So, Syria. Some lies.

Nice. Unlikely. No administration runs that way, not ever this one. I think he's trying to give her credit so there won't be more complaints about her being there.

Obviously.

But it gets complicated. If it is a false flag, which I assume, then maybe the goal was to prevent the next attack anyway and pretend it was Assad. Remember how the gun control legislation failed and there were progressively worse shootings? all of which looked like false flags. The perps were treated like heroes instead of shot like they always are, there was no camera footage because the govt. stole the cameras. and the whole thing was only going on when there was a gun control bill up for a vote. Very suspicious.

Picture the same thing with deep state war machine.

Now Korea. Not sure how this will work, but I get the tactic: Make a business deal, then make a meaningless attack, and claim to have won a war. I don't know if that will fly.

Where do people think he's headed with this ?

Nowhere.

The attack instantly transformed news coverage of the Trump administration. Suddenly stories about infighting and dysfunction were replaced with screaming headlines about the president’s toughness and footage of Tomahawk launches.

But outside its effect on the news cycle, how much did the strike actually accomplish? A few hours after the attack, Syrian warplanes were taking off from the same airfield, and airstrikes resumed on the town where use of poison gas provoked Trump into action. No doubt the Assad forces took some real losses, but there’s no reason to believe that a one-time action will have any effect on the course of Syria’s civil war.

In fact, if last week’s action was the end of the story, the eventual effect may well be to strengthen the Assad regime — Look, they stood up to a superpower! — and weaken American credibility. To achieve any lasting result, Trump would have to get involved on a sustained basis in Syria.

Doing what, you ask? Well, that’s the big question — and Trump lacks good answers to that question.

You may recall how, a month and a half ago, pundits eagerly declared that Trump “became the president of the United States today” because he managed to read a speech off a teleprompter without going off script. Then he started tweeting again.

One might have expected that experience to serve as a lesson. But no: The U.S. fired off some missiles, and once again Trump “became president.” Aside from everything else, think about the incentives this creates. The Trump administration now knows that it can always crowd out reporting about its scandals and failures by bombing someone.

So here’s a hint: Real leadership means devising and carrying out sustained policies that make the world a better place. Publicity stunts may generate a few days of favorable media coverage for Trump, but they end up making America weaker, not stronger, because they show the world that we have a government that can’t follow through.

And has anyone seen a sign, any sign, that Trump is ready to provide real leadership in that sense? I haven’t.

I guess SIg is right, deep state's happy.

Nothing.

Of course, Assad has to go after the actual perp once Trump is done with the false narrative attack.

And of course, that's what it's really like. Even if some deep state troll told the terrorists to attack, Assad has actual terrorists in his country that he has to take care of, and can't worry too much about what makes Donald Trump look good or bad.

Six guys and an airplane or two.

That might be true.

Nah, it'll probably help. He's going to claim victory points all over and they'll give it to him. He might earn them if he takes out ISIS, but IDK if he will. Trump might get them from our media if Assad takes out ISIS.

There's been a curious development. For the first time, Assad has actual political opposition in Syria. The former Kurdish communist party has moved to a left-center multi-ethnic party, and is convincing former militia members to run for office.

Not necessarily. Assad's party could lose an election. That's never going to happen as long as Assad is fighting America, or Great Satan as we're known as in the Islamic world.

Oh, I expect a lot of showmanship. Like North Korea. He talked China into sanctions against North Korea (that's an actual victory for Trump) and now he's sending ships so he can have a pretending military victory, when Kim actually caves to the sanctions.

Not sure. We're had that definition of real leadership for the last 25 years, and it's been a disaster. Before that, we had a publicity stunt showmanship Reagan, and the results were excellent, so it's hard to say. It all depends on what happens economically, and sometimes that's just coincidental for a president. Usually, actually.

No, of course not, but a couple years of this and people will forget that they had ever opposed him.

I'll say this for him. He's not a braindead rabbit like George W Bush.

