point out how overly heated the rhetoric has been. Its become so symbolic - and so disconnected from what is possible in the real world - that I think important topics are going unaddressed.

Riiiiiiiight - they were booing *the people*.

What were those people doing to get booed? They were holding up the U.S. Constitution. And not speaking at all. They silently held up the Constitution, and the crowd went wild booing them and then they were kicked out. Y'know - for being *people* - the kind of people who think we should live under a constitution.

Only a fucking moron would fail to understand that, kiki.

Look at it this way. if the Constitution was tacked on a wall, or even displayed on a large sign, or highly visible screen with no one nearby - would people boo it? So, was THE CONSTITUTION being booed, according to the way you misrepresented the article? ? Now that you've speculated motives I expect you'll disavow the topic when challenged on it.
