Broward County Likely ‘Inspiration’ for Obama School Discipline Policy to Report Fewer Arrests, Suspensions

“Broward County was the first to have the goal of lowering suspensions, lowering expulsions, lowering arrests,” explains Eden. “And, so, they decided to reduce police involvement by not bringing in cops to arrest kids for a whole range of serious offenses, and then, as you would expect, the arrests go down when you stop arresting. That was taken to be a sign of success, based on that metric alone.”

The reports I heard were that the school admin and the Community Activist Sheriff had a no-arrest agreement.

Israel armed teachers in schools in 1974. Since then only two school shooters. Both were promptly killed by teachers. Clearly arming teachers doesn't work.

Maybe you are confused. Teachers who are untrainable should not be forced to become competent. Only Israeli school teachers are smarter than the rest of the world, and are trainable.

I don't think anybody in their right mind thinks that looking to Israel for how a functioning society works is a good idea.

I think as time goes on we're going to see me agree less and less with the Republicans on this board again. I'm not liking the issues that have been gaining prominence lately and how the Republicans are reacting to them.

It goes without saying that I am not in the Democrat's corner concerning these issues either.

I'm afraid we're at the point that we need to start having discussions about why there is nobody in politics today that is in the middle anymore.

Thanks for reminding Jack of that G. Because we both appear to have a much bigger problem with the republicans at this point, it is conveniently forgotten by some here the many times you I and others, have expressed our dismay about the democratic party. Problems with their identity politics. Their cries of racism and bigotry against anyone who believes the people should determine policy for immigration, not just a few in political office.

Our hating Hillary as the democratic nominee. Pay to play politics practiced by both parties. The way both parties have worked to give disproportionate influence to corporate and the rich. The list of reasons to dislike both parties is long. However, while the democratic dislike list is long, the republican list at this point in time is endless.

"Our hating Hillary as the democratic nominee."

Yeah - and thank you for reminding me of that. A few people accused me of never saying anything against Hillary, or doing everything to protect her when the opposite was true. I collected some of my quotes to enlighten them:

http://www.fireflyfans.net/mthread.aspx?bid=18&tid=60433&p=7

“But anyway... Hillary's worst attribute is she's a really bad politician. Even terrible imho. Listening to her speak and try and sound presidential is painful. I can't listen, it's too forced, too fake, and I think that also reveals itself in her actions and policies. She is definitely not a sophisticated thinker and has very little charm or charisma, which could have serious consequences internationally.”

“I totally agree, she's smiling slime.”

http://www.fireflyfans.net/mthread.aspx?bid=18&tid=60433&p=6

“Except I hate Hillary.”

http://www.fireflyfans.net/mthread.aspx?bid=18&tid=60433&p=2

“As I said previously to you (you should read some of these posts, they're quite good) I could give a rat's behind about her.”

“Hillary is many things but less of a wild card than Trump. He's been complaining about the Iran deal. "We should have them coming to us on their knees..." He's more dangerous than Putin. But whatever and whomever - it's like choosing how you want to take a beating.”

http://www.fireflyfans.net/mthread.aspx?bid=18&tid=60433&p=1
“I could give a sh*t about her and certainly have no interest in defending any professional politician.”

Good catch.
Teacher Jesse Randall Davidson in Dalton GA has been on several different medicines for depression, and has previously confessed to killing people.
This guy needs to be invited to anti-gun rallies, to trim off the delusionally stupid from the conversation.

Technically, not every mass killing spree. The Muslim acts I don't recall being on meds. With the psychotropic problem being so prevalent and spiralling, the non-medicated killings are able to get lost among them.

Of all the 10's of MILLLIONS of responsible gun owners in this country, you want to gloss over the fact that every single one of the mass shooters was clinically depressed, going back to 16 year old Brenda Ann Spencer, in 1979.

Big Pharma, not the NRA , is the culprit here.

No I don't. I said from the very beginning that there are a number of factors that contribute to these tragedies, NOT just one thing. Mental illness, or the basic mental unfitness to handle weapons of any kind, is certainly one factor, and GUNS are another. I don't want you to loose sight of that. This isn't an either/or situation.

