I'm good T. Still joking here.

Had to stop watching so much InfoWars before the election when my brother told me that Alex Jones was the guy he got a lot of his Niberoo conspiracy crap from.

Alex Jones is special. I went to Bilderberg with him, he went up to a guy with an assault rifle, while two snipers had sites on him and Alex called them nazis to their faces. The guy has balls, but is on a whole nutter level of butter cookie.

Mysterious "Ghost Yacht" off of Australia's Coast

In 2007, an unmanned yacht was discovered drifting off the coast of Australia. The engine and a laptop were running, the radio and GPS were working and a meal was set to eat, but the three-man crew were not on board.

Spooky.

Abandoned yatch story above: I'll guess pirates.

wikipedia
"Marie Curie, the first woman to receive a Nobel Prize in 1903 (physics), went on
to become a double Nobel Prize recipient in 1911 (chemistry)"

"An ancient Egyptian, Merit-Ptah (c.?2700 BC), described in an inscription as 'chief
physician', is the earliest known female scientist named in the history of science."

When I started Coffee - Cheers thread, I think I wanted it to be about fun stuff,
oddball stuff, true stuff we don't often talk about. Maybe ... I drink more tea than
coffee & more water than tea ... but "Water - Cheers!" doesn't have a ring to it.

Maybe they were slavers.

Possibly. I don't see any reason to draw the line at stealing a boat and a laptop if you're already into kidnapping and human trafficking on the high seas though.

Since we weren't there, we'll never know ... unless one of

Possibility: the Coast Guard was coming; it chased the pirates,
could not catch 'em. Later, couldn't find the yacht either.

How about 3 mates have a bit of a drink and get into a row and in the course of their drunken brawl they all tumble over board. Meanwhile the current takes the ship out of reach. I remember one of those "I Shouldn't be Alive" episodes where something very similar happened to a father and daughter while they were out scuba diving. Something happened to their rental boat and crew while they were diving and when they surfaced a while later... it was gone. That started their epic swim back to shore, sharks, jelly fish, etc. pretty amazing.

Great points G. Perhaps they all dove in before they realized they were in shark infested waters?

Anybody hear about what happened to part of the internet last night?

At around 3AM cst Google was down for about 20 minutes. After that fireflyfans was down for hours. Yahoo and Youtube and a few other sites I checked didn't have any problems during this time. Looks like we're back up now, but there's still problems.

I was getting warnings I'd never seen before during sign-in that the site was insecure from Firefox, hence the temporary new name with a throwaway email address. I would recommend changing any passwords to any other related accounts you have if they are the same as the one you used here.

"It just came to me."

An epiphany is an experience of sudden and striking realization.
Generally the term is used to describe scientific breakthrough,
religious or philosophical discoveries, but it can apply in any
situation.

a usually sudden manifestation or perception of
the essential nature or meaning of something

an intuitive grasp of reality through something
(as an event) usually simple and striking

an illuminating discovery, realization, or
disclosure : a revealing scene or moment.

Oonj:
One has an epiphany in a dream, during meditation, in a calm moment,
or maybe when they are drunk or loaded. One can't make it happen.
It's like a gift. When it happens, the truth of it is undeniable.

It's fast, but its billing continues after it's paid,
& when I surf certain money sites, it pops up on every click.

I've used Avast before. It's a great free anti-virus. My only issue with it is the hoops you have to jump through to keep it free after a year or so. I've used AVG Free for about 15 years and I have no complaints.

No Anti-virus will catch everything though. If you feel like you've made a mistake and something nasty is on your computer, download a free trial of Malware-bytes anti-malware and run that a few times along with your anti-virus scan and that will take care of 99% of the viruses out there.

It gets trickier after that, if you still have problems. If you have the free time and a bit of computer knowledge you can usually research the issue and either figure it out yourself or find a forum or two with people who are happy to help you out. This is the time when you have to ask yourself if it's worth your time, or if you should call up your niece or nephew who's a computer wiz or take it to the Geek Squad.

Back in the day I would just do a complete wipe of the hard drive and re-install Windows since it would never seem to properly recover after a bad virus attack. Windows has come a long way now though and shakes off the sickness pretty easily once you've pinpointed and removed it. Nobody should actually pay for an anti-virus program though with the great free options out there. This is especially true now that Windows 10 is free and worst case scenario you can just wipe the drive and re-install it.

Hope that helps.

Norton 365 is what I use. Norton doesn't crash or have issues like it used to. I had bit defender for a brief period of time. I dumped it before my subscription lapsed. And while Kaspersky is good, the Russian government has agents within. That means they have access to anyone they wish.

Linux has improved, but I use the mac for most things. I find the ultra-proprietary nature of it annoying.

I think what is needed is an eternal stable linux port capable of running extant software, or ports of them. Most stable linuxes end in .04, like Ubuntu 12.04, etc.

I think my problem with Linux is that it's too much like Mac OSx. I grew up with DOS/Win3.1 and was Windows all the way since then. I'm really familiar with Windows and even though it hasn't been built on top of DOS since XP it still functions very similar to the earlier Windows that did. If I were forced to learn Linux or Mac for a job it wouldn't take me all that long, but Windows is so prevalent that it's never been an issue.

