Trump can declassify all the transcripts of conversations between Russians and Trump's staff. That means it is up to TRUMP to clarify this. It is also up to TRUMP to punish the CIA. The CIA works for the White House and Trump can punish them. But there is a problem:

Donald Trump’s explanation for why he fired Michael Flynn makes no sense.

Trump is the void at the heart of the scandal.

Donald Trump still doesn’t seem to know exactly why he fired his national security adviser.

At his press conference, President Trump was asked essentially a two-part question about Flynn. First: “Did you direct Mike Flynn to discuss sanctions with the Russian ambassador?” And second: “Would you have fired him if this information hadn’t leaked out?”

Trump’s answer was very odd:

No, I fired him because of what he said to Mike Pence. He was doing his job and his counterparts, so it certainly would have been okay with me if he did it. I would have directed him to do it if I thought he wasn’t doing it. I didn’t direct him, but I would’ve directed him because that’s his job. And it came out that way, and, in all fairness, I watched Dr. Charles Krauthammer the other night saying he was doing his job, and I agreed with him. And since then, I’ve watched many other people say that. I didn’t direct him, but I would’ve directed him if he didn’t do it.

So according to Trump:

1. Trump did not direct Flynn to call Ambassador Sergey Kislyak and talk about sanctions, so there is no wrongdoing on Trump’s part.

2. But there was also nothing wrong with Flynn’s decision to call Kislyak and talk about sanctions, so there is no wrongdoing on Flynn’s part.

3. Flynn got fired not due to underlying misconduct, but because he told Vice President Pence he hadn’t discussed sanctions with Kislyak.

There are a bunch of different puzzling aspects to this.

First among them is the timing. Flynn wasn’t fired when Trump was told that Flynn had lied to Pence. Nor was Flynn fired when Pence found out that Flynn had lied to Pence. Rather, Flynn was fired a few hours after the Washington Post told the public that Trump had been told weeks earlier that Flynn had lied to Pence.

The second is the question of why Flynn would have misled Pence about this if there was nothing wrong with what he did. Normally people don’t lie to their colleagues for no reason.

Last but by no means least: If, as Trump says, he would have directed Flynn to discuss sanctions with Kislyak, why was it that the administration spent weeks insisting that there had been no such discussion? Trump’s position seems to be that his team believed Flynn had been doing the wrong thing (not talking to Kislyak about sanctions) but then it turned out that in fact Flynn had done the right thing (talking to Kislyak about sanctions), but the revelation that Flynn had done the right thing caused him to be fired because Flynn had falsely told them he’d done the wrong thing.

That’s crazy. Especially in an administration that is not exactly known for placing a high premium on strict factual accuracy, that can’t possibly be the reason Flynn was cashiered.

Seriously, if Russians hacked the election, and were able to do so, this country is so screwed it's no longer a country. Why stop at president? Why not replace all the govt offices in America. There used to be more foreigners, and more people. Ideally, we'd be well situated if Firefly were reinstated, but actually this comes up 16th on a search for firefly, and it's an extinct TV show from days of yore.

I learned a lot here too, until the Obama years when it devolved into shouting down the people who didn't supporter him. It was a group of like three people, or possibly sockpuppets, but they were on every thread. I know a lot of people left then.

You bring up a lot of names I miss having in here. We did hear from Frem about 3 months ago. I think he just decided that family was more important. I haven't seen a post from Geezer in a really long time.

I actually mentioned a lot of what you just said in that conversation. I said that I witnessed the change in people the longer they hung out in the RWED and that overall it wasn't a very good way of spending your time. I also mentioned that though I was sure the show being so old had something to do with it, I think the constant attacking with each other pushed a lot of people out.

It's not just the RWED though. It's just social media in general. People who know and even love each other talk to each other in ways they'd never talk to each other in real life on facebook and twitter. My brother was just telling me last night how his best friend and his friends father are no longer talking after arguments they had about the election. But then he went on to tell me about arguments he was having with old high school friends currently and all I could do was tell him that he's got to get off facebook before those relations implode.

The world is emulating the RWED now, for sure. I blame the internet entirely for that. People just don't know how to behave themselves. It's one thing to blow up on some random relatively anonymous person in a forum like the RWED, but when people are typing in front of a screen they tend to forget that the person they're yelling at or insulting is actually an important part of their life and things are said that they cannot take back.

Sorry to hear about your Sister. I've had my share of cancer related deaths of late myself. :(

I hope you hang around a bit. The RWED hasn't really changed much since you left, except for there are less of us here now. It's been cool seeing you and Byte and a few other old faces pop in here and then. Maybe we can lower the toxicity levels just enough that some more might pop up?

Now that's a really good question. We can start by explaining how come white people have so much cargo. I saw the documentary talked about below in quotes while I was at school. So I knew to look for it now.

We need to stop preaching that only White people have cargo ( industrialized goods and power ), and that they won't share it. That they even block the rest from getting it. That's the message of the democrats. The message of the republicans is, we worked for it and you didn't. Both are bullshit. Most have no idea that geography played a major role in who was able gain cargo and why. Of course it's more complicated then that but location played a major role. You should see if you can't find the documentary.