Mental illness, anti depressant meds, and oh yeah, RED FLAG WARNINGS AFTER RED FLAG WARNINGS which the law enforcement agencies ( FBI, Broward Sherriff's Dept ) ignored, possibly criminally so.

We didn't outlaw airplanes after 9-11. We didn't put pressure cookers under lock and key after Boston.

Guess you haven't flown... ever. Heard of the TSA? New restrictions for carry on? Dogs at the airport? New baggage xray? Ring any bells? Yes, we did a lot after 9/11, same as we should have years, decades ago with guns, but NRA MONEY and chicken sh*t politicians.

Pressure cookers? Really? Do you want me to list the numbers of deaths from guns v. pressure cookers?
That has to be the most brain dead argument I've heard for *defending* the 2nd amendment - congrats.

How long before Albert Wong in Yountville is added to the list of psychotropic drug victims? Will they be able to cover it up forever?

My brother has 3 nephews and a niece on my sis-in-law's side. Both parents work full time, and the dad works overtime. All 3 of the boys are put on some sort of pills to chill them out, and the youngest one has been on them since he was 7 years old. They aren't bad kids at all. They're normal growing boys. The parents and school system just can't be bothered to deal with them.

I do hope that in lieu of good parenting and a decent school system that making your children guinea pigs for Big Pharma works out for them.

I refuse to even meet these people on the off chance that this topic ever comes up in front of me. Even stone sober I know that I'd say something that would jeopardize my relationship with my brother and I'm not willing to do that.

It's not "just an object." It's not "just like" the other things. You're drinking NRA koolaid if you think so. For example: If you're going to commit murder, which one would you use? If you're going to commit suicide, which one are you going to use? And if you want to tell me that you have a way to make mankind not want to do either of those I got more bad news for you and it's about your own mental health.

Plenty of people do both without guns. Even in the US.

Suicide by gun is actually a very stupid thing to do. That's what my Uncle did. My aunt found him much later because she heard noises from the garage and thought it was an animal in pain. He lived half a day longer in the hospital before he passed.

If you're going to do suicide by gun, a shotgun is the only real surefire way, and as far as I know, there's not a single proposed legislature out there that is even bringing up the idea of outlawing shotguns.

When you kill targets in a video game you don't use a gun when collateral damage might include something critical. If max collateral was the goal, the instrument of choice would be a mine, bomb, or grenade.
These victims of Psychotropic drugs use axes, knives, machetes, rope to kill or injure others.

I have the perfect solution:

Why doesn't the NRA pay retired Vets of Foreign Wars to arm themselves and protect the kids of their neighborhoods? The NRA should put it's money where it's mouth is. They should put out an ad asking for volunteers.

They sell more guns, they employ out of work people, and they put the skills of these vets to work. It's a win, win, win situation.

This is 100% fabricated, asterturfed " outrage ", that's being parlayed into a vocal voting block. Nothing more. If they really want to be upset at someone, why not the kid who they bullied, Nikolas Cruz ? Or the Broward County Sheriff Dept, who responded to 39 calls for domestic violence ? Or the FBI, who absolutely knew about the danger this kid displayed - having been EXPELLED from that very school for VIOLENCE ... or even the drug companies, who doped him and every other degenerate mass shooter.

The only way to stop the problem is to hold the Doctors responsible and accountable for prescribing the drugs. The Drug Companies have piles of money set aside for payoffs, and they still rake in too much to stop. But when ambivalent uncaring reckless Doctors start going to prison, that is when this nonsense will stop.

See the thread in News Headline about creating these Reavers.

I think that's a great idea. This new school security would be armed with guns that local cops have confiscated. I'm sure the NRA would understand that it just looks bad if they profit from mass slaughter.

Of course, when this deterrent works it will just send these crazies to churches, sporting events, and malls where the security is easier to breech, but we'll solve that with more guns, surely.

" Always "? That's a silly claim to make. THESE kids, the portion of them which the media shows, while ignoring the others who are just fine w/ the NRA, actually have no reason TO be upset.

