Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

In any case, second, since you did NOT object to the American ideal that EVERYONE is entitled to the same justice - I'm going to assume that you agree that bill and hillary should not be exempt because of their positions of power, nor should Trump be targeted for political reasons.

Am I correct?

Let me just point out that the author left out vital relevant facts in the opinion piece. Doing that is known as cherry-picking. And whether you do that in the news, in discussion, in debate or in opinion, when you distort the facts, you've changed the nature of your communication into propaganda. But WE don't have any of THAT in the US, do we?!

Yanno, it's funny. When I ask you for YOUR (plural) opinions and YOUR (plural) reasons, I hear *crickets*. Nobody can seem to explain why they have the opinions that they do. Instead, they either troll, or they post what someone else wrote. Hmmm...

You don't know anything about the US or law or American politics, do you? Impeach means the same as indict. A legislature impeaches, a grand jury indicts. And do you know what follows after that? A trial with the legislature deciding guilt or innocence, just like there are trials with juries deciding guilt or innocence. Bill Clinton had a trial and was acquitted. That does not mean he was as innocent as child. It means there was not enough votes in the Senate to convict him of a crime.

As usual, you are not correct. Trump is a lecher. That is why anybody who is not his friend is disparaging him. He made himself into a target for rotten tomatoes. An example of someone who did the same is Bill Cosby, who worked even harder than Trump, and for more years, to ruin his own reputation.

I feel the need for a cartoon to close this day. Interpret it as you please.

First, you have to determine that what is ALLEGED actually happened. Women do not deserve to be disbelieved nor do they deserve to be believed. No evidence as far as I can tell. Politically-motivated hack-job a distinct possibility. 24-7 media circus and an easily manipulated public makes for poor judgment on your part.

I'm not nice like you, Signym. I really don't care to follow your simple and very sweet philosophy of life. Since I do not have the powers to convict Trump or Bill Cosby and jail or penalize them, my philosophy is that I have no obligation to be fair to them.

The people who should be fair to Trump or Cosby are those who know them as part of their duties: Trump's lawyers, the court room judges that decide Trump's (or Cosby's) fate. On the other hand, the lawyers opposing Trump (or Crosby) have no obligation to be fair to these guys. They don't even have any obligation to not hurt Trump's (or Cosby's) feelings, either.

I should add that Republicans voters and Congress felt no need to be considerate of Bill Clinton's reputation and feelings during his trial in the Senate or during the impeachment proceedings before that or during the special prosecutor's investigation before that. They said whatever they wanted and they (including Trump) never stopped saying the same after Bill Clinton was NOT convicted. That is how America works and that is why Trump is now in trouble about his sexual assaults. He is being treated no worse than Trump treated Bill Clinton.

I believe Trump's campaign went off the rails because of Trump's new campaign C.E.O. Steve Bannon:

www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/steve-bannons-vision-for-the-trump-co
alition-after-election-day

It took someone smarter and more cynical than Trump to distill Trump’s platform of protectionism, closed borders, and white identity politics into one message about a global conspiracy. The man behind this new message is Steve Bannon, who became the C.E.O. of the Trump campaign in August. Bannon is on leave from Breitbart, the right-wing news site where he served as executive chairman, and where he honed a view of international politics that Trump now parrots.

Bannon is new to right-wing rabble-rousing. Bannon went to the Harvard Business School and became wealthy as a mergers-and-acquisition deal-maker for Goldman Sachs, in the nineteen-eighties. He made a fortune by buying a share of the royalties for “Seinfeld” back in 1993, and receives them to this day.

Bannon met Andrew Breitbart, the founder of the news Web site, when Bannon was financing conservative documentaries in Los Angeles in the aughts. Breitbart, who previously worked with the Drudge Report, started Breitbart in 2005 as a conservative news aggregator, much like his former employer. In the fall of 2009, Bannon and Breitbart worked together on a business plan to launch a more ambitious version of the site, and Bannon joined its board in 2011, once the financing deal closed. When Andrew Breitbart died, in 2012, Bannon became executive chairman and took over the site. Back then Breitbart was a pugnacious but still recognizably conservative site, but, with Bannon in charge, its politics started to change.

