I know three, one paralyzed from the waist down for the last 53 years, one with traumatic brain injuries and in a nursing home for 25 years, and one with a knee replacement from 40 years ago. Never mind the half dozen with various road rash injuries... Just curious... I think two wheel bikes should be gradually phased out, and maybe not covered by insurance anymore. Seems like all they are good for is churning meat... Sad, how much they have affected people's lives.

No choice of transportation, no choice of free commerce for insurance companies or people wanting to purchase their policies. Dictating that others must consume 5 times as much fuel. At least you are being consistent.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

A cousin of some type (it's hard to tell in old-world families) lost part of her brain, the use of her left arm, and her right leg below the knee. Her boyfriend, who was driving, was killed. The accident happened at night, as they were passing a semi and the semi pulled left. She tumbled and slid at high velocity which somewhat ripped her left arm off; a road sign put up with angle iron posts took her lower right leg off.

If you want to pass - and there's nothing intrinsically reckless about passing - you need to be in the lane to the left. And semis don't always have good vision along the side of the rig. And it was at night. I chalk it up to wrong place/ wrong time. Nobody was doing anything they hadn't done multiple times before. A few seconds in either direction and everyone would have been safe. Now the guy I saw cruising down the freeway standing straight up, and I do mean STRAIGHT UP, on his pegs ... wtf was that about? Maybe somebody can tell me. Anyway, what I personally find dangerous about motorcycles, and mostly motorcycles at high speeds, is that if something goes wrong, you've got no protection. It's just you hitting the road.

Had a mild lay down in town once, only skinned a knee. Bartender at a restaurant I worked at died though. He use to like to race home from work on our main street, bit of a daredevil. Didn't have a helmet, crashed into a parked car. People who visited him in the hospital before he died... their description of how big his head had swelled, "twice normal size"... can't imagine anyone ever not wearing a helmet or seat belt. Dumbfux.