He's a con man, and this is a con. "Ivanka was heartbroken over the children and asked daddy to bomb the airfield." Another one, nice way to justify Ivanka's position in govt

I'm adopting a wait and see, still. As I said at the beginning, 18 months until I give Trumpism the thumbs up or thumbs down.

Trump's got no policy about Syria, other than do nothing starting with this interview:

www.foxbusiness.com/politics/2017/04/11/trump-exclusive-were-not-going
-into-syria.html

President Trump said he has no plans to enter Syria, despite ordering airstrikes on a Syrian military base last week.

“We’re not going into Syria,” Trump told Maria Bartiromo during an exclusive interview on FOX Business. “But when I see people using horrible, horrible chemical weapons… and see these beautiful kids that are dead in their father's arms, or you see kids gasping for life … when you see that, I immediately called General Mattis.”

“What I did should have been done by the Obama administration a long time before I did it,” said Trump. “I think Syria would be a lot better off right now than it has been.”

“If Russia didn’t go in and back this animal [Assad], you wouldn’t have a problem right now,” Trump said.

Maybe next week Trump will have another Syrian Epiphany triggered or catalyzed by another TV news show or conversation with heartbroken Ivanka, but for now he has no more ideas about Syria.

Eric Trump has said he is "sure" his sister Ivanka used her influence over their father to encourage the US president to launch military action against Bashar al-Assad in Syria. Watchout, North Korea, for Ivanka, the real President behind the President.

Second,

I've been floating the President Ivanka idea for a while. It might be true. I doubt it was an emotional outburst. It seems to be a stealth deal worked out with Russia.

Nothing is a pretty good strategy for Syria. That was, terrorists will have to work with Russia to get anywhere, and Russia will refer them to Assad, who will say the usual, "lay downyour arms and join the political process."

I think Russia probably should be there, to scare the Turks out of getting militarily involved. Well balanced wars can go on forever. I could see that happen with Turkey, Syria Iraq, Saudia Arabia and Israel, with some outside interference from Lebanon and Iran as a regional war that never ends. Russia is an 800 pound gorilla in this situation.

It's not true there are no moderates, that's a narrative originating in Russia. If I were to pick one, I'd side with the SDF, former commies that they are. Because people are people and these ones sound rational to me, not because they're pro-US, though they are. But it's not my fight, and I wouldn't intervene. I might back them and other rational groups if they ended up on the defensive, but not to go on the offensive against ISIS. It's telling that no moderates want to go to war with Assad, which says to me the same thing that his local poll numbers say, which is that even those who don't love him locally aren't not hating him as viscerally as America is, or as they are viscerally hating ISIS. Instead, they'd rather run for office in an election against Assad and his Ba'athist party.

Things are clearly degenerating for the FSA, which was the last US openly backed contingent. It seems to be corruption. I think the FSA needs to scale back and join the political process. The worse problem for FSA than the corruption, and the chance they might sell whatever we gave them to ISIS, is defection. FSA fighters serial desertion where they join other groups like ISIS or Al Nusra, and take with them arms that were bought for them by the US or other foreign powers. That's an obvious nightmare for us, because if we do get involved in Syria, militarily, even without going up against Assad, we run the risk of being shot at with our own weapons. We first have to make sure we're not arming the enemy indirectly.

It's nice to discuss this in a nice neutral way for a change without hitting each other over the head or having to dance around false narratives.

Not "nice neutral way" for long. I'd say let China handle Syria because Trump has run out of ideas, other than more of the same cruise missiles:

Chinese President Xi Jinping told Trump in a telephone call on Wednesday that “any use of chemical weapons is unacceptable” and urged a political solution for Syria, Chinese state broadcaster CCTV said of the telephone exchange.

"(We) must persevere with moving towards a political solution for the Syria issue. It is very important that the United Nations Security Council maintains unity on the Syria issue. (I) hope the Security Council can speak with a single voice," CCTV cited Xi as saying.

Yeah, sure, great for you guys. The people running the FFF coliseum snack shop are getting worried it's going to be a trend.

Yeah, sometimes Dreamtroll totally loses it and starts yammering about M52Nickerson, that probably helps popcorn sales.