Bannon embraced the growing populist movement in America, including the “alt-right,” a new term for white nationalists, who care little about traditional conservative economic ideas and instead stress the need to preserve America’s European heritage and keep out non-whites and non-Christians. Under Bannon, Breitbart promoted similar movements in Europe, including the United Kingdom Independence Party, the National Front in France, Alternative for Germany, and the Freedom Party in the Netherlands. Bannon likes to say that his goal is “to build a global, center-right, populist, anti-establishment news site.” After the election is over, Breitbart, which has offices in London and Rome, plans to open up new bureaus in France and Germany.

This ambition extends to supporting the election of right-wing candidates. In 2013, Bannon encouraged Senator Jeff Sessions, of Alabama, who led the opposition to immigration reform, to run for President, but Sessions declined to enter the race. Bannon went on to attend early candidate forums, where he noticed that, while most Republicans stuck to the Party’s small-government message, Trump was hitting the protectionist themes that proved popular at Breitbart and on the European right.

In early 2015, Breitbart tilted toward Cruz, but after Trump entered the race that summer, with a sharper anti-immigrant message, Breitbart evolved into an unofficial arm of the Trump campaign. “Donald Trump: Candidate for Our Age” and “20 Reasons Why It Should Be Donald Trump in 2016” were typical headlines. When Trump fired his campaign director, Paul Manafort, in mid-August, he made Kellyanne Conway, a Republican pollster, his new campaign manager, and named Bannon his campaign C.E.O.

The role of Trump being Bannon's boss will soon be reversed. Trump will probably be working for Bannon after the election, depending. If Trump is too toxic, Bannon will not need Trump's services for Breitbart's media empire. I don't think Trump's show The Apprentice will be back. Trump needs a new network and show if he wants to be on TV after the election. Trump will be like Bill Cosby, who can't find a venue for his standup comedy act because of his personal problems.

Clinton was not charged with being a predator of women as Trump admitted to being on the tape. Clinton lied under oath about having sex with a consenting adult; period. The republicans turned the White Water investigation into a witch hunt. And by the way, one of the lead republican investigators of White Water has stated he is voting for Hillary. Because the Republicans did a hack job on Clinton their approval ratings dropped. Clintons went from 63% to 73%.

Clinton and Trump are apples and oranges. Again you show you have no grasp of history and the facts.

"The president provided perjurious, false and misleading testimony to the grand jury regarding the Paula Jones case and his relationship with Monica Lewinsky.

The president obstructed justice in an effort to delay, impede, cover up and conceal the existence of evidence related to the Jones case.

In the wake of the House of Representatives' approval of two articles of impeachment, Bill Clinton's approval rating has jumped 10 points to 73 percent, the latest CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll shows.

At the same time, the number of Americans with an unfavorable view of the Republican Party has jumped 10 points; less than a third of the country now has a favorable view of the GOP."

Good, good SIG. Then you will understand when I say you are the one perpetrating a double standard. Trump admitted in his own words he did these things to women. Clinton did not. Therefore Clintons accusers are just that, accusers.

Why does your mind block you from understanding Trump has admitted he does this? Innocent until proven guilty SIG. Unless of course you admit your guilt.

I have an idea. Why don't you post Clinton admitting he sexually assaulted women as Trump has. Then will can agree with you when you claim there is a double standard being applied between Trump and Clinton.

Wrong - That's not a double standard - it's a false equivalency.
Wrong - I'm not convicting him, I'm willing to NOT vote for him based on that (and many other things).
You just showed a demonstrable lack of intelligence.

You're willing to assume that Trump did the things he's accused of, based on... accusations. But you're unwilling to assume that's true of anybody else. I can only verify that Trump said what he said.

