I do believe that G is correct and anything in question was not classified information.

That being said, "leaked" and "gave" in this situation are exactly the same thing. Don't be cute.

I love the tone of the testimony, it's pretty clear Comey thought Trump was a royal scumbag after about ten minutes with the guy.

I keep wondering if Trump asks himself every day "What ethically murky, technically legal thing can I get up to today?"

And what's up with yer spelling up there on the headline? Testiufies? Did you have someone hold yer beer while you typed that?

America loves a winner!

Nothing is illegal if it's done for " The Resistance ".

Or if you're just a Democrat, in general.

Actually saw my first ' RESIST ' bumper sticker today. Some white gal driving what looked to be a high end luxury Acura.

Apparently didn't check her white privilege yet.

So I guess Trump "leaking" that Obama wiretapped him at Trump Tower is not a chargeable offense.

Let's look at the definition of leak: "unauthorized (especially deliberate) disclosure of confidential information"

Was what Comey delivered confidential? In other words, was it classified?
If the answer is yes, then Comey violated the law. But wait, didn't he check with the Special Counsel before his testimony? If anyone would know if it was illegal, it would be him.

Funny how all of the non-classified information "given" out on a daily basis by the FBI was everything except for the fact that Trump was never under FBI investigation?

Comey proved on many occasions in his testimony what a coward he is.

Also, what came out in Comey's testimony was that the memo that he wrote was NOT a word-for-word version of the conversation, but one that had certain classified details edited out. And what else, I wonder?

Yanno, Comey himself is not a sterling example of ethical fortitude. When Loretta Lynch called on him to call the Hillary investigation a "matter" instead of an investigation, he caved.

When the NYT printed rumors about Trump that Comey KNEW to be untrue ... at least one article claiming to cite classified information ... Comey neither contradicted the article nor investigated the supposed leaker.

When Diane Feinstein asked Comey (in essence) why didn't you bring your concerns up at the time ... about two separate conversations ... Comey himself said "Well, it (ph) was kind of a slightly cowardly way of trying to avoid telling him [Trump]" and "Maybe if I were stronger, I would have."

I have a link to the full transcript and my analysis of it so far over here http://www.fireflyfans.net/mthread.aspx?bid=18&tid=61678&p=5

I'm not impressed with Comey. He seems to be a waffler.

Leak or not, at the end what we have here then is the fact that tons of information was given away that allowed the Rachel Maddows of the world to say for months that Trump was under investigation for ties with Russia when it was never true.

If this was all on the up and up, why were all of the sources "anonymous"... especially Comey the Coward?

There was collusion and a coordinated smear campaign against Trump, and the MSM and the Democrats still butt hurt about Hillary losing were more than happy to be a part of it and buy into it.

You need to ask yourself if this is the way that you want to see the relationship between the Government and the MSM to operate from this day forward. Remember that the next time it might be a guy or gal sitting in that chair that you actually like.

"Comey just yesterday said he could not talk about the validity of the Dossier in an open setting

Just because Trump lies doesn't mean that Comey is telling the truth. Or that the (ex) CEO of T(w)itter is either. That's naive, to trust that they have your interests at heart.

George Washington University’s Jonathan Turley does a good job in The Hill* outlining much of the relevant law. One major issue is whether these documents belonged to Comey, in the sense of being his property rather than the government’s. That is the position he took in his testimony. Like Turley, I think the former director is wrong.

n-the-damaging-case-against-james-comey

As a longtime prosecutor, I have a black-and-white test for this sort of thing: Would a judge in a criminal trial consider the documents to be government property for purposes of federal discovery law? That law requires the government to disclose to the defense any prior statement made by a witness, written or otherwise recorded, that is in the government’s possession. It also mandates that the government disclose any information that is material to the preparation of the defense (such as evidentiary exhibits that the prosecution plans to introduce into evidence). Finally, the government must produce any exculpatory evidence — meaning, any evidence that (a) suggests the accused is not guilty, (b) contradicts the prosecution’s theory of the case, or (c) could be used to impeach a witness’s testimony. Comey’s notes may fall into all three of those disclosure categories.

... what would happen if a prosecutor in the case argued to the presiding judge that the government did not need to disclose Comey’s notes because they are his personal property and not in the government’s possession? Rest assured, the judge would blow a gasket, and rightly so.

The memos were written by an FBI official, apparently on FBI equipment, and related directly to FBI investigative business. Indeed, the fact that investigative business was central to Trump’s conversations with the former director is what induced Comey to write the memos: He perceived the president’s statements as political intrusion into law-enforcement investigations and intelligence probes. The memos were thus government property, and the then-director was obliged to make sure they were retained in government files.

That does not mean it would have been improper for Comey to keep a copy of them for himself. But doing that would not change the character of the memos as government property, and it would not relieve Comey of the obligation to comply with all government disclosure restrictions on the contents of the memos.

