There are various political quizes on the internet. I found a great one on Ontheissues.org that is really good at giving you a description of your personal political title.

Here it is...

http://www.ontheissues.org/quizeng/XPolitics/quiz_main.asp?Page=1&Clea
r=Y

I invite and ask everyone reading this to take that quiz and post the result of what their own political philosophy apparently is according to that site.

As expected mine was "Moderate Libertarian".

On the issues the quiz covers, looks like I'm a Moderate, slightly trending towards Liberal and Libertarian. I could live with that label.

Some interesting results from all of my friends. They all came up as either a type of Libertarian or a type of Conservative.

A couple were Hard-Core Conservative, a few were Hard-Core Libertarian, some more few were either Conservative-Leaning Libertarian or Libertarian-Leaning Conservative, one was Moderate Libertarian like myself, but everyone else was Moderate Libertarian Conservative.

Not one of my friends that took the test showed up as being liberal in any of its variations.

Maybe I should try and find some liberal friends to broaden my horizons.

I was curious so played with the test. Some answers gave results I don't think are reflective of how the test is 'supposed' to score. For example (all other answers being 'no opinion' - which is the easiest way to score right in the middle of moderate) support for reducing taxes on rich folks moved the dot to 'left liberal'. Hunh?

Rue,

I did the same test as you stated above, answer no opinion on everything except "reduce taxation on the rich" which I put in support.

It came back as 1 tick up towards Libertarian and 1 tick to the right towards conservative.
So 1 up and 1 right from dead center moderate.

It seems to work ok to me. Whats up?

Don't know what's up. I thought maybe the back and forth on the test messed up the pages, so I tried resetting EVERYTHING to no-opinion to re-establish 'moderate', which it did successfully, then changing ONE answer, which did move the dot, but not in ways I expected.

But I am having a hard time with this website at times as well, so maybe it's a computer-thing.

I didn't like that test because I couldn't argue my points.

For example: Abortion Is A Woman's Right. Yes, but in my opinion, it is also a man's.

Allow Churches To Provide Welfare Services: Churches actually have the greatest percentage of each dollar going towards the need instead of the administration. I agree with it because it is an established system that works. Church vs State doesn't influence my decision here.

Reduce use of coal and oil as energy sources: I beleive we should be self-seficiant because I don't believe in sending money to the Middle East, not because I care about the enviornment, global warming or the fuzzy wuzzys.

The list goes on but you get my drift.

That sounds about right (esp. since I'm a frequent poster at http://libertariansforamerica.blogs.com ), but I feel like these questions are not quite right. Hmm, a Populist-Leaning Liberal. Yea, that's about right: "...means you believe in tolerance for different people and lifestyles." And "...means you believe that a good society is best achieved by the government redistributing wealth. You believe that government's purpose is to decide which programs are good for society, and how much should be spent on each program."

I came from a family from both sides of the coin and made up my own mind, btw.

Since this thread popped back up I decided to go and retake the test. And that reminded me of the problems I had with the test the first time I took it .

But, just for the record, here's my results:

Personal: 82%
Economic: 31%

So that puts me in the libertarian-leaning liberal category, which is a label I can live with.

I ended up putting "No Opinion" for eight of the questions (five of which were scored) simply because I thought the statement was poorly worded. For example, "Permit prayer in public schools": I think everyone should be able to pray at school (duh) - or, to rephrase, I don't think prayer should be outlawed at school - so that means I support this but I also think that no public employee should use their position to advocate for a particular denomination so that means I oppose this.

Yeah, I take some issue with the statement, "redistribute the wealth." Actually, I'm not so much for distributing wealth per se, but rather not abandoning the bottom half of the economic pool. If I understand correctly, when the government decides how to spend money, we really mean "we" decide. Er... I mean those of us who actually participate in government.

Throwing stones at a system is only useful if you're willing to fix the holes. Otherwise, you're just a vandal.

Also, the word "tolerance" implies some level of superiority, which I don't agree with. I don't tolerate different people, I respect them. Well, unless they voted for !

I also agree that some of the survey questions were poorly phrased. However, I do generally agree with the conclusion that I am a Moderate Liberal.

I'd like to see this test re-issued with slightly different questions, e.g. "Which is more objectionable: Violent Television Program or Television Progrem With Nudity?"

One of the things that I find puzzling about some of my so-called Conservative acquaintances is that they are squeamish about frank portrayals of sex - and freaked out that young people might be exposed to nudity, even in a non-sexual context! - but have no problem with depictions of bloodletting. Whereas, many of the peacenik liberals I've known consider uberviolent programming (including graphic depictions of war) to be the REAL pornography.

Wonder where libertarians fall?