That's a consistent pattern with you. You go on what "somebody said". Saddam has WMD. Qaddafi is massacring his people. Assad gassed Ghouta. Noriega is a drug runner. Iran is building nuclear weapons. Russia invaded Ukraine. Russia destroyed the UN convoy.

It's not possible to do these things without leaving verifiable and widespread evidence .... how many times have I asked you for evidence? I've even pointed out what kinds would be useful ... trace compounds in Sarin indicating its manufacture. Pieces of warhead which would reveal alloys. Convoy trucks with missile damage - bent frames, blown-off pieces, craters and damage to surrounding objects. Something other than smudgy photos of nondescript buildings in a desert, and vials of fake white powder.

Quote:

DOUBLE STANDARD: A double standard may take the form of an instance in which certain concepts (often, for example, a word, phrase, social norm, or rule) are perceived as acceptable to be applied by one group of people, but are considered unacceptable—taboo—when applied by another group.
That's what you do. Often.

No need SIG because you continue to misrepresent the truth. Instead I'll answer you with this.

THE VILLAGES, Fla. — Lifelong Republican Linda Fogg pauses sometimes while explaining how she became a Hillary Clinton supporter.

A proud Texan and former docent at the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum in Dallas, Fogg has never voted for a Democrat for president. But there she was last week on the porch of a Panera Bread restaurant in one of Florida’s reddest communities sporting a “Republicans for Hillary” T-shirt — and inviting passers-by to join her club.

You can carry on with that line of thinking until Election 2020, but while we wait for voting to end, some advance thoughts on post-election punditry:

It's already obvious that pundits will dismiss Hillary's achievement. They'll claim that she only won because she had an insane opponent, and/or that she should have won by a bigger margin. But this will be all wrong. First of all, negative partisanship limits the potential margin of any candidate; most Rs vote R regardless. Beyond that, would a white male candidate have exposed Trump so thoroughly? I doubt it. Remember, he slid right by the Matt Lauer types.

The turning point came in 1st debate, when Hillary set him up, both by her presence and with the strategic cite of Alicia Machado. The point is that Trump didn't just happen to melt down, Hillary triggered his meltdown - and that required grace and steely resolve. Plus of course her gender. So there's a real case that Hillary was by far the best person to beat Trump, and bring GOP sickness into the open.

WAY back when, someone asked if anyone was going to get seriously depressed or unhinged if their candidate lost. At the time, my position was (and still is) 'anybody but hillary'. And at the time I replied that I was going to be neither seriously depressed nor unhinged if the election didn't go the way I wanted - but that I was going to get my 'I told you so' posts written ahead of time.

No, YOU should be prepared for a whole big lot of "I told you so" posts because you are a cowardly moron who will be proven demonstrably wrong. Hillary will win. 90% on that now. And you will be expected to answer for how wrong you are in your judgements.

Recall, my friends, all the horrible things that were "supposed" to happen in Obama's presidency, things like the end of the US as we know it and the destruction of the economy and no more guns and gas prices out of control, etc...

And here we are in 2016: Sigkik the attention starved troll is making dire predictions for Hillary's presidency. I tried to get the sigkik to stand up and own her/its predictions but the troll "can't be bothered to read my post" and take on the challenge. More likely she/it glanced at my challenge and bitched out exactly like the coward that her hero Drumph is...

Here it is Sigkik, if you have to intestinal fortitude to look:

I've been saying that for weeks. I even posted, quite a bit I might add, that posting about Trump was pointless since hillary WAS going to win.

I'm glad you finally agree with me about something. You're really late to the realization, but I suppose better late than never.

There are many, many problems with hillary.

She breaks countries and starts wars wherever she goes.

