Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

I was waiting for a final report. The one that assigns blame. It seemed overdue.
But this is why it went under the radar, it wasn't carried by the msm.

Dutch ministry weighs options for MH17 prosecution
The assessment follows last year’s failure to secure United Nations approval for an international criminal tribunal after a veto by Russia’s representative on the UN Security Council.

I wonder if we'll hear anything from the ICC. The Dutch investigation is over. It's been 6 months since the Dutch announced they're looking into an alternate court.

At the time everyone was fixated on MH17. I just don't want this current disposition to go unnoticed.

Dutch ministry weighs options for MH17 prosecution

Various alternatives remain under consideration for pursuing a prosecution of those accused of bringing down Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 over Ukraine two years ago.

While a decision has not been made, Dutch security and justice minister Ard van der Steur has written to the lower house of the country’s parliament outlining two particular options.

The assessment follows last year’s failure to secure United Nations approval for an international criminal tribunal after a veto by Russia’s representative on the UN Security Council.

Van der Steur says one option is to focus on an international tribunal, in spite of the UN failure, while another is to consider a national prosecution in co-operation with one of the five states in the MH17 joint investigation team.

The ministry says both options are “complex” and involve legal hurdles.

Van der Steur says that the choice of the most effective prosecution and adjudication mechanism will be made once the investigation permits, and that the government is committed to having as many arrangements as possible in place ahead of this decision.

Among the legal considerations are the ease with which suspects might be transferred – noting the possibility of constitutional bans on extraditions – and the fact that suspects might be tried in absentia.

Van der Steur says the joint investigation team must be free to carry out its inquiries independently and “without political interference” in order to maximise the probability of a trial, acknowledging that this is a “long-term task”.

JIT: “there will be no public release of a final report on MH17 “

Today the spokesman of the Dutch prosecutor and JIT, Mr de Bruin, confirmed by email that JIT will not publish a final report which will be made public. Once the investigation has finished the results will be handed over to a court of justice.
Untill today there is no information about which court will perform the prosecution.

Russia vetoed the international criminal court because that's absurd. The plane flew into an announced no fly zone in a time of war, and no one knows who shot it down. What came next would be a blind witch hunt and call for war by someone against someone. I don't think anyone knows who it was. Russia of course claims it was Kiev, and Kiev claims it was Moscow. They're kinda like people on RWED.

A LOT of people on the board had already reached a definitive conclusion before all the facts were in - a case of 'first the hangin', then the trial'. I was hoping to see what the final report said, including the evidence that was included. (Evidence is an alien, unlearnable word to many - even today.)

This is a disappointment.

Well, if there is a trial, I'm sure a LOT of people here will then go on to presume guilt. Like they did with poor Milosevic, who was exonerated years after his death, while incarcerated in jail.

There will be no public release, but I'm sure there won't be any shortage of "respected sources who wish to remain anonymous" though.

RIVERLOVE

Reasonable and sane people know Russia did it because they saw the Russian trucks carrying Russian SAMs high-tailing it outta there once the deed was done. The only remaining question is was it done on purpose from proper military orders, or was it done by an overzealous Russian paramilitary thug acting on his own.

I missed 'em. You can bet that it was an accident, except for the part where some dunderhead launched a missile in the air.

Milosevic really died in the ICC jail during his trial. And was exonerated 10 years later. Most people presumed he was guilty, because, in a great example of circular reasoning, why else would he be in jail?

Nice summary, 1kiki, but seriously (and possibly intentionally) misleading.

ath_of_Milo.C5.A1evi.C4.87

Due to Miloševic's death during the trial, the court returned no verdict on the charges.

On 24 March 2016, the ICTY issued its judgement in the separate case against former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadžic, in which it concluded that insufficient evidence had been presented in that case to find that Slobodan Milosevic "agreed with the common plan" to create territories ethnically cleansed of non-Serbs during the Bosnian War of 1992 to 1995. The judgement noted "Miloševic's repeated criticism and disapproval of the policies and decisions made by [Karadžic] and the Bosnian Serb leadership" and, in a footnote, the "apparent discord between [Karadžic] and Miloševic" during which Miloševic "openly criticised Bosnian Serb leaders of committing 'crimes against humanity' and 'ethnic cleansing' and the war for their own purposes."

Nevertheless, the court also noted that "Miloševic provided assistance in the form of personnel, provisions, and arms to the Bosnian Serbs during the conflict".

There is a Russian connection, 1kiki: "Dutch toxicologist Donald Uges confirmed that the drug had been found in Miloševic's blood and suggested that he may have deliberately taken these drugs in order to get out of jail and seek medical treatment in Russia, where Miloševic's widow, Mirjana Markovic, and son, Marko, were still living in exile."

DREAMTROVE

I'm with Second. Mostly.

I've known a number of people who know/worked Slobadan Milosevic. All accounts I heard were that he was a genocidal loon, including from his allies, Serb nationalists. They said Milosevic's bloodlust was the reason they lost the war.

I'm going to say "gee ya think?" on the Russia connection, Serbia has been a Russian ally for a couple of centuries. Unfortunately for them, Russia was in a total collapse at the time, and a useless ally. It was the US that promoted and supported him in an effort to create a "greater serbia" echoes of our Yugoslav policy a centurt ago, in an effort to block German and France from sweeping it into the fledgling EU.

In defense of us, Franjo Tudjman, the German supported Croatian leader, was an actual Nazi, and every bit of the genocidal loon that Milosevic was.

Also, In 1998 we got disgusted with Milosevic and backed the young Al Qadea Mujahideen against him. They turned out to be genocidal loons as well.

It was an all around lose-lose. If anything, foreign powers increased the overall casualty count without influencing the agenda, simply by throwing weapons at the situation. Our most disgraceful part of it was using our faction of the UN peace keeping mission to sell Iranian arms to the Mujahidden, and Cheney & Clinton making a deal to build a pipeline through Herzegovnia for which the muslim militias killed 100,000 people.

And, Second, this is the sort of stuff that is impeachable. And he was impeached for it, by Larry Craig, and then the impeachment was candy coated by redefining it as about Monica Lewinksy, an auto-fail of Newt Gingrich construction (a Clinton pet republican.) Also something is very amiss with our nation that, while Clinton was impeached for it, Cheney was then allowed to become Vice President, and of course, not surprsingly, orchestrated the end of Larry Craig's career.

That said, I've seen nothing to indicate anything other than that Milosevic was a real son of a bitch.