I will not be lectured to by 15-17 yr olds who think they know how to run everything, and want to accuse everyone else in the world for their problems except the very ones who caused them.

And F every single adult who cheers on this madness.

15-17? Try working with a 20 year old these days, Rap. Still shitting yellow and afraid of their own damn shadow. What are we doing to these kids?

EDITED TO ADD: Jesus... I even get the problem from T's post while quoting you because you quoted him and didn't fix it yourself.

FIX YOUR DAMN SETUP T.

I recently heard it pointed out that the only truly spontaneous protests in this century was the Tea Party movement.

After that impact was seen, Democrap agitators created a template for Activist goons which would simulate or imitate the Tea Party.
Hint: Tea Party events never had Voter Registration For Democraps Drives.

I heard the school truancy gathering in Washington had the most EVER marchers, at 800,000.
Does this mean the Million Marchers was a lie? Or does Libtard Maths define One Million as less than 0.8 Million?

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

I'm curious - does anyone here believe Sandy Hook and/ or Marjory Stoneman were false flag attacks/ fake news with crisis actors?

I'm just trying to get a read on what people think are the facts.

So anyway ... anyone up for a rational, fact-based, and civil discussion about the topic?

Do you feel that Sandy Hook being an Elementary School while MSD was a High School affect your question?
Or the fact that they haven't released the name of the psychiatric drug responsible for MSD yet, while Fanapt was the cause of Sandy Hook?

I did recall the Sandy Hook community was supposedly Liberal, but did they also have an Activist Community Agitator Sheriff like Lakewood, who refused to allow the children to be saved?

I think that's a great idea. This new school security would be armed with guns that local cops have confiscated. I'm sure the NRA would understand that it just looks bad if they profit from mass slaughter.

Precisely. They do profit from mass slaughter, but they don't have the balls to put their money where their mouth is. You put guns in the hands of teachers and you will see more of the same, it just doesn't make sense.

My suggestion was half tongue-in-cheek but it makes more sense to employ vets who have served their country with distinction.

Quote:

Of course, when this deterrent works it will just send these crazies to churches, sporting events, and malls where the security is easier to breech, but we'll solve that with more guns, surely.

Again, precisely. You see right through my little witticisms. According to the Washington Post, most gun owners don't belong to the NRA - and they don't agree with it either. It's assumed "that the NRA represents the voice of American gun owners." Only a small fraction of the nation's gun owners are NRA members. That number has been put at 5 million who pay dues, if that number is right, that means that somewhere between 6-7% of American gun owners. Then that means that over 90%
do not belong to the NRA.

I will post the article below.........

http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2015/10/15/most-gun-owners-
dont-belong-to-the-nra-and-they-dont-agree-with-it-either/?utm_term=.8e3fdb59ef04

There are anywhere from 200 to 300 hundred million guns in this country. Confiscating that amount is much like Trump building that Wall, a myth, so I wouldn't worry about a few gun control measures to keep kids safe.

Of course, you need common sense to come to that conclusion.

They sell more guns, they employ out of work people, and they put the skills of these vets to work. It's a win, win, win situation.

Your ignorance and delusions know no bounds.
Just because you have no clue about guns does not mean that professional Law Enforcement Officers, Coroners, Medical Examiners, and Crime Scene Technicians have been mistaking actual GUNS for the MACHETES, AXES, KNIFES, ROPES, SWORDS and Human Teeth used to commit the acts if these psychotropic drug-agitated Reavers.

To put a stop to your delusions that GUNS should never be regulated because of very recent and weird misinterpretations of the Second Amendment, John Paul Stevens, retired associate justice of the United States Supreme Court, recommended that the amendment be repealed. He wrote:

During the years when Warren Burger was our chief justice, from 1969 to 1986, no judge, federal or state, as far as I am aware, expressed any doubt as to the limited coverage of the Second Amendment. When organizations like the National Rifle Association disagreed with that position and began their campaign claiming that federal regulation of firearms curtailed Second Amendment rights, Chief Justice Burger publicly characterized the N.R.A. as perpetrating “one of the greatest pieces of fraud, I repeat the word fraud, on the American public by special interest groups that I have ever seen in my lifetime.”

