CLAMART, France (AP) - A gravely ill Yasser Arafat reportedly slipped into a coma and anxious Palestinian officials held an emergency meeting Thursday on how to prevent unrest while their 75-year-old leader was fighting for his life.

A swirl of reports that Arafat died were quashed by doctors at a French military hospital, who said he was alive. Arafat's aides, however, said his condition was very serious.

The reaction chain of the Palestinians, the Israelis, and the Middle-east as a whole makes me worry. Things could really get ugly. I hope that cooler heads will prevail throughout.

Damnit. We really didn't need this right now on top of everything else.

Not many cool heads over there. But I hope also.

Well, maybe this will cause the world to REALLY get involved over there. The Palestinians who are not in the extremist pockets are in deep shit right now. The power struggle is about to get ugly real fast. It's a shame that Yasser was so terrified of his own political machine, that he didn't dare name a successor.

I have a feeling Israel is going to sit back and let the bloodshed begin.

Odd, I've just been on the bbc news site bbc.co.uk/news and apparently they're saying that an Isreali News station is reporting that Arafat is dead. However, the Paris hospital has not confirmed this. His own doctor is saying he's not "clinically dead". Don't know what to think about it, but it is very worrying indeed.