I actually have been tinkering around with Ubuntu a bit now that you can do it in a virtual session with VirtualBox. I recently fixed a broken NAS unit with it. It needed a new hard drive and you had to write the first 32mb of the new drive with Linux code and it was not possible to do in Windows.

It's amazing what computers today are capable of doing, power wise. One of my favorite Tetris type games called Gemstorm had been unplayable for years because it was a Windows 3.1 release in the late 90's and Windows stopped supporting backwards comparability that far a long time ago. Using a program called DOSBox I was able to run DOS 6.0, install Windows 3.1 over it and run the game in the little virtual session. Good times :)

Yeah, I was playing Star Maze, an 8-bit Atari game I had for the 800 in a window on an emulator on the mac. You can put just about anything on a USB boot, also. The main thing about the windows security flaw is that you shouldn't surf the web on windows, particularly internet explorer. But it's easy enough to have a different config to browse the web on. I often have computers stackes side by side on my desk running all three OS's

I was dismayed to learn today that there was no separate Verizon 3g plan. I've been waiting to get data for my little Vaio P forever. It has Vista which is incredibly slow. I've just never adapted to post XP windows. I can't really upgrade because there are so many Viao P specific drivers. Mac deals with this by being fixed to the machine, linux is by far the best at automatically recognizing hardware, so you can put it on anything. It's far easier to put USB or dual boot windows on a mac than to put OSX on a windows machine. I have dual boot on my macbook with mac/win bootcamp, and i'm thinking of dual booting the Vaio to be win/linux. I might make it my little pocket word processor.

There are a lot of 8 bit games to relive. I'm going to wait until I'm coding again so I can steal ideas.

You want any help with emulation, you're in luck. I'd want to talk about that mainly off the site though.

I'm actually planning on building an old school arcade machine from scratch in my garage this summer that will play a lot of old school arcades and console games. A $50 raspberry pi computer hooked up to it with a 128gb sd card would play loads of games and would have wi-fi connectivity to boot.

So I had what i think is a brilliant idea that I'm going to try out today. If I can get my ancient camera to work, I'll take pictures of the process to post if it actually turns out well.

I bought a spreader for fertilizer and seeds a few years back and didn't think to hang it up during the winter. I don't know what happened to it, but the tires were trashed. One actually managed to inflate again, but the other one was a lost cause.

It was a $75 unit that I got on a huge off season sale with a few coupons for under $30. To replace a single tire for it is $20!!!!

I bought myself a can of Great Stuff yesterday for $3. Gonna fill that SOB up and see what happens.

That's not a bad idea. A website, or arcade cabinets for small businesses like mine.

I got free time, a lot of ideas and a lot of skills. If you've got any work for me DT, I'm looking for a job

I found an old camera to take pics of the tire for that spreader, but I can't find the USB cable to get them off just yet. The idea worked though! At first it didn't because overnight the foam didn't really spread much. I read online that if you use Great Stuff in an enclosed area like this that you need to add water to it to get it to foam up. I didn't get the baking-soda-volcano effect that I was expecting, but when I went back an hour later the tire was full again.

So I was able to plug a few holes that needed plugging anyway and fix my spreader for free instead of having to pay 20 bucks for a new tire.

Stick with me guys. In this new economy I think we're all going to have to start figuring out how to make what we already have work for us instead of mindlessly putting replacements on our credit cards.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Coffee - Cheers!

Even though, as usual, I didn't get enough sleep, I got to enjoy the best part of the day, and it more than made up for it. It was a beautiful morning. The clouds were scattered in beautiful blue, and the ceiling was high, the air was a little cool and wonderfully fresh. A lot of the vegetation is greened up from the winter rains and the following sunshine. And I went to my local restaurant for my usual iced tea with lemon, where the people there know me and I get to say hi to them all - even the bus'boys'.

Now I'm at home, with pork, beef, and chicken slow-cooking in the oven. After I get off the computer I have some pleasant tasks lined up for the day.

And with any luck, this weekend I'll start some beautiful male ash trees, crape myrtle trees (with clear raspberry colored flowers), and privet (with dark-green silk-textured leaves and lots of blooms) from cuttings. Next weekend it'll be some more crape myrtles, one with white doubled flowers, and the other I call 'iced raspberry' (which is an accidental semi-double cross between the white and raspberry, and prominent bright yellow stamens), hollyleaf cherries, red berry, lemonade berry, coffeeberry, sugarbush, and pineapple guavas.

Coffee - Cheers!

Q: Is Google male or female?

A: Female, because it doesn't let you finish
a sentence before making a suggestion.

lol...

I wish I remember what comedian said it so I can find the segment they did on this.

He was complaining about the auto-fill based off of previous searches and how he got in trouble with his girlfriend because she was googling some apple product and as soon as she typed in the "A" for apple it filled it in with "Asian Anal Porn".

Thanks Google!
