Didn't Sony try to pull this a few years ago and it backfired hard on them? Here's an idea. Do all the diversity hires you want and resist the temptation to virtue signal and announce that you did them. Then when you put out an amazing Star Wars movie that saves the franchise, you can tell us all about the story of the movie that was co-directed by a black woman and maybe even written by some black kid who grew up in a really rough neighborhood and the only thing that saved him from the gangs and violence was his and his friends love of Star Wars. Celebrating diversity hires this far up front is not something to strive for with a series that is losing ticket sales with every new movie that comes out and is already getting backlash for putting this agenda at a higher priority than telling a good story. Make a great story, then after everybody's gone to see it feel free to tell us about how diverse the cast was behind the cameras. Don't try to guilt people to go see your movie. It doesn't work. Do Right, Be Right. :)

The Hire is the goal, without regard to any disastrous results which follow. True. But hey... maybe it actually works out? I dunno. I'd rather save that bomb and drop it after an amazing movie came out and knocked everybody on their ass. As it stands now, most of the time this ends up backfiring and just fosters resentment. It absolutely killed Ghostbusters (2016) and destroyed "Ghost Corps" and the idea they were going to launch a Ghostbusters Cinematic Universe. To anybody paying any attention, this publicity stunt has become Trope in 2018. It's a pathetic attempt to try to bully people who suffer from guilt complexes to go pay money to see something they really don't have any interest in watching. This tactic doesn't work. Solo already sounds like it's going to be a disaster. Episode 9 better be something really special.

Are you saying it is?I've got nothing against Ron Howard. I'm sure I've seen a bunch of his stuff over the years. I loved Arrested Development, although I don't know exactly what his role was other than narrator and one of the producers. I'm hoping they don't turn him into Han Solo Bluth. I'm sure that the movie is going to be more of the same. Just the fact that it absolutely had to star a white male is reason enough to do it. I've heard stories about how two of the main actors casted were sent back to acting school and they had to get Ron Howard to come in and finish the job because of a bunch of drama. If it's not an SJW operation, it sounds like it might have been sabotaged by one. Do Right, Be Right. :)

I thought it was an SJW identity politics snow job? How is it "having to star a White Male" in line with that? Wouldn't they have made room for a colored Solo?

Quote:Originally posted by JEWELSTAITEFAN: I had only heard that the original 2 Directors had endeavored to create a comedy, slapstick incarnation of a Star Wars story, and that Ron Howard had been brought in to return sense to the production. It reminded me of the horrific idea that Jim Carrey wanted to do the same injustice to The Six Million Dollar Man, and I was grateful the disaster was never completed, although it tied up the rights for a very long time. Ron Howard has helmed Apollo 13, Splash, Night Shift, Cocoon, Backdraft, Ransom, the 3 DaVinci Codes, and I welcome his entry into a galaxy far, far away. He has proven capable of handling the magnitude and Majesty where so many lessers have proven they cannot. Just because most of those have included Tom Hanks does not detract from Howard's ability.