Right now, she and obama are drumming up war fever JUST TO WIN THE ELECTION. Never mind that it's not against some small hapless country full of brown people that most voters can't find on a map. No, hillary and obama are aiming at Russia, a fully capable nuclear equal. I wonder if they've considered that the Russian response to their war-mongering might be something they can't just turn off after the election. Do you suppose a 'Just kidding, Vlad !' will work?

hillary as a president would have zero power to keep her many, many empty promises. And she knows that, but it doesn't stop her from making them anyway, because people really are that gullible. So, why not? But even more than that, hillary herself doesn't believe them, as the leaked documents show. hillary is an empty husk of a person when it comes to integrity.

hillary is completely corrupt, mixing state power with personal gain, as the leaked emails about pay-to-play as Secy of State and her toadying speeches to GS show.

And there's the billary issue - co-abusers of women and children, equal, if not worse than anyone else on the campaign trail.

But the BIGGEST problem with hillary is her finger on the nuclear button. Having left Iraq, Libya, Ukraine and Syria in unfixable smoking ruins, and unable to admit or even understand that she was wrong, surrounded by her equally deluded neocons in the State Department, military and CIA who also think a nuclear war is winnable, deaf to warnings, she'd turn her attention toward Russia - with her bloated fat finger on the nuclear button and US policy to launch nuclear weapons FIRST in her waddling hip pocket. Given her unblemished history of failure, I can't imagine anything could possibly go wrong.

The Rs in Congress will continue their investigations of her crimes. And you will, too! You're even investigating crimes that have not yet happened! And already patting yourself on the back for your prescience.

Melania Trump defended her husband by telling CNN that Donald's "grab 'em by the pussy" remark was actually all Billy Bush's fault:

Melania Trump says her husband was "egged on" in the 2005 tape in which he made lewd comments about his own sexually aggressive behavior toward women...."And as you can see from the tape, the cameras were not on — it was only a mic. And I wonder if they even knew that the mic was on," she said, referring to Trump and NBC's "Access Hollywood" host Billy Bush.

She said they were engaged in "boy talk, and he was led on — like, egged on — from the host to say dirty and bad stuff."
www.cnn.com/2016/10/17/politics/melania-trump-interview/index.html

The cameras weren't on! So there's no telling what was really happening on that bus. It's funny, isn't it? I always figured Donald for the strong kind of guy who couldn't be pushed around by a muffinhead like Billy Bush, but lately I've begun to wonder if we ever really knew Billy.

Signym, it is almost Halloween and you're wearing a costume to hide that you're an ordinary Republican. Your list of questions are precisely the same as my Texas Republican neighbor, who hates Hillary. He predicts disaster on all fronts for America if Hillary is President. He also has not given up on Trump winning. That might be different from you.

Clinton is proposing a center-left agenda, an extension of the policies Obama was able to implement in his first two years, and it’s clear that Republicans believe all such policies are disasters. They believe Obama's foreign policy has been a disaster.

Does today’s America look like a disaster? No. We have many problems, but we’re hardly living in a miasma of despair. Leave government statistics (which almost half of Trump supporters completely distrust) on one side; Gallup finds that 80 percent of Americans are satisfied with their standard of living, up from 73 percent in 2008, and that 55 percent consider themselves to be “thriving,” up from 49 percent in 2008. And there are good reasons for those good feelings: recovery from the financial crisis was slower than it should have been, but unemployment is low, incomes surged last year, and thanks to Obamacare more Americans have health insurance than ever before.

What you don't understand, SECOND, is not that I'm criticizing Obama from the right, I'm criticizing Obama from the left. All of my criticisms of Obama is not that he's too far to the left, it's that he's too far to the RIGHT: Too beholden to the wealthy, to corporations, and to the neocons, which is why he has failed to create the change that this nation needs. No I didn't ask why you referred to a poll to decide "the truth". Even if I had, you still wouldn't have answered THAT question, because instead you (as usual) hid behind other people's opinions and other people's beliefs. ("It's the American way")

No, my question was "How does one know the truth" and what is the difference between "knowing" and "believing"? You mentioned that in the thread linked (below) as an important distinction between Dems and Repubs, and just like those who use the word "intelligence" without being able to actually define it (proving their lack of same) you have not been able to explain exactly what it is the Dems do that Repubs don't in terms of "knowing the truth".