At the Federalist, Bre Payton reproduces a copy of the standard FBI employment agreement*, making a persuasive argument that Comey’s memos are government property and that the former director’s disclosure of information in them to unauthorized persons violated the employment agreement’s terms. Nor would the memos’ status as government documents turn on whether or not the documents were physically placed in the government’s files. Nor would their storage outside the government’s filing system relieve the government of any disclosure obligations in a criminal case; a court would simply rule that the government constructively possessed the documents through Comey, who was its agent when he made and retained them. The government would be responsible for securing them and complying with its disclosure obligations.

But, given the extremely lax standard Hillary was held to, I'm not surprised that Comey would apply the same attitude toward himself. Rules are meant to be broken, as long as you can rationalize your actions to yourself as meeting some other criteria you hold more dear.

If he DOES release tapes, then his critics will claim he's withholding the worst parts.
I invite you to 'reply with quote' to memorialize them.

We'll see how it goes.

I think the grade school bully thing was because of how juvenile everything you say sounds Wishy.

You are a sad, aging woman nearing menopause who is miserable with her life and her choices and needs to constantly bitch and complain about everything to anybody who will listen to you. You're even aware of the fact that nobody is listening to you anymore here about it, but continue to post because.... reasons.

Feel free to exercise your demons all you want to on me. Your like a gnat.

That's the key isn't it? Never under investigation, and Comey was never supposed to release that bit of information. Ok, he's the fucking president, he has a right to know. So, he tells him. You would think that would be enough for the dumb motherfucker, but noooooooooo, he wants a public spectacle.

Only thing is that stupid fucking Comey already screwed the pooch with the reveal of
Hillary's "undisclosed" emails that proved to be nothing, so he fucked himself, his credibility. So now he has to maintain that everything is still open until the investigation is complete.

Now try to follow this, if you can. I'll go slow, so as not to distract you guys.

The president, Trump that is.....got it. Okay, he's innocent, right! So a normal thinking person says, I did nothing wrong, so maybe I let them continue the investigation.......they find nothing........and prove my innocence.

CASE CLOSED! We can move on with the business of running the country into the ground. Right! Nothing to see here, I'm innocent!

Doesn't that make sense!

Okay........slow enough for ya!

The FBI does their job and proves the Great and Powerful Drumpf is nothing but a SAINT! End of story!

So, my question is this.....Why the FUCK stop Comey and the FBI from proving that Trump is innocent?

I await your brilliant answer.

Great logic there Kiki....only one small problem, he's got no credibility!

THERE ARE NO TAPES, HE'S BLUFFING AS USUAL!

Just like the birth certificate, just like the "wiretapping" - they don't exist, except in the mind (that's a stretch) of Trump.

FUUUUCKkkk are you guys gullible!

Basically, his critics will discredit him, no matter what.

The problem SGG is that there was already a public spectacle. The MSM has been attacking Trump since November 9th, and they have been running articles saying that Trump was under FBI investigation for ties with Russia for months now.

You're referring to the "Duty to Correct", that he certainly didn't want to go through again. That is understandable. The thing is... he could have come out and told the American People that there is currently no FBI investigation into Trump at this time. It would have been easy enough to just add those three words at the end, and if there was to be an investigation on Trump in the future he would have no duty to correct.

I'm going to assume you're talking to 1kiki and Sigs that way, and that wasn't directed at me. I think that I've been cordial enough with you after we had our little white flag session a while back that this is unnecessary.

For how long should he wait? The next 3 1/2 years until he loses the next election because the American People believe he is under a lengthy FBI investigation that the MSM is saying he's guilty of?

Obama and GWB did a fine job of that for the better part of two decades. I don't see any proof yet that Trump is doing any worse than either of them did.

EVERYTHING. He doesn't pay his bills. I thought conservatives don't like people that don't pay their bills? Or is it just brown people that don't pay their bills...

And don't be such a huge goddamn hypocrite. We all know EVERY Pres. gets torn apart no matter what they do and that's a great thing. We have the right to question them and I hope it makes them think hard about EVERY little thing they do. Expecting no one to question results in fascism.

BTW, I'd LOVE to have me some menopause, you moron. My grandmother was still popping them out in her 40's so I probably have another decade to go. Unlike your teeth.... And you call me a redneck *snort*

No they aren't. Fox and Trump and Trump's lawyers are using "leaked" to imply an illegal act (and Trump supporters are no doubt falling for it, see JSF).
Reality Winner leaked documents. Leaking implies making public classified or restricted information that is not suppose to be made public. These were his notes to do with as he pleased, including giving them to someone, anyone.

Incorrect. FBI regulations identify "notes" of any FBI employee (including the Director) as property of the FBI. Comey did not have authorization to release this FBI property resulting from meetings occurring while in official capacity for the FBI.

Not because I supported him (my vote went to **NOT HILLARY**) but because the dems are cowardly fucking liars and assholes who wouldn't know the meaning of the words EVIDENCE, HONOR, and INTEGRITY if they spent the next 100 years studying them.

Heh. Good post. I've been busy and didn't get to it until now.

I notice many posts in this thread seem to suggest shock that a lifelong Democrat such as Trump would resort to lying, or has predilections towards nonstop lying. Just because he has now been lying about becoming a Republican for almost a year now, doesn't mean he (or any other Democrat) could self-abort his falsehoods - or his tweets.