For over 200 years after the adoption of the Second Amendment, it was uniformly understood as not placing any limit on either federal or state authority to enact gun control legislation. Example: in 1939 the Supreme Court unanimously held that Congress could prohibit the possession of a sawed-off shotgun because that weapon had no reasonable relation to the preservation or efficiency of a “well regulated militia.”

Concern that a national standing army might pose a threat to the security of the separate states led to the adoption of that amendment, which provides that “a well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” Today that concern is a relic of the 18th century.

In 2008, the Supreme Court overturned Chief Justice Burger’s and others’ long-settled understanding of the Second Amendment’s limited reach by ruling, in District of Columbia v. Heller, that there was an individual right to bear arms. I was among the four dissenters. [If anyone asks, the five judges that voted for the decision were lunatic Republicans, as is JewelStaiteFan.] www.law.cornell.edu/supct/html/07-290.ZD.html and www.law.cornell.edu/supct/html/07-290.ZD1.html

That decision — which I remain convinced was wrong and certainly was debatable — has provided the N.R.A. with a propaganda weapon of immense power. Overturning that decision via a constitutional amendment to get rid of the Second Amendment would be simple and would do more to weaken the N.R.A.’s ability to stymie legislative debate and block constructive gun control legislation than any other available option.

It would eliminate the only legal rule that protects sellers of firearms in the United States — unlike every other market in the world.

Cornell Law School does not concur with your decision on guns: www.law.cornell.edu/supct/html/07-290.ZD.html and www.law.cornell.edu/supct/html/07-290.ZD1.html
Quote:

Justice Breyer, with whom Justice Stevens, Justice Souter, and Justice Ginsburg join, dissenting.

We must decide whether a District of Columbia law that prohibits the possession of handguns in the home violates the Second Amendment . The majority, relying upon its view that the Second Amendment seeks to protect a right of personal self-defense, holds that this law violates that Amendment. In my view, it does not.

The majority’s conclusion is wrong for two independent reasons. The first reason is that set forth by Justice Stevens—namely, that the Second Amendment protects militia-related, not self-defense-related, interests. These two interests are sometimes intertwined. To assure 18th-century citizens that they could keep arms for militia purposes would necessarily have allowed them to keep arms that they could have used for self-defense as well. But self-defense alone, detached from any militia-related objective, is not the Amendment’s concern.

The second independent reason is that the protection the Amendment provides is not absolute. The Amendment permits government to regulate the interests that it serves. Thus, irrespective of what those interests are—whether they do or do not include an independent interest in self-defense—the majority’s view cannot be correct unless it can show that the District’s regulation is unreasonable or inappropriate in Second Amendment terms. This the majority cannot do.

I read Justice Antonin Scalia's weirdo interpretation of the Second Amendment. www.law.cornell.edu/supct/html/07-290.ZO.html I am absolutely not surprised that the fat greedy glutton choked to death on a chicken bone caught in his throat. A typical example of Scalia going on and on, dragging out his dictionary to pump more hot air into his empty balloon of opinion, but without one ounce of common sense:
Quote:

Before addressing the verbs “keep” and “bear,” we interpret their object: “Arms.” The 18th-century meaning is no different from the meaning today. The 1773 edition of Samuel Johnson’s dictionary defined “arms” as “weapons of offence, or armour of defence.” 1 Dictionary of the English Language 107 (4th ed.) (hereinafter Johnson). Timothy Cunningham’s important 1771 legal dictionary defined “arms” as “any thing that a man wears for his defence, or takes into his hands, or useth in wrath to cast at or strike another.” 1 A New and Complete Law Dictionary (1771); see also N. Webster, American Dictionary of the English Language (1828) (reprinted 1989) (hereinafter Webster) (similar).

The term was applied, then as now, to weapons that were not specifically designed for military use and were not employed in a military capacity. For instance, Cunningham’s legal dictionary gave as an example of usage: “Servants and labourers shall use bows and arrows on Sundays, &c. and not bear other arms.” See also, e.g., An Act for the trial of Negroes, 1797 Del. Laws ch. XLIII, §6, p. 104, in 1 First Laws of the State of Delaware 102, 104 (J. Cushing ed. 1981 (pt. 1)); see generally State v. Duke, 42Tex. 455, 458 (1874) (citing decisions of state courts construing “arms”). Although one founding-era thesaurus limited “arms” (as opposed to “weapons”) to “instruments of offence generally made use of in war,” even that source stated that all firearms constituted “arms.” 1 J. Trusler, The Distinction Between Words Esteemed Synonymous in the English Language37 (1794) (emphasis added).

Scalia was making an argument that no weapon can be regulated. Any weapon is an "arm" and no arms can be regulated per his interpretation of the Second Amendment. After building his argument, he uses it only for handguns, but the argument does not have any limitation to exclusively guns. Scalia got completely carried away with the beauty of his ideas about the 2nd Amendment and the result was that many people have died, just as Scalia got carried away by the deliciousness of crispy fried chicken, but then he swallowed the chicken bone and choked to death. He was found dead in front of the refrigerator, with the door open, at a hunting lodge in West Texas. Fried chicken was everywhere.

Guns are responsible for the largest share of U.S. homicides in over 80 years, federal mortality data shows
https://goo.gl/Z4yRVU

The much-discussed spike in homicide rates between 2014 and 2016 is due almost entirely to gun homicides, an analysis of federal homicide data reveals.

The spike was so drastic that in 2016, gun homicides accounted for a greater share of all homicides than at any point in the federal record, which contains more than 80 years of complete data for the United States.

The numbers underscore how the violent-crime problem is, now more than ever, a gun-violence problem. After years of record sales, firearms are more prevalent in society than at any time in recent history. The high number of civilian guns in circulation means more opportunities for guns to be diverted into the hands of people at risk of harming others with them.

To arrive at the numbers above, more than 100 years of federal homicide statistics were compiled, stretching back to the year 1910.

Radio show host Alex Jones arrives at the Travis County Courthouse in Austin on Monday. Parents of two children slain at Sandy Hook Elementary have filed suit against him, seeking $1 million in damages from defamation.

Three parents whose children were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary in 2012 filed a defamation lawsuit Tuesday against Alex Jones, the right-wing conspiracy theorist who has long claimed the shooting was “completely fake” and a “giant hoax” perpetrated by opponents of the Second Amendment.

Jones, the popular radio show host who also operates the conspiracy theory website Infowars, has questioned for years whether 20 children and six adults died in the school massacre in Newtown, Conn. To bolster his false claims, he often cites news reports and video clips from the hours after the shooting that turned out to be incomplete or based on wrong information.

Soon after they buried their children, many Sandy Hook parents started to come under fierce attack by conspiracy theorists who have said they are actors in an elaborate scheme to enact stricter gun control laws. The fringe theories still thrive in small forums online but have reached a far greater audience through Jones, the most vocal propagator.

I doubt many kids were skipping school man. I'm guessing you don't have any kids of your own? That shit is expensive these days.

Even by the time I was still in high school, my school started giving parents actual law enforced "truancy tickets" if their kid didn't show up to school and the parents didn't call in ahead stating they were sick (and if there were going to be more than two straight days absent a doctor's note was necessary to avoid this ticket).

I'm too lazy too look up info on it now, but when I was in high school, my art teacher printed up some info about this for us that I remember to this day. It showed how the money that a school gets from the federal government was tied directly to how many students went there and to their daily attendance. If a student were to miss a day, even for legitimate absences, the school got that much less money. This started somewhere in the mid to late 90's, and I can only imagine that it's gotten even more expensive to the school districts in 2018 when kids play hookie.

Between in-school lunches ensuring kids stay on campus all day, truancy tickets, metal detectors and armed guards, the American Public School system is looking more and more like prison every year.

Do Right, Be Right. :)
